Me and Marino
« on: February 20, 2007, 08:54:58 PM »

Well I took a look in the mirror, why do we have those damned things in the bathrooms anyway, well anyway I did and it was not a pretty sight.

Not that it had been for some time but I guess you get to a saturation (saturated fat) point and something has to go.

I have a few motivations in addition to living longer, feeling better, looking better getting around better etc.

d00d was one that got me thinking about my stinkin' hip and knowing that extra poundage does it no good.  Anyway I bit the bullet and signed up for Nutri-system in mid January.

I saw Coach Shula at Superbowl and commented on how great he looked.  Crap, little did I know at the time he was on NS too.

Well, whether anyone out there is thinking of dropping a few, I would recommend NS.  I have dropped about 20 lbs. to date and continue to lose.  I haven't started much in the way of additional exercise, I set a personal goal of sitting on what's left of my fat ass until I get down to 220.  Most likely in the next week or so.  Then I will start a regimen of exercise to work toward my trip to New Zealand in May.

I hope someone takes this as the encouragement needed to start a program you have been thinking of (or not) and it works for you too.

What's the sodium content of the meals Roger ?   Also, what's the plan cost per week (meals included ) ? Looks like it's worked for you. I was actually contemplating Jenny Craig or something like that. With my arthritis acting up, my exercise level is down and I gotta do something or you guys are gonna be holdin a old fashion Welsh wake for me.

Thanks guys, a group buy would be great.

B B, I looked at a number of the lunch and dinner entrees and it appears they are all over, but 400mg to 700mg on avg.  Looks like they use 2400mg as the daily total max.

I know they have a over 60 plan and under so the calories may be different, I did the standard plan and it is 1500 calories a day.  You supplement the provided entrees with salads and vegetables as well as fruit and dairy portions.

I don't feel hungry between meals and when I have a craving I usually drink water.  64 oz a day is the recommended amount.

Cost is roughly $260.00 a 28 day plan.  Order on line the first time you get an extra 7 days of food.  You can take the standard package and customize it on line after your first month so you don't need to repeat food you didn't care for.  I'll eat about anything and find the meals acceptable.

I did this with Nutri System back in the late 80's and lost well then too.  A friend of my wife lost 45 pounds, I figured if she can do it so can I.

www.nutrisystem.com/faq Check out the frequently asked questions.

Here's an excerpt: Does the NutriSystem meal plan meet USDA standards for a healthy diet? Most recently, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) released its sixth set of recommendations on eating–the Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2005. The upshot is that there's good news for everyone participating in the NutriSystem program—your meal plan meets, and in many cases, exceeds the government standards for healthy eating.

Further, the NutriSystem meal plans:

Contain less than the recommended limit of sodium intake
Feature less than 5% of their calories from trans and saturated fats, which is less than half the maximum allowed in the guidelines
Have always stressed choosing lean, low-fat and non-fat meats like the guidelines recommend
Include the ability to get half your servings of carbohydrates in the form of whole grains and the other half from enriched or whole-wheat sources, as suggested
Recommend at least 4 ½ cups of fruits and vegetables, which is what is advised in the report

Roger,

More good news you just gained some Horsepower!  :bananarock:

A while back someone here did an equation for how rider weight effects your bikes performance. :nixweiss:

So if I remember correctly you just picked up the equivalent of about 4 ponies on the top end.  :2vrolijk_21:

PS: Keep up the good work and you'll be running with the HBRR's in no time.  :huepfenlol2:

Roger, I've been looking for a little motivation to loose some weight. I think I just found it. I have already decided to give up ice cream for Lent, but I may have to go further. Do we have any chalengers here?

Nothin' wrong with a few extra ponies.  That is part of the reason I'm doing this as well.  In addition to getting into some kind of shape to hike and hunt in New Zealand, I am doing a horseback trip in September in Montana.  I know I need to be in shape for that in more ways than just my weight.  I'm sure I'll need to do some horseback rides this summer to get the legs in shape.  It's a 13 hour ride to camp.

I hope some more folks that want to give a diet a shot jump in and start one.

Thanks for the encouragement.

Oh man, ice cream, can I tell you stories.  For starters, two Hawgs and Dawgs (vanilla with milk chocolate and almonds) on the hour drive home, huge dinner around 8pm most nights and then a big bowl of whatever ice cream was around.  Ice cream is my vice, I admit it.  Sort of gave it up a few months ago, but don't let me near it.

This diet gives you a desert in the evening, pudding, cookies, biscotti etc.  I don't recommend the soy chips regardless of flavor.

Anyone considering this, look at the group that Marino did the diet with.  They lost anywhere from 40 to 100 plus pounds, with before and after pics on this link.....drag your cursor over the pics.

Quick update, lost a couple pounds this week but continue to lose inches, dropped another notch in the belt.

My sister and bro-in law got on this about a week ago and both have lost 4 to 6 pounds.

I hit a plateau this past week or so and then dropped off it yesterday so I'll see how it goes this week, figure it should start dropping again.

Talked to my brother last night, maybe if I had before the diet I wouldn't have gone on it.

