Most Likely States for a Deer Collision
« on: November 03, 2014, 03:09:01 PM »

I viewed this article on the web - thought it was interesting so excerpted the attached chart. Looks like West Virginians have a 1 in 39 chance of hitting a deer in the next 12 months, the highest on the U.S. list as compiled by State Farm...

Yeah I knew my location, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, was high on the chart. Can't go riding a day without dodging live animals or road kill.

I actually expected PA to be first on the list 2 Rose - I've never seen so many deer smeared along the highway anywhere else in my travels.

Texas has to be way up there in reality as well...  Maybe if they consider hogs as well...

We certainly see lots of them here on the back roads, the Natchez Trace is where you see them every night.

And then Wisconsin is on there. We ride there every year since we can get there in 3 hours and it's great riding. The deer I see on the shoulder are HUGE!

It's odd that New Jersey did top the list. I always see fresh road kill on the road side. More so South Jersey, lots of large deer down here.

But it's Venison!
if you haven't had a good Back strap steak or venison stew you need to try!
I'm sure if you hit him just right (in the head!) it won't be to bloody!
and you can throw him, or her over the bags and on to the house!

Yes Texas is big at the right time of the year, now!

hauling my 66 to a car show 1500 miles away I left the house around midnight and almost got myself one on 45 north around Huntsville!

my dad came home a couple of time with new dents in the 68 Imperial! from hitting one

How many times do you lap the island before you get tired of seeing the same thing? And then there's the whole volcano thing and the bajillion miles from anywhere thing. I think it's a great place to vacation but that's about the end of it.  :nixweiss:

In many states it's illegal to take home a deer if you hit it with your vehicle

Venison stew, if prepared properly, is excellent. Venison can be gamey, of course, but prepared well can be delicious.

I wonder if there are insurance clauses for those in the high risk areas... like flood or tornado coverages in those high risk areas

I live in Ohio which didn't make the list but the only thing separating my area from W.V. is the Ohio river, and let me tell you those bastages can swim like crazy! We have seen them swim a half mile across the river in minutes and jump right across a 4 lane full of traffic. A couple of years ago I had one clear my front fender by less than a foot as it jumped out of a creek bed at 35 mph. Talk about an underwear ruining moment! :o
