TW 777 or stock cams
« on: July 23, 2012, 12:48:06 AM »

Hello,

Would like to know your opinion. At my previous street glide I have the TW6-6 installed
Now I want to install the TW777 to get more torque and power then the stock doe.
The local tuner gives me the advice to the 110 "standard good tune and the investment of the tw777 to withhold. Because they do not deliver what is expected says the local tuner.
My specs are CUSE 09 110" stock headers without the cat, directlink ECM (technoseacrh) and Rinehart slipons.
Happy to see your response and any advice

You'll need to cc and re-surface the heads, to reduce the combustion chamber volume, in order to support the 777 correctly.
That said, it'll run very well indeed. :2vrolijk_21:

Scott, is the ideal compression ratio 10.4:1 for a the 777 cams?  Or is there a range of CR that you would recommend?

Yes, 10.4 will do it.

Thanks Scott.  I have the 777 cam in my bike now with stock compression.  I was thinking of doing my heads this winter and having shaved/decked to 10.4 ish compression.  Do you have any other suggestions of work that should be done while the heads are off?

Port work, and a t/body that'll mate correctly to the intake port I.D.

If you don't want to do any other work other a cam install.
I would suggest either the Feuling 574 or the Cycle-Rama 575 cams.
These work well with no head work or having to install thinner head gaskets.

My 777 in the stock engine smoothed out the torque curve and not longer has the drop off at 4200 RPM.  A little more HP.  I also find I have cooler engine temps and also easier starting as a result of lower cranking pressure.  From what I've read the 777 really needs the increased cranking pressure to come alive

Right on.
And once the compression is set, the 777 will really shine.

FWIW: You might want to also look at the new Bobby Wood TW-222.

Should work pretty well as a bolt in with stock heads.

I installed the 777 in my 2010, 110 and so far it has made a world of difference. I changed the cam and air intake to stage one, I retooled the stock mufflers with 1.75 full sac baffles ( nice sound not too loud) and a PV turner. The result is a strong pull two up riding, no more pings pulling up grades at high altitudes. I am still waiting for the back order for fuelmoto ceramic coated headers (14) weeks to complete the job, and drop the temperature on the right side for my wife. Then retune and see how the whole package works. So far the 777 is delivering as claimed.

My brother just had the 777's installed in his 2012 103 Street Glide a little over a week ago. He has the SE Tuner, Reinhart true duals, 4" Reinhart slipons and the SE air filter. With that work his bike now runs "pretty" close to my 2011 CVO Street Glide with a gutted cat, tuner and V&H High Output slipons. His bike definitely gets up on rev much quicker than mine and the power seems to fit more in my riding style. By that I mean the power runs up quicker and stays a little longer. I'm not necessarily the low rpm put around type. That's not to stay I'm a high rpm rider either. I just like to shift and ride at a higher rpm level.

I really like the cams range and placement of power!

Now my brother is going to add heads and higher compression pistons this weekend because he can't quite out run me yet. His "guy", a local HD shop head mechanic, told him to purchase the HD CNC Ported Heads. He said that unless your trying to be a racer the 10.5-1 pistons and those heads would work perfect. He said there was no need to add the throttle body, again unless he was a racer. Oh, he's adding the stiffer clutch spring as well.

A question for the group:
** Are the HD CNC Ported Heads different from the CVO 110 Screamin Eagle heads? If so, in what way?

His "guy" said there are HD compressor heads but they don't have the compression release and that the CNC heads had better flow.

I'm afraid there's a little brotherly competition goning on here and he's trying to make me spend money! I'll let you know how bad he beats me when it's done and he gets it broke in.
