Front Brake Calipers
« on: August 11, 2008, 04:47:33 PM »

Greetings all...

So, I just had a front tire re-done on my FXR3 and noticed that the caliper on the inside close to the rim, doesn't have an insert...Now I thought there was one in there. Has it always been blank? Or, did the stelaer who did the work forget to replace it? I cannot remember, and i don't have an old pic of the front end to compare it with.

I'm sure this probably belongs in the FXR3 section, but I'm guessing someone who might not own one would have a good shot from the right side so I can see the front wheel and know if that insert was always missing, or if this is their screwup.

Thanks in advance...

i would assume you would have one pad on each side. does the front brake feel any different since getting the bike back?

Not sure what you mean by "insert," but I did just post some photos of my FXR3 in the FXR section over the weekend.  They're in the "Photos . . ." thread.  Take a look and see if you can find what you're looking for there, and if not, I can shoot some more of the brakes when I get home tonight.

Looking at the caliper. You see the outer circular insert. The one that says "Harley Davidson" on it...looking inside the front wheel...on the right side of the rim, it appears as if there should be a caliper insert just like it inside, but it's not there...has that always been open with the caliper exposed?

I've never heard of a Brake Caliper Insert on the inside of the caliper. Only the outside. Doesn't mean they didn't do anything special on these bikes, but I'm not aware of it. I'd be surprised.

Yes, that's just black there, no chrome insert.

Thanks...I appreciate it. I just happened to catch it out of the corner of my eye and thought it looked strange. I've had the bike for years and it never occurred to me. Very weird that I'd "notice" it today. Even though I've looked thousands of times.

Mind must be going...

Thanks for the pic...and yeah..I want a blue one now to match :)

No, you're mind is not 'going'.... :rolleyes3:....just that you noticed a way to 'improve' on your bike 'in your mind'.  Now all you have to do is come up with the shiney part that will fill that void that you have now noticed. Might even entail making a polished stainless part or ???   :nixweiss: It's a 'sickness' I'm here to tell you.  ??? har!  :drink: spyder
