Title: Blondeharleygrrl Hello!
Post by: blondeharleygrrl on November 17, 2006, 10:29:40 PM
I'm 36, single, and a business owner.  I bought my first street bike - a Harley V-Rod 11/07/06. TheVgirl sent me to this site!  She and I met on MySpace.  She's been very helpful - taking time to give me advice.  I'm learning to ride with a friend until the MSF course in December.  The first lesson I dropped the bike.  Luckily it has crash bars so it didn't squash me like a bug!  I'd appreciate any advice on motorcycle riding, maintenance, etc.  You can check out my MySpace page by searching "juliabosshoss" on MySpace.

Welcome, Ride safe, squashed bugs belong ON ur scooter, not under it. Best tip I can give you while you are learning.....Dropping the bike or hitting anything is not an option. Convince yourself of this everytime you ride. And also, convince yourself everytime you log on here.....I dont need it, I dont need it...I dont need it. Well, maybe I do, everyone else got one.....  8-)

Harleygrrl,

Welcome to the site.   Congrats on your new bike and welcome to the OCD Space ... I think you have gotten some of the best advice anyone can give you when you get started and I will echo that in saying no matter what you do look at where your going, and try not to worry about whats behind you.   Its amazing how much changes in front of you in the blink of an eye.

Ride safe and if you have questions your on the right site to ask.

Welcome aboard BHG!!  You will find this place to be quite different than most of the bike forums, all in a good way from my experiences on the other sites.  There's not a lot of people on here with Vrods, but I happen to own one, so it's always good to have another member here with a 'rod.

Like the others have said, you WILL go where you look, so look where you WANT to go, espeically in the curves....look through them.  One book you might find helpful is "Total Control" by Lee Parks...there are others as well, but I found that one to be very informative when I got back into riding after a long absence.

We are always happy to spend other's money, so hold on to that clutch...both of them!!

BHG

I ditto every ones warm welcome to this wonderful site. Some great references mentioned here to improve riding skills. I have the ride like a pro CD and have enjoyed it. Please take it at your pace and do NOT be forced to do something your not comfortable doing. Seen to many learn how to change gears and think they got er down pat until they have to negotiate a hard turn. Take your time and always stay in your comfort zone when on two wheels! May Gods protection be with you always. Ride safe and often, God Bless!

Hey BHG,  Welcome to the site!

The "ridelikeapro"  line is a really good way to go, (especially if you're small or have short legs) as it will give you confidence boost in a big way with the low speed skills it teaches.

And it can't be said enough times, "LOOK WHERE YOU WANT TO GO, NOT WHERE YOU DON'T WANT TO BE"

I was gone for a week and there's this phantom from the distaff side that everyone is fawning over and now some pizza girl?  Whadahell happened to you guys while I was gone.  No one even drooled over V-girl this much and several actually knew she was real.  It's probably not the case, but I hope this is V-Girl just messing with everyone.  That'd be worth the price of admission.

Hi everyone,

I apologize for not replying sooner.  I own a small business which operates 24/7 during the holiday season.  Also, the CVO web site would not let me reset my password for the first few tries.  But today - oh joy - I was able to reset the password.  [smiley=banana.gif]

Thank you all so much for the great advice.  I have successfully ridden the V-Rod in a new subdivision with newly paved streets and cul-de-sacs - no houses or people yet.  My best friend has been instructing me until I get into Honda's MSF class in December.  I love to ride.  The first lesson drop didn't deter me.  I'm now learning to shift and take turns.  I can at least brake smoothly now.  I can't wait until I can ride so that I can buy a pair of leather chaps!  Woo-hoo!  (Oh, did I just say that out loud?)

