18 heat question
« on: June 10, 2018, 10:54:03 AM »

Do these things run hotter than the TCs? Mine fans seem to run a lot more than they did on my 2015.

Are you feeling a significant loss of power when the heat is really bad? Have you tried to roll the hrottle hard when you feel the heat, only to find the bike is unresponsive?

If the answer to these questions is “yes”, you should consider having your dealer check your bike for sumping using instructions in sb1450.

This is the first twin cooled bike for me, dont know if the fan runs longer than previous models but its definitely cooler than the tc's I've owned.

Ditto.  Much cooler than any twinkie I've had and I've had 5 of them from 88" to 95" to 103" to 110".  Now I've read that the M8s are not really all that much cooler than the TCs but that the moco just did a better job of keeping the heat from the rider and co-rider.  I agree but I still think the M8s themselves are cooler than the TCs.

If you really want hot then try the 2007 110" motor.  Heck even the 96" motor that year.  They were both EXTREMELY hot, hot, hot on the rider and co-rider.  And my 2011 CVO RG Ultra was a bear in traffic in hot weather.  The moco has done a phenomenal job imo of making these M8s more tolerable in hot weather.  Not perfect but definitely much more tolerable.

when running normal the M8 is much cooler than the TC. Only time I felt heat was when sumping.

It just got back from the shop, we thought it might have sumped but it didn't... I asked the question because the fans seem to run more than they did on my '15 CVO.

One of 2 reasons I bought with a M8.  Grabbed a rental in south fla put 1400 miles on it. Wife and I both noticed how much cooler it was. 6 months later rental Vegas ,Arizona,Utah all in 95-98 degrees and another 1875 ...so much cooler than even a 96 twink. The sumpin issue all over the net did help on the price of a slightly used 975 mile private sale...  But they do run so much cooler out of the box.

I have full exhaust that is ceramic coated so it's not a level of heat that I feel.  The fans just run a lot.  For instance, yesterday morning it was mid 70s on the way to work (23 miles), when I pulled up to park the fans ran about 60 secs after I shut it down.  It wasn't a hard ride, cruise control at 80 until I hit the 3/4 of a mile I have on a city street.  I don't know if you remember but it spent almost 3 weeks in the shop because I thought it had sumped.  Turns out that when the factory installed the rings they lined all the splits on rear cylinder.  I've put about 300 miles on the bike since I got it back in 90 Degree plus heat.  I've rolled into the bike hard a couple of times with no noticeable issues, but to be honest, I'm having some trust issues with this new bike. I'm supposed to do about 6 hours in 90 plus degrees this Saturday but I'm second guessing that.

I too bought into all the trust issues myself....so I rented a 17 when they came outand ran the piss out of it in southern fla.....asked the guys in the shop at eagle. They just rolled there eyes and said more stuff broke from the Brazilians crashing em. Lol. Did the same in Vegas few weeks ago with and 18..... Took and ran it hard thru theNevada  dessert up into Utah Colorado Arizona  really hot...off into New Mexico California ......2200 never missed a beat. Did the same with those guys ..they said they did have trike loose a motor but never did pull it apart.  Vegas has 250 bikes ....so I bought a m8 4500 on it already.  Your results may not be the same.  I have a cell phone  ...blows up?  Had the PETERBILT blow up. New Mercedes lost a crankcase vent.....carry on.  Lol. Not the end of the world..

tell the guys who purchased the  m8 and financed it. the warranty is gone and they have to pay out of pocket for all the repairs.   may not be the end of the world  but its reality like itor not   denial will not change a damn thing   no matter how  its put forth never.
