Title: Changing gear ratio
Post by: 08_ScreaminSpringer on January 12, 2008, 10:42:53 PM
Looking at gearing my 08 softail i have seen 2 ways to do this.. Evolution industries 30t engine spocket (stock 34t)and new chain or andrews final drive trans 30t spocket (stock 32t) and should keep the stock belt. But then the speedo maybe off.

Your stock overall gear ratio is about 2.38
With just the 30 tooth engine sprocket your looking at 2.69 overall gear ratio
With just the 30 tooth transmision sprocket your looking at a 2.52 overall gear ratio
Changing both your looking at a 2.87 overall gear ratio

Andrews
Final Drive Ratio = 2.79 with stock HD 32 tooth trans pulley
Final Drive Ratio = 2.97 with Andrews 30 tooth trans pulley
Give your ‘07 - ‘08 bike a power boost with 6.4% more RPM!
30 tooth pulley installation uses stock belts

I like this idea the best but how will the speedo be corrected?

The Evolution you do away with compensating sprocket

I had thought about doing this. But I didn't want to give up the functionality of the compensator assembly, and substitute a gear only.

Whats the job of the compensator i have seen a few pictures of it but i'm not 100% sure i know.

Will HD ever have a sprocket for the 08? I see that SE has primary gearing kit for older bikes and you keep the compensator sprocket.. P/N 40331-02 only 134.95 with new chain 94-06

The compensator sprocket is there to reduce shock loads in the primary drive. It is a spring loaded ramp thinga-ma-doodle. Smooths out the jerks and bangs, but can also contribute to some clunking.

I hope that clears up EVERYTHING.  ;D

There are no stock equivalent accessory "regearing" parts offered since they've made the changes to the '06 Dyna and the '07's and up.