I also apologize for giving you the wrong username for MySpace.  A couple of people from this site emailed to say that it was wrong.  You can use MySpace's search page under the E-mail juliharris@gmail.com

I've attached a picture of me on the V-Rod in an upright position, lol

Here is the link to my MySpace blog which VGirl suggested that everyone read for laughs.  It's about why I bought my V-Rod and named him Dirk, lol:Click here to read the blog</a href>

I enjoy using this site and learning from it.  Thank you for taking the time to give advice!  Hugs, Julia

Julia,  good you can keep the guys laughing.  Yes,  those first steps are so much fun.  I can remember my first U-Turn, my first five miles.... first ten miles ..... first 20 miles etc. the first time I pulled my SEEG outta the garage and ride under power to the front of the house, the first time I met some of the members from this great site, the first 25000 miles on my beloved SEEG and a whole lotta other firsts.  It is all just baby steps right now, but in a little time the steps can be HUGE!   [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

We were able to navigate the Black Friday rush quite well.  Got the paper on Thursday, decided what was worth going out for at a reasonable hour and then made sure the route was all right turns.  Got into Best Buy, got a couple of thumb drives and a 250 GB external Hard drive I've been wanting (to load all the pictures I've been taking and downloading of my and all of your bikes  ;D) and yesterday we got the chrome goodies of the bikes.  These final purchases pushed us over the 5000 points so that now we can cash in on the $800 to buy anything we want.  Jamey has the list..... not sure what that is going to be, but I think he wants a jack of sometype.

This is meant to be funny.....please don't take this seriously!.. I've had people send me messages saying that they hope I don't believe this the rest of my life, lol...

Since finding a good man to date is difficult, I've bought a Harley-Davidson V-Rod. I've named him Dirk. Here's why Dirk is better than a boyfriend:

1. Dirk never allows other women to ride him.

2. Dirk never leaves home unless I'm with him.

3. Dirk asks only that I ride..and maintain him,..and give him gas money.

4. He prefers me to ride on top and be in control.

5. Dirk always allows me to choose where we go.

6. When I talk, he doesn't interrupt. He's a good listener.

7. Dirk stays in great physical shape. His body style is sexy and he's got stamina.

I have attached a picture of me riding Dirk...hope it's appropriate for this site, lol!

If you have any funny remarks to add, please do!

If this person turns out to be a fraud then the member(s) responsible should be booted from the site. And NO, I am not pointing any fingers at anyone. This could be anyone's idea of fun, but to me it violates in a HUGE way the trust we put in the site. I let someone I'd never laid eyes on in my life borrow my brand new Road Glide on Friday because he was a member of this site. If I lose trust in the site because of someone's stupid immature assinine idiotic imbecile idea of fun, then I would never again feel comfortable doing what I did on Friday.

Big B,
I respect your concerns, and opinion. I think a couple of members have questioned in "jest" if she's real or not. Because she already has a "My Space" with friends that have "My Space" sites I'm inclined to believe she is real. Not saying that someone couldn't create all of those, but why would someone want to do that just to pull a joke on us? [smiley=nixweiss.gif] Therefore I'm taking it for what it appears, and I'm not trying to change your mind, just stating my opinion/gut feeling and by no means is it right all the time.

Gentlemen,

I hope that all of you got in some riding and didn't spend the whole day on the computer.  It was a gorgeous riding day!

I went with a friend to the grocery store.  I kept pointing out every Harley.  "There's one."  "Oh look!  A Fatboy!"  "An 883...isn't that a girl's bike?"  "I wish I could ride on the road."  "How much longer do you think it will take me to learn?"

She asked if we could talk about something else other than bikes.  I thought she was going to pop me one, lol.

I told her she's just jealous because she doesn't have a rod to ride....tee, hee!

I practiced riding the V-Rod today.  I call it "Riding The Rod."   ;)

Things went well so long as I stayed in 1st gear and traveling in a straight line, lol.

Title: Riding Agenda
Post by: blondeharleygrrl on November 26, 2006, 09:31:22 PM
Hi,

The slow speed training has been going on for two weeks, of course owning a business has interferred with practice.  I've had five lessons.  A guy friend (who isn't the best teacher) is teaching me.

