Radar Detectors
« on: April 29, 2009, 12:57:23 PM »

I want to install the top of the line radar detector on my '09 SEUC4. My starting point for research is here. What are your suggestions and who makes a wiring harness for beep tones in my headset? I spoke with J&M this morning and their radar detector wiring harness, which is $50, first requires that you install the cell phone/gps/radar integration kit, which is an additional $370 list price.

I am not sure but I believe cycle gadgets offers a integrated system for radar detectors.  I know they do when you include the GPS solution.

The best radar detector is by far the Valentine.  Also, the most expensive.

I run a Valentine 1 in my vehicles - have for years.  IMO Valentine is the best money can buy...   I wish Valentine made a compact, water proof motorcycle model...   :nixweiss:

Sounds like Valentine is the hands down choice. How about posting some pictures it it mounted on your Ultra Classics? Is anyone wiring it into the headset or just listening for the sound right from the unit?

I use HD's Road Tech radar detector.  Hasn't failed me yet, and it looks great on the bike.

Interesting replys.  I have for many years gone with ESCORT in all of my vehicles.  The guy that started up Valentine is a former ESCORT guy.  I feel confident that both are excellent choices.

I too am looking for the best setup for my new scoot.  I have a related website that may be of interest,  but I'll have to come back with the info when I get back from my garage.

I don't use my Valentine on my bike but here is the links to mount the Valentine and a weather proof case (via a Ram mount).

I don't care how good it is, I would never do that to my bike.

Here's the Road Tech version, mounted:

The Road Tech 75 was developed for Harley-Davidson by Escort, the leader in radar and laser detection technology. The Road Tech 75 Detector features superior warning range for laser and X, K, and Superwide Ka band radar. Road Tech 75 also detects the latest "POP" mode radar and Safety Warning Messages (SWS). Digital Signal Processing (DSP) provides long range warning on all bands while drastically reducing false alarms. Exclusive EZ-Programming allows you to customize up to 8 selectable features, including ExpertMeter which tracks and displays up to 8 radar signals at once. The rugged water-resistant detector is easily removed from the installed mount when parked to reduce potential theft. Kit includes compact travel storage case. The self-contained audio alert speaker is loud enough to hear while wearing a helmet.
