Intake manifold seal
« on: January 13, 2019, 10:48:11 AM »

Advice please.
The attached snip of an intake manifold has a arrow to the seal between manifold and head. Is this seal supposed to project beyond the spigot on the manifold such that when the manifold is tightened to the  head it forms a seal before the spigot makes contact with the head. I presume the spigot does not project into the port, on my 110" the spigot outside diameter is bigger than the port inside diameter so it will not go in anyway?
I have not got new seals and the ones on are below the face of the spigot, I assume it does not rely on metal to metal as a gas seal.
Much appreciated any feedback you can give.

I think I now know how it works, the flange is loose and pulls the seal onto the machined face head around the inlet port , so as long as the seal projects beyond the face of the loose flange it will do it's job?

Make sure you put a little grease around the seal to help it move as you tighten the intake manifold up, tighten them evenly so as not to bend them, "Do Not fully tighten one side first", it will bend them!!

I also put the air filter bracket on the throttle body and put in the breather bolts so that when you get the flanges tight the TB will line up properly with your air filter assembly hardware.

don't tighten any of the bolts, just assemble finger tight first. then snug a little at a time all of the bolts and clamps.