I don't understand the purpose of both a hand and foot brake.  I primarily use the hand brake, and then aaply the foot brake when I'm ready to make a complete stop.

I am comfortable riding in a subdivision.....down the street, turning in cul-de-sacs, but turning right is difficult.  It feels like placing the wrong shoe on the wrong foot.  Any reason for this??

I don't yet understand RPMs and how that helps you know when to shift.

All will become much clearer during the MSF class I'm sure.  Dec. 8 - 10 I take the class.

I'm progressing as it feels comfortable at this point.

Considering my business affecting my practice schedule I doubt I'll hit the streets before my motorcycle class.   [smiley=nervous.gif]

Lol, you are funny!  I agree it would be worth a photo of newbies on one cylinder Buells all lined up side by side on a marked course with a V-Rod prepared to launch from the middle.  Honda dealer won't let me bring Dirk.  I have to learn on a Buell.  Oh, the injustice!

Thank you for taking the time to ask me about my progress.

P.S.  (No one will offend me with colorful remarks....I don't offend easy).

Sincerely, Julia

BHG,  the best thing to prepare for your motorcycle course is to forget everything everyone has told you. Go into the class with an open mind and listen to what the instructor tells you. I went with my wife for her course and she scored highest in the class. I had been riding for 30 years and she beat me [smiley=nixweiss.gif]. Any way they will teach you the correct way to ride  and how to become cooridinated on the bike. Then go buy you some cones, find a big parking lot, and practice practice practice. In no time you will get the correct feel of it.
Good luck in your class [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

That right there is the best information that has been given so far!!!! There are a lot of us with a lot of riding experience under our belts, but most of us didn't take a MSF course to learn how to ride. I would imagine the majority of us learned how to ride in a field/parking lot/etc. on someone else

This is a topic I know very well learning to ride and not listening to anyone else but the instructer.  I unfortunatly did not do this I took the class and did great at in I took the riders edge class. But I hang around people who have been riding along time and I pushed past my comfort zone and now I ride a little scared which is not good. Everyones voices in my head telling me how to ride instead of just feeling the machine and being one with it. When I do that I have a great time mostly I ride alone. I have never hurt myself or the bike but have droped the Fat Boy three times once moving.  So far I have never droped the V-rod  :)

Helen

I guess a couple of things:

1) Welcome
2) Riding a little scared is NOT a bad thing. We get scared for a reason, it's called survival.
3) Riding solo is a Good Thing to start. You're new, your who you are and a group only causes added things to worry about. (And them to worry about you as well).
4) Everyone's fallen down, the key is to be going REAL slow when you do it.
5) Group riding causes me anxiety. I know some of the folks and honestly they concern me and I keep an eye on them. I don't want to see them get tangled up w/ something and I darn sure don't want to get tangled up w/ them.
6) You will have to find out on your own but as your skill level increases so will, hopefully, your desire to push yourself and your machine a little more. Our bikes will do more than most of us will ever push them into. They can go faster, lean farther and stop quicker than most know. Eventually start heading towards those limits. It's, for some, what it's all about. For others it's the confidence to know that when needed, they have the skills to make the bike do what needs to be done.
6) My wife got her license last year and I know it can be daunting. You'll get it, you'll start to enjoy it more and you'll do it at YOUR pace, not theirs.

Hi Harley Hunks,

Lmao....If I can stop laughing at the comments between erniezap, Spiderman (Luke, I am your father), JR and Fired00d I'll be able to reply.  Whew! ;D

"I'll bet you are right-handed...."  yes, that's right!   That MSF instructor's response that turning left feels more natural because we were north of the equator is silly.

Part of my problem with taking a curve either direction is having enough throttle and balancing the V-Rod's weight.  What I fear most as a new rider is the bike's weight.  I felt it's brute strength my first riding lesson when I didn't give enough throttle up a slight incline (driveway) and the bike jack-knifed left.  The crash bar kept the bike from squashing me.  I was thrown off, but my bike and I landed in the grass and leaves.  Dirk (my bike) suffered a minor scratch to his tail light assembly.  I had a bruised shoulder...but the ego hurt more, lol!

