RG wanting to add 2 more speakers, what works best?
« on: November 13, 2010, 12:26:45 AM »

I purchased a Hawg Wired 4 channel amp and was wondering where I should mount the 2nd set of speakers. Should I cut holes in the inner fairing and add a couple 6.5" speakers or add speaker pods to my lowers? Seems like the lowers would be a safer more traditional way to go. If I do them in the lowers I was going to sell my RG lowers and purchase the Ultra lowers and upgrade the shark nose to the 2010 relocation to allow the Ultra lowers to fit. Just looking for advise from those that have been there and done that.

Using 2011 CVO Street Glide speaker boxes to replace glove boxes in vented fairing lowers works; they create a fuller sound; almost a wall of sound compared to fairing speakers only.  The installation is described in this thread:

In the lower fairing is my prefer method too. Now I need to decide if I want to go with RG speaker boxes for my RG Lowers or make the switch to UG Vented Lowers and upgrade my Shark Nose Fairing Mounts.

Might not be to your taste, but they make saddlebag lids that are bulit up the accept a pair of speakers. Kinda different look and it lets you get some sound behind you as though you had a tour-pak with rear pods. I've also seen them mounted facing forward in the bags themselves. Lots of ways to do it. I have an RG with a Tour-pak and like having the rear speakers. Seems like when I'm by myself they give me a better balance of sound. Of course two up they get blocked off some by the passenger so these bag lids seem like a solid option.
