starter problems 103
« on: February 26, 2006, 06:42:18 PM »

On cold days the jack shaft on my starter sticks and wines until it lets go abou two block or so or until the motor warms up, temp outside about 38 to 40 degrees.
Question is this bad on the starter or not to worry.
Any input would be great!.
Thank you
Art

Art, the starter staying engaged is never a good thing.  Get it in to the shop before you ruin something expensive and have the dealership deny the warranty claim for negligent use.  It really is something you don't want to keep driving.

I had one to do that on a Wide Glide and the starter shaft was bent was the cause.

Whether the bike is still in warranty or not,get it looked at as others have stated.  That grinding when starter stays engaged is probably putting metal shavings in your primary which may effect your clutch, chain, tensioner, brgs etc..

Hey Art,
Bring that thing by and let me loook at that chrome starter.  I may need to do the same thing for looks.  Mine was dragging too, but it turned out that all I needed to do was shim the top of the starter about .030...   Fixed her right up....