He has me by an ich or two and about 50 pounds.  His idea is what mine used to be.  I'm old enough to do what I want and eat what I want.  Now he's thinking he needs to drop about 50 since the "do what I want" plan isn't working so well.  He's been receiving for some time now too.

Well I hit 220 today, so now I have to commit myself to an exercise routine as that is what I told my self in the beginning.

Not worth a pic at this time, but I can say I am down two belt notches and now have to dig through the drawer and see if I kept any belts from the thinner days as I am in the last notch of the belts I own.

I would expect that with the addition of exercise and the fact I just dropped off another plateau I have been stuck on, that I should see another 5 pounds over the next couple of weeks.  Currently I am down a solid 22 pounds with some business meetings and a couple of candy bars along the way.

With my 2 month anniversary on the plan coming up on the 16th I am pleased to be down 22# with a week to go.  I hope to be at a 25# loss on the 16th.

Not worthy of another pic at this time but when I hit 25# I will post the significant appearance change.

Way to go Roger!!!!! :2vrolijk_21: What ever you decide to do in the form of exercising make sure you include something aerobic in it. Since I've started going back to the gym (daily and sometimes twice/day) I'm riding the bike for at least 20 minutes a day/visit getting my heart rate up to 140 - 150. I'm also lifting weights three times a week, and the combination of both have me feeling really good. Continued success in meeting your goals.

Thanks Gary, I have a treadmill at home and work through an aerobic session on it.  In the past I start with a week of 30 minute sessions and then start one hour sessions after that.  Usually this occurs prior to elk season and this year it is motivated because of a trip to New Zealand that will include hunting at 10 to 11,000 foot elevations in late May.

Plus, I need all the horsepower I can get for Nelson and using the HP/Weight conversion I am gaining horsepower like crazy :orange:

Great Job Roger.  I myself have been on the diet wagon for sometime 14months. Lost 64 lbs on a strict exercise program and eating lower cal foods with lots of fruit and have kept it off. No ice cream and yes no :drink: Plus the added money I have been saving not doing these bad eating drinking habits. Most people I have not seen in year and half don"t even recognize me. I guess the biggest problem you will have is once you quite the NS program is switching over to regular foods and keeping the weight off. Good luck Bro :2vrolijk_21: And yes that HP/Weight ratio thing you can really feel the diffeance. Its like taken off your tour-pack.

Congrats on your success.

The part I like about the Nutrisystem deal is all the regular food you add to the entree.  The entrees are really just normal stuff in correct portions so I recall when I did this in 89 that the transition for me wasn't bad.

The difference this time is I don't want to gain it back so I will/have committed to a complete change in my eating habits and what I eat.  We'll see as with anything if I can stick to it, but we are going to be spending a lot of time on the golf course and at the pool when our second home is completed, I don't want to see the old me by the pool anymore than anyone else does.  Old naked people are bad enough let alone old "fat" naked people ::)

Well, it has been some two weeks since I checked in here and during that time I have had a few business trips and a few candy bars etc. along the way.  Even on those days when I have fallen off the wagon I have stuck with the regimen however and I know I have continued to reshape and lose inches.

I have been stuck at the 220 level all of this time until this morning.  I know we hit plateaus during weight loss and have not been discouraged over the month, needless to say however after staring at a 219/200 weight for that long it was great to fall off the plateau today and stare at 216#. Plus I got into (comfortably) some 36 pants.

I hope that means sub 215 range by weeks end.  200 is still the ultimate goal and Nelson is D Day.

Hey! Roger
Why in the world wouldn't you keep this a secret, Bandanagirl reads this thread and now I have to start. Looked last night at the website was on the program years ago when they had stores like a Jenny Craig, have to be honest I've been to all of them and have to say the Nutrasystem program worked the best for me. It's alot easyier taking the food because it's not frozen, while traveling, and I do like the thought of more horsepower :huepfenlol2:

It is a pain in the ass to have to be concerned about it, but I decided it is something I need to do.  Cindy is 12 years younger than I am and I want to be around as long as I can, just having too much fun.

You're my age and it doesn't get any easier.  Since I started, just in my circle of friends/relatives about 5 of them have started with NS.  It is the easiest for me.  I did it back in '89 and it worked then too.  My hunting partner ordered it yesterday.  As I am sure you know from your mention of diets, it just takes commitment and sticking to it.  I'm still draggin' my feet on the excercise routine.

I like to do it in the AM and my kid moved in and his room is next to the treadmill, so I don't want to disturb him.  But, he may just have to sleep through it because the pounds aren't coming off as quickly now that I get down near the target weight.  I most likely need to kick up the metabolism with some exercise which is good anyway.

Good luck if you decide to jump on it, Nelson isn't too far off and would be a good target date to be down to some goal you set :2vrolijk_21:

        Roger,

Im 10 years younger than Don and I want him around for awhile too !

Its real funny he will buy me lots of chrome which is very costly but to try to talk him in to $260.00 of food is another issue.

I hear you, it's just mind over matter, simply decide what "matters" :2vrolijk_21:
