On the new to me old bike it occurred that even though the tires looked new I didn't know how old, tread notwithstanding, they actually are.  Took a look.  Nine years old (insert bad words here).

Back wheel is a solid wheel and aluminum.  No great worries there.  Front wheel old chrome spoke.  From the outside looked good though.  No pitting or flaking.  None of the normal visual worries.  Tires got here a week or so ago and found this inside the wheel (insert bad words here).  Several spots eaten all the way through.  Inside of every yellow circle are place that made me insert bad words.

Plus the hub was ugly.  No chrome.  An absolute sacrilege.

Replacement arrived today.  So much better....

Tubeless too.  So a bit of a plus there as well.  Differences in the aftermarket stuff though. 

With the OE spacer between the wheel and rotor the speedo drive would no longer fit.  Rotor bolts hit it.  End play is set differently with new wheel as well.  Done with a spacer that works as a crush sleeve.  Actually not sure how comfortable I am with that yet.  Something to keep a close eye on.  It'll still look better.

The spacer between the rotor and wheel added just enough thickness that the heads of the rotor bolts would just touch the speedo drive.  Left out the spacer plate.  Rotor still aligns with caliper.  Neither the aftermarket wheel nor the rotor will care if the plate is there.  Sometimes you get lucky and have easy solutions.

Reminds me of the old guy that asked his doc for a Viagra prescription, and the doc refused.  Old guy asks why & the doc said it would be like putting a flagpole on a condemned building.