I got right back up and practiced more.

I exercise regularly, but now weight train doing squats to build leg strength.  I am flat-footed when seated on the bike, but I can barely "walk" the bike.  My friend/instructor says when I try I do this strange thrusting movement that just should not be seen in public, lol. [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]

I am not fearful enough that it deters me.  I've gained confidence.  The MSF class will teach me better control.

I appreciate your advice about not listening to everyone's riding instruction because bad habits can be picked up.  I have several new Harley friends through the HOG Chapter and online that are eager for me to ride with them in a group.  VGirl told me that it's best to ride alone, too, in the beginning for practice.

I feel that it is safer to ride in a group.  Cars and trucks respect a group of bikes more than a single rider, I think.  What is everyone's opinion about that?

Are there different rules when riding with a group?

Have a great week!  BHG/Julia

Hi Julia,
One thing to do when you first ride in a group is to ride as close to the front of a group as possible. I know the normal tendancy is to hide in the back because you don't want to slow anyone down. If the group knows you are new to group riding they will understand and not rush you. If you are in the back the group  itcan have a tendancy to acordion up and back and you will find out that you will need to speed up and slow down alot to keep spacing. Things flow at a more even pace in the front.
A good link that has diagrams and info about group riding is here:

Title: Group and Unsafe Riding
Post by: blondeharleygrrl on November 28, 2006, 08:58:15 AM
Thank you Helen for sharing your early riding experiences.  I've often thought how I would handle dogs-at-large running into the road, or kids playing.  As I drive my car and things happen I think "Hm, how would I handle that on the bike?"  MSF class will likely shed light on safety issues.

What Helen wrote about the night riding hit a nerve.  I've ridden as passenger on Harleys at night and felt anxious...I have no plans to ride my bike at night.  A friend from TN came to visit me.  He has a $30,000 Deuce show bike.  I rode as passenger with him to the North GA mountains.  We stayed late.  We took GA 400 highway home.  He was speeding at 80 mph when suddenly we came upon plywood sheets in the road.  We went right over them with some jostling.  I was panicked.  I was squeezing the heck out of him (as passenger my "I'm scared slow down" signals are slapping lightly with the left hand or intermittent squeezing), but he gave me a head toss as if to say "we're fine" and kept going 80 mph.

I don't give in to peer pressure often.  I have many people who are eager to ride with me as soon as I get out of MSF class, but I will not ride at night or high speeds or do anything I am not ready for.

Helen, when you dropped the bike and it hit the Pumkin and then Dave yanked up the bike and made you drive it I would've cried all the way home too.  I have wondered what I'd do if I dropped the bike driving it alone in public.  A couple of people showed me techniques for lifting the bike, but I'm petite and so far can't do it alone.  If no motorist helps me, I'll likely sit on the roadside and cry.  Oh, won't I look cool in my leather chaps, Harley boots, and jacket crying like a little girl, lol.

I bought the Harley (well, you all read why in my blog about Dirk, lol) because I've always wanted my own bike, but also for socializing.  So, I will likely ride with at least one friend everytime.

"what I did was let of the brake on a incline and it just rolled under me and fell over..."  I worry about inclines and stopping on hills.  I can barely control the V-Rod's weight "walking the bike" in a circle.  I'm so glad that you mentioned it.  I need to practice.

Have a great day everyone!  Julia/BHG

HarleydudeATL...thank you for Carol's information.  I'm going to visit the site and contact her.

I thought of something silly (I'm suppose to be working, lol):

The Honda dealer told me I have to learn on a Buell during MSF class.

When I'm in class and the instructor makes this announcement I'm going to say, "That's Buell-chit!"

Ha ha!   ;D

Oooooo.....I crack myself up.

