Sirrius vs. XM
« on: June 04, 2012, 12:21:35 PM »

Why can't I pick up the same channels on my zumo 665 (XM) that I can in my truck (Sirrius)?   XM won't play NASCAR channel #90.

There are different channels for the XM and Sirius radios.

Heres a link to the channel line up for the XM radios.

the sirrius vs xm fiasco is the dumbest thing ever

neither one could make any money so they had to merge - but the satellites are not compatible so they have two completely different systems going - and the receivers are not compatible - they are stuck

at some point they are going to have to throw in the towel and give up on one or the other and give the losing side cheap converters

sucks all around

and this is in ONE company - sheesh - and folks think biz works better than politics - HA! its the same

Even though there are two different systems, they could feed NASCAR on both systems.

Have you looked at "the best of Sirus on XM"  I forget what all is offered but we have it on XM for my wife to have NFL when we are riding during football season.  Yeah, yeah, I know my widfe is the jock, I am a gear head not a sports fan....  Only Sirius offers NFL not XM, but you can pay a little extra and get it on XM

???I have Sirius in my can because that is what it came with and XM on the CVO and as far as I can tell the line ups are a match. They matched up about a year ago.

You can thank the govt for the XM/Sirius problem. In order for them to 'merge', more of a buyout really, they were required to maintain the two companies as separate.

As far as reception coverage, XM satellites are supposedly further south in their geosync orbits than Sirius. I was trying to find a Sat tracker for Google Earth but I guess the owner removed it. Anyway, that's the last I checked into it back in 2005. Others might have some better info.

Nope...not in all cases.  There are some differences.  It depends on what you like to listen to.

XM for the bike.....Sirius for the Jeep....and no deal...pay full for 2....I think NOT! Pita to move antenna....both cut out way too often (maybe that's just up here in Canada)...but, I decided to pass and spend a bit of time setting up some good playlists for the iPod. But they do have a 'free 3 month trial' going on right now...probably in the hopes you forget to cancel and they can start billing you.

XM plays channel 90, you just have to have the correct package. I have both, Sirrus on my company car and XM on my bike and her car. No difference other than a few numbers are different. I listen to XM/Sirrus morning to night and its all the same.

Frankly, all the Sirius vs XM discussion aside, I have had the most absolutely horrible customer dis-service experience with Sirius that I am dropping Sirius in my Jeep and will never activate XM on my scoot. I have spent hours, literally, on the phone with rep after rep trying to reactivate service after they:
- confuse me with some one else's account 3500 miles away
- disconnect me with 6.5 months left on my paid subscription and then charge me for 6 months of service to reactivate my service.
- When I go online they show that I have 5 different radio IDs to my name. I only have 1.
- My service has been dropped a total of 6 times in 4 years each time with many months remaining on my paid subscription.

The aggravation and time dealing with this company is not worth it.

BTW . . . I removed my credit card number from my online account and they send invoices charging $2.00 for each invoice on top of my regular bill. This is after I have told them to cancel my subscription.

Must be nice having a monopoly!!!

Sorry folks . . . had an opportunity to rant and rave and took it.

With the last price increase they had, I cancelled Sirius in the truck and the XM on the bike. Just not worth the price for the few channels I actually listen to. For they price of 2 yearly subscripions I can buy a lot of music from ITunes and just move the IPod between the two.

I canceled my XM, had one XM in the car and a Sirius in the Evoque.  Can not have one account, hours on the phone trying to drop one of my two xm and add sirius.

Such a pain they lost a 6 year customer.

Ok.  Update.  Finally got ahold of customer service.  Seems I did have the basic plan which doesn't include NASCAR.  Sooo, I had them drop my Nav/traffic/weather upgrade and move me to the premium plan.  I went from $25 for stuff I didn't use anyway to $17 and finally have what I want.  If those idiots would have just included NASCAR in the first place, they'd still be getting 8 or 9 extra dollars out of me.

I just installed  the RT 665 and activated the XM. What horrible customer service!!! First time I called the message said it would be a 4 minute wait and I hung up after 30 minutes. Called back a hour later and this time the message said it would be a 6 minute wait and I stuck it out for 45 minutes before they finally answered. The person barely spoke English and I still don't know what packages are available and from reading this thread, I guess I still don't have the traffic service which I tried to tell this person I wanted but am only paying $9.95 per month. Very frustrating but I do love the service and have really only listened to Satellite for many years and have to put up with the crappy customer service...

I get NASCAR on channel 90.  I think you have to pay more for the upper tier package.  David

The packages are explained on their website, you can also use your account to change things on the web vs. phone if you like.

I just got mine so I hope that I don't need customer service from the sounds of it. I really like the channels and have about 15 i surf Thur. I think the price is high but I sprung for the 665 and wanted to use all the features. I am a tech kinda guy and like gadgets. I subscribed on line and it was fast and easy. Pulled bike out in the driveway and clicked the button to send a signal. In a few minutes I was rocking. No human interaction and no problem....Face

Oh you're such a geek.  :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21: Good job man and thanks for the online idea. I've been just calling them but then I only subscribe for 1 month a year...and haven't used in a very long time. Didn't even set up the XM account on Big blue last summer.

Trying to remember what XM radios I have. Bought a stand alone in 2005 then my pickup has it, Blue has it and I also have a 665 on another bike. Seems like I'm missing one...maybe I'm just thinking internet radio access. Wish I had the radar on Big Blue that the 665 does. It came in very handy last year while riding between tornados.

You guys having the customer service problems should try updating on your own online. I have changed my package a couple times over the  years and always completed it online with no problems or human interaction at all. I did call them recently when wife bought anew car that had a year of free service on it and I wanted to change the plan we had been using on her previous car to my sons car. Guy I was speaking with was a little hard to understand, but did offer to change my deal around which resulted in saving $55 if I paid a year in advance. I felt he was tryin, He offered, I didn't even ask.

Thanks for the thoughts and suggestions COR. Unfortunately, they have my account so botched up that in the list of 5 radios numbers showing on my online account, not one of them is the number that is associated with the radio I do have. I have been over this with them (on the phone - Groan) and they still haven't been able to straighten things out. If I try to add my current, valid radio ID into the online interface, I will be charged again for a new subscription.

I think I will stick with my iPod.
