2007 SERK 110 full stock.
   I have talked about this before, but I wanted to drop an update.  I had mentioned that I had developed a constant tick at around 8k miles.  Something else I have noticed is this odd sound at 2200rpm or so that sounds like valve float or valve chatter.  The engine isnt missing or running oddly that I can tell and I havent found anything in the oil at oil change either.  But something that puzzles me more, if the fact that these sounds "seemed" to appear almost right after an oil change from the factory SYN3 to Amsoil 20X50 Full Synth.  A Harley tech said its possible that the amsoil is causing the noise.  I would love to hear other chime in.  I dont really want this to become a oil battle discussion if it can be avoided.  That "valve" noise goes away above that 2200rpm mark and only comes back when I am at 2200rpm or when I am in the neutral thottle position where you arent accelerating or decelerating...

If that's the case, and wanting to stay with a synthetic, then go in the other direction to say Red Line 20W60.
Zippers offers 50W Red Line syn also.

Well oddly enough, he was saying that the SYN3 has "thinner" characteristics and "flows" easier allowing the oil to get into the lifter faster and up to the top faster and with more pressure...just saying.. :)

I think Syn3 also has a viscosity of 20/50.  If so then in theory the oil is about the same thickness cold and hot.  I usually have one type of oil I like and just stick with it.  Oil can be different from one manufacture to another.  Since you didn’t have the noise with Syn3, why not just go back to Syn3.

Studies show that syn3 doesnt protect as well as amsoil.  and no these werent done by amsoil.  But I thought about going back.  Its a mental thing.  But I digress, I am wondering if this could really BE the cause of the noise.  Asking mechnics..

The noise you are hearing is what most CVO 110 owners experience
But it is not "normal", as a dealer will have you to believe
The noise can be helped by using a lifter with a slower bleed rate. Higher viscosity oil is a band-aid and does hurt lubrication when the motor is started cold. A cam change would help even more as the ramps of the SE255 which comes stock in the CVO110 are very steep. Valve springs changed to beehives with less pressure another improvement as far as lifter life and noise.
In some cases piston slap is the root cause and then all of the above applies plus the cylinders need to be bored and torque plate honed and oversized pistons fit to cure the issue(s)

What I dont for the life of me understand, is why there hasnt been a recall or a class action or something.  Does this lifter issue, compensator issue, valve spring and cam issue happen to EVERY 110?

To some extent yes
Some worse than others. Warranty is skated around because most make it past the 2 year mark without catastrophic failure. ESP is not always purchased and even then going back with the same poor quality parts and machine work the MOCO provided originally is not a real solution. Most of the time the owners proactively fix the issue(s) out of their own pocket. Not a real savory situation.

Well, I am lucky I guess.  I do know quite about cars, and these engines arent much different LOL.  It doesnt sound like slap or rods, and it all sounds to be on top on the motor.  Likely all the noise is valve train related.  Is it just me or do these engines also emit a whine noise at idle that sounds somewhat like an alternator on a car?  It sounds like it is coming from either the front of the motor or the right side.  Should have kept my SuperGlide 96Ci LOL

It should be noted that 2007 being the first year did have a factory product update with new heads for the touring models.

According to my maint record, there was a gasket recall and it was applied.

My theory is a failing lifter.  The lifter is not pumping up or staying pumped up, so I get valve float at certain RPMs.  I still plan to order the GMR Lifters and New pushrods.  Life just keeps happening.  Eventually.

There was a class action suit against harley for the issues on the 2007 & 2008 cvo models, but the link is now gone. Maybe the powers at be could get you that info if it is still active

Yea.. this looks like the gasket issue.  My bike has had the "upgrade".  I just dont understand why the other very consistant issues werent addressed...Oh well..
