Thoughts on Trading
« on: January 17, 2014, 07:24:00 PM »

I have my 2011 CVO Road Glide with 14000 miles all decked out My way and saw a new CVO red ultra and my head started spinning, do I want to start over or wait for the 2015 CVO Road Glide with no guarantees on production ? Any thoughts from current owners? I do not like the blue tooth on my current bike that is run through my Garvin 665. My last 2008 CVvO Ultra always had a vibration at 75 mph, where as I think my current RG is much smoother I guess maybe wing had to do with that. HELP

Take off all the extras you can easily take off as you will get nothing extra for them, and get a difference quote. That may make up your mind.

Traded my 2009 CVO Ultra with 13K miles for the new Burgundy Blaze Limited.  It was a great move for me.  Reasons include, I took off all my extras and put original parts back on the 2009.  I got top dollar for my trade because I kept the bike clean and it was stock.  In OH you only have to pay sales tax on the difference between trade and sale of new bike.  Pretty big costs savings so check the law in PA.  The 2014 is far superior than the 2009.  Brakes better, handles much better and is smooth to 100 MPH.  Facts are the 2014 is just a much better bike.  Add in that my 2009 was hitting the age where its value was starting to or will drop significantly. The 2014 and it's improvements didn't help the value of the 2009 and even your 2011.  I would think it would start to effect your RG value also.  It really comes down to if the Ultra fits you or are you a road glide rider. Even with its first year quirks, which will get hashed out, 2014 is bad the bone.  My o2

I'm sorry but I can't imagine trading a slightly used bike for a new and more expensive model because I don't like the Bluetooth setup on the old bike.  I would need something much more substantial to talk myself into it, much less talk the better half into it.

I have no idea if money makes any difference to you, but for arguments sake let's say you're like many people and don't want to waste a pile of cash.  As deldago said, get some numbers from local dealers for the trade-in value of your current bike, then compare to the MSRP of the new bike.  Do you really think that new infotainment system is worth $14k (new bike $40k, trade-in $26k)?

Keep it and ride it. Why get rid of the best touring bike MoCo ever made? Then again, I just might be a little partial to it. Besides, if you trade it in and want stock parts back, I can meet you for a quick outer fairing swap ;D

Good deal. Besides, You'd be sick to your stomach if you traded and MoCo came out with a replacement next summer that would knock your socks off. I'm sure there's more than one Shark owner waiting to see what the redesign is going to look like.

I'm waiting as well. If Harley comes out with a Ultra CVO Road Glide and also introduce a 120R version of the twin cooled CVO engine, it may be game on. With all of the 2014 improvements, the next logical thing to do is bump up the engine size as the competiton, if you call it that (Indian), has a 111 engine in thier standard bike. The 110 for Harley will be better served as a standard engine in the touring plattform and make the 120 special for the CVO.... Just saying.

I kick myself in the butt for not buying my buddy's 11 CVO RG a couple of years ago when he offered it to me. I would have saved a lot of $$$ instead if adding stuff to the '09 to make it more like an Ultra.
