2018 cvo ultra water pump wiring

Puzzled:
I am working on a buddies 2018 CVO ultra. The water pump went on it and they sold him a upgrade kit. I'm not sure what this kit is for however it isn't for his bike.  I was able to use the water pump and patch harness.  His bike has a 3 pin plug for the wp, new patch harness has a 2 pin on one end and a 4 pin on the other end at the wp. I was able to identify two of the three wires in his connector, hot (brown with a blue tracer) and ground (black). My third wire is brown with a tracer I don't recall the color.  I'm not sure if I need that wire hooked up or not. The water pump runs, if I hook the mystery wire to the hot I throw a code p2603, I have to disconnect it to clear the code

Someone mentioned in another thread that the M8 water pumps / fans vary the speed relative to temp instead of using a thermostat as on the twin cams, this may have something to do with the 3 wire setup.