Julia welcome to the site.  Running a little behind here......been on the road.  You'll love this place and these people will definately help you spend your money.  You will soon be inflicted with a disease called OCD and maybe a couple of others. [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

I think a lot of your questions will be answered at your class........and you'll come away with many more.  But as has been suggested......forget everything that you've been told and just go with an open mind and you'll learn a lot in those few hours.

I find it very interesting (and amusing) that the Honda dealership sponsoring an MSF course uses Buell (Harley) to teach the course. [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif]

I laughed my azz off when I saw that you named your bike Dirk.......just too funny.

Post by: blondeharleygrrl on December 04, 2006, 11:10:42 AM
Hi everyone,

Helen - thanks for the Edge of India blog link.

I had no idea a person could get road rash.  I will buy chaps ASAP.

I haven't been riding much even as passenger....too cold.  I practiced with Dirk in my subdivision a couple of times.  An elder in my HOG chapter made me promise to put Dirk away until after my MSF class.

This Sunday I volunteered as a gift wrapper with the Ladies of Harley at our HOG chapter dealership.  They put me in charge of tape dispensing because my gift wrapping skill wasn't so great, lol.

Dec. 8 - 10 is my MSF class at the Honda dealership.  I'm excited, nervous, and hopeful.  They don't use Buells.  I was thinking of the Rider's Edge class that I couldn't attend because it was full.  Darn, now I can't say "Buell-chit" to the instructor.

After the class, if I pass the test, I will be licensed, woo-hoo!

Thank you for the advice!  Have a great week!  Julia

Hi everyone,

Mmmm...K, it took me twice as long to read the recent "Don't Look Down" postings thanks to Screamins' tongue wagging Avatar.  It is really a distraction.  How is a person suppose to read or learn anything?

I will try my best not to look down.  Thanks for the advice!

I've been told that the bike goes in the direction you look rather than steer.  Thank God Screamin's tongue Avatar won't be anywhere around, lol.  I hope there won't be anything shiny either.  I'm distracted by shiny objects....especially chrome!

The weather will be bitter cold Friday, but warmer Saturday and Sunday when we'll be riding during class.  It is suppose to be sunny.

I want to go to my HOG chapter's Christmas party on Dec. 16 but I have no date.   >:(  If anyone lives near Alpharetta, GA and would like to go, I'll pay for the tickets.  Lord, it's like trying to find a date for the prom or something.

Everyone have a great week!  Julia

Post by: blondeharleygrrl on December 07, 2006, 11:49:03 PM
Hi everyone,

Well, it's freezing here in GA tonight.  Below freezing.  18 degrees!  I feel like I'm back in New York.

Tomorrow night from 6 - 10 p.m. I have motorcycle class.  I'm nervous and excited.  The weekend temps will be in the mid to high 50s.  I'll dress warm.  I have 5 pairs of leather pants to choose from.  Probably wear tights or long Johns beneath.  (ok, that was likely waaaaayyyyy more info than anyone needed).

A HOG Chapter member's nephew may accompany me to the HOG Christmas party.  My no date problem may be solved.  If not, I'll go stag.

I'll keep you posted as to my progress in motorcycle class.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!  Julia

I know that I just got a "get out of jail" free card with Anne....she brought one of her Tags in for a new battery to a local jeweler...where I bought it from actually.  While there he offered to clean her engagement ring.  She let him and then she mentioned about upgrading (God help Me!).

Well, the guy must have read the Man-Law handbook, because he immediately said that it was a beutiful stone and she sould just change the setting.  16 years ago and a lot less money, I chose by quality and not multiple carat...well, that paid off in this case!

Helen,

That is an excellent philosophy when dealing with bikes (and a dangerous one when dealing with girl or boy friends), but what do you do with the old one when you're dealing with something like an engagement ring?

I've been thinking of doing something to "upgrade" my wifes ring (very high quality 3/4 carat), and can't see much sense in just throwing the old one in a jewelry box to collect dust.

