I'm with Spiderman on this one, seems that a routine oil change or tire replacement on a longer trip just becomes part of the motorcycle travel experience and can become a point of interest if you happen to get a good dealer/shop  w/ good people, etc.  It has happened to me more than once.  You just gotta plan for it 'on the fly' as the mileage/wear dictates.  Riding w/ a large group or schedule would impose other considerations though like Naitram did on his trip.  JMHO.  [smiley=drink.gif] har! spyder

When I take these long trips I always do a "10k" type service on the bike (I do the wrenching) whether it is due or not.  This also includes new plugs and tires unless the tiires are virtually new.  I'm kinda OCD and don't want to worry about all this stuff on the road.  I do admit it raises the cost of the trip about $350 but compared to what I'll spend during a three week trip on T-shirts, beer.......

yee haw!  Brian and Kathy.  IF you are anything like us, between now and Nelson, [highlight]you will probably put about 3 - 5 thousand miles on your bikes[/highlight].  On top of current 3 - you will be sitting at 6 or 9 and at 9 you are about done, so you will be starting trip with a new tires. But stopping enroute is not the end of the world, with a phone call ahead to confirm availability, stopping at an interesting locale is fun too.  

Candy,  problem is that now I have to put the new tire on, so when we leave I will have about 3000 on the new tire. Oh yea it will be an old tire by then.