Due to sentimental considerations I really don't think either of us would want to trade it or sell it, and most jewelers probably wouldn't offer anywhere near what it's really worth as a trade-in anyway.  One idea floating around in my head would be to have the existing diamond reset, with a 1/2 carat diamond of equal quality on each side of the original stone.  As a member of the fairer gender, what is your opinion of that type of upgrade versus all new and larger?  [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Jerry

Jerry, that's a PERFECT idea!  Or buy her a guard with two diamonds that will represent the same thing.  That is the entire concept of the 3-stone band past-present-future?  Don't you remember that diamond commercial from the late 80s where the husband took the wife into a deserted theatre and a movie starts playing in black-and-white and she realizes it is her wedding video and he pulls out a 3-stone band?

And don't worry, Dawg, in 16 years I'll be happy to let you go buy two more multiple carat diamonds to put on each side of this one baby!!!

Modified to add:

Oh yea, I agree with you and Helen on it being a great philosophy on bikes too!  Let me go ahead and start thinking about which two models I'd like to upgrade to and we can sit those on either side of the Vrod.  And now that we're on the subject, I may come up with a list of cars I'd like to sit on either side of the Accord now that Z3 left a spot open in the garage (and have I mentioned how much I miss that car lately)?   [smiley=trailer.gif]

Jerry, I'm with you on putting the two new ones on each side of the original.  I don't do engagement rings though, so what do I know?  The 24 year wife (now ex, of course) did not get one, as I was too poor, but wouldn't even had I been able.  Instead, got a nice estate piece that was truely one of a kind with three diamonds and two high quality rubies about 12 years in.

If/when I ever marry again...no engagement rings, just a nice band.  Spend the engagement ring money on a nice trip, and have memories.

Candy...you got the right idea, girl!!  Get a gift that keeps putting a smile on your face...that red bike is as pretty as any ruby I've ever seen!!  Parrothead, huh?  Nice tag...have seen the man a few times myself, but it's been a few years. [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif] [smiley=drink.gif]  Deadhead for me..., but now Jerry is gone and it's just not the same. :'(

Two years ago, when my husband was hinting at buying me more diamonds or larger diamonds for an anniversary coming up - 20th - I told him that I'd much rather than wearing an entire car on my hand, have a new bike, just like his.

Hmmmm...Terry maybe that is why the wifey left!  She wanted frequent baubles and you wanted estate pieces every 12 years or so!  Yes, "investments" make more sense, but women don't always make sense, now do we?  We want strong, stable, and logical men when it comes to buying houses, cars, stocks and bonds.  We want men that act more like silly, giddy, infatuated teenagers where WE are concerned!!!    [smiley=love_7.gif]

I actually understand Jerry's post and MrsWeCVO's both perfectly!  And anyone who knows me knows I was pulling the Dawg's leg...wait let me rephrase that before UK Dave gets a hold of it...I was teasing the Dawg!  It's not the size of the diamond or the amount of money that is spent, it is the thought and the effort put into the purchase that makes it sentimental!!!  That's why the Cherry with a Parrothead tag means more to her than all the diamonds in the world!

Some people think engagement rings seem vain, but having a dad that did exactly what Jerry did and bought my mom a very high quality engagement ring and matching band IN PLATINUM when he didn't have that much money makes it even more special to her.  She is a jewelry fanatic so his has bought her baubles along the way too.  They've been married 40+ years.  He also knew when to buy her "things" instead of jewelry like a bigscreen TV, a new truck, a cruise, etc.  The whole thing is figuring out what the person wants at that point in their life and filling that need.

Engagement rings aren't meant to be "practical."  They are meant to say, "D@mn, this guy sure went to a lot of trouble to buy this.  Wow!  I must be special!"  And when there's a story to it like Jerry's or Dad's or the Dawg's, it just makes the ring more valuable -- literally and figuratively!

But then again....HARLEYS are not necessarily practical either!  If we wanted practical, we'd go buy a jap bike that is half the price and more reliable!    :o  Kind of like us buying the best of the best "custom vehicle" from the MoCo and then we spend more $$$$$ to customize it!!!

I have a sticker on the back of my helmet that says "Who says that diamonds are a girl's best friend".    I'm not into diamonds.

I do when when it's a diamond-cut engine!!!!!!!!

AMEN, brother!!!  I agree with d00d.

Ok, where do you live and when is your anniversary.  I feel the diamond-commercial reenactment coming on!  I'll help you plan and organize the whole thing...
Actually I don't think it really matters what you do with your wife's old engagement ring because whatever it is I have a feeling you will make sure it is SPECIAL!!!

I've never been much of a sentimental person and was never very mushy until I found out my mom was sick and then I see them together like two kids in a candy store at every new experience they have together.  The next time I saw the Alan Jackson video "Remember When," I thought of them.  They are still broke most of the time, but they have a love that I can't explain.  They actually prefer to do everything together and when they go on trips alone with friends or family, it is all they can do to stay apart for 3 or 4 days.  It is bizarre!

So as you can see, the Dawg has a tough act to follow.  That's the reason for the BIG diamond!  He didn't want to take any chances!!!!!

Title: Motorcycle Safety Class :-(
Post by: blondeharleygrrl on December 10, 2006, 07:08:08 PM
Hi everyone,

Friday's class went well.  We had introductions, watched educational videos, and were divided into working groups to answer workbook questions.  Saturday we were on the Nighthawk 250s most of the day.  Then an hour or so of study and videos.  Sunday we were on the bikes all day except for about an hour of calssroom which included the written test.

I did really well riding both days until the test.  I had stage fright testing infront of 11 classmates and spectators.  I failed my riding test.  I failed the "S" curve that we had to make inside a box.  I went outside of the box.  (I thought thinking or being outside the box was a good thing, lol).  On another curve test I went too wide.  During the emergency stop test they said I anticipated and stopped too soon.  I had two tries.  The first time I did.  The second time my 11 classmates clapped - everyone thought I had made it.  Guess not.

I passed the written test.  That doesn't help me.  I don't get my motorcycle license at the end of the class.  I'll have to practice everything on the V-Rod and go to the DMV for both the riding and written test.

I am disappointed.  Two of my classmates also failed the riding test.   :'(

I did well riding both days.  I had stage fright testing in front of everyone.  It was timed.  My timing was off, too, which cost me points.  Grrr......

I will get a learner's permit.  I will practice and go through the DMV.

Hope all is well!  Julia

[smiley=nixweiss.gif]  Julia, first of all, I know how physically and emotionally exhausted you are, so I am very sorry to hear that you did not pass.  Did you ask your instructor how many points you failed by, cause I bet it was only one or two.  Can you take the class again in the very immediate future?  I am not a V-Rod rider, but when I have taken experienced rider classes with other V-Rod riders, the S in the box has kicked even folks with a lot of miles under their belts.  It is so much easier with the little 250 cc bikes you had at your disposal at the class.  With what you know now, you would ace the class if you could retake it.

Julia....Don't let this little setback curb your enthusiasm for your bike and riding.  Lot's of folks have failed the test and have gone on to be great and safe riders.  By way of example, I was fortunate enough to watch 2 retired motor cops from NYC fail the DMV test a couple of years ago.  I'm sure that attitude and an overactive mouth regarding 50 combined years of "real world experience" had some influence on the examiner, but both of them failed the "S" in a box as well as executing the emergency stop within the box.  Get out alone and practice, practice, practice and your insecurity about performing with a crowd will become nonexistent.

Hi everyone,

I started a new thread "Newbie Rider Fails Riding Test" under General CVO discussion.  I felt the topic no longer fit into this New Member category.

Thank you for your advice and encouragement!  I'm going out on the V-Rod today to practice.

Hugs, Julia
