Steve joined the ranks of happy SEEG riders this evening. May God save the SEEG and the Roads it Rides On. Congratulations Steve. Best of all possible wishes for many many miles and years of enjoyment. Please keep the saddlebag pins cinched tight.
Now, however, it's time to help the man out. It looks to be a relatively stock Jalapeno. So, in no particular order, what can we suggest he just must to do it to finish getting it in riding trim?
Here are some basics to start:
Remove the anatomically tortuous seat.
Change the handlebars.
Gear drive cams.Change it to red.
Front suspension upgrade.
Change rear shocks.
That's enough to start.
Ok, all kidding aside, congratulations on the new bike Steve. It looks great. Should be a lot of fun :2vrolijk_21: .
get it home...My thoughts exactly :2vrolijk_21:
Start an HD t shirt collection.t-shirts are cheaper than chrome right :jalapeno:
Guess it is a good thing I don't have a wife. You do now it's a :jalapeno: SEEG. You will find all kind of things you will want to do to/for her just because you love her so much. :D
I won't have to spin the "Honey I know it is an expensive bike, but I won't have to do ANYTHING to it, it comes with everything." 8)
Steve
Steve, Dood has a nice set of fancy tour pak hinges he bought that he's never going to have the stones to install. You might get them cheap. That would never happen. My parents taught me you never give/sell a gift it's just not the proper thing to do. What more then likely will happen (since I'm "stoneless") is that one day I'll be around the "no-name conspirators" buy some beer, and have them assist me in the install, then we :beerchug:. :2vrolijk_21:

Hmmm, don't you go around any buses today, and for heavens sake if it storms run for cover. :huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2:
I can help with that thought!
No, No Hell No!
Can't imagine anyone liking dOOd enough to buy him hinges but he can't give them away!
Wouldn't be right!

As I stated above the hinges will not be given away or sold. They will remain in my possesion until I either get the "stones" or I'm around one of the "conspirators". I know one of them has installed several pair already, one of them has some to install on his/her tourpaks, and the last one has a leather tourpak however they are very comfortable around tools. Now the dilemma is just getting around one of those conspirators if I remain "stoneless". ;D

Steve,
Just noticed something you'll have to do when you pick the bike up.......
Go for a ride in Fla. so you can color that state in on your map. :D

Gary, does it count if the bike gets taken out of the trailer long enough just to make a circle around the truck in Georgia and Florida to get them off the map?
Gary, does it count if the bike gets taken out of the trailer long enough just to make a circle around the truck in Georgia and Florida to get them off the map?Don't see why not if he wants to go thru that trouble. :nixweiss: I was thinking he at least could take a test ride before putting it on the truck would count for Fla. Wouldn't be any different (IMO) if I were at Four Corners (UT/CO/AZ/NM) and just rode around that circle I would count all four states. :2vrolijk_21:
Guess it is a good thing I don't have a wife.

Steve, welcome to the SEEG family. We are a lovable bunch.
And we do have the best of all the CVO bikes!! :jalapeno: :2vrolijk_21:
If I test ride it in FLA that should count and if I sit on the bike in GA does that count????
Actually, we wont have ramps...but if he wants...he can sit on the bike as we cruise up I-95...get your cameras out!
Congrats fellow CVO"er :2vrolijk_21:
I like the color...same as mine and I've yet to see another anywhere I've been.. :jalapeno:

:jalapeno: Congrats Steve on the new jalapeno :jalapeno: What happened in Sedona? Bill gets a new bike a month later Steve gets a new bike :nixweiss: is it this site??? Hold on to your wallet Steve, t-shirts , chrome, GADGETS, etc... it will never stop!!! You'll enjoy every moment of it.Nope not Sedona,
Terry
PS WOOOOHOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :drink: :drink: :drink: :drink: SNAP (heard that from my niece)
... So, in no particular order, what can we suggest he just must to do it to finish getting it in riding trim?
...
Gear drive cams.
(to be almost as fast as the Honda)Change it to red....
I wonder why this is the important change? :huepfenlol2: :huepfenjump3: :bananarock:I don't remember who said it, but in Sedona on 1 of the day rides the comment was made "we look like a box of crayons going down the road"
:jalapeno: :jalapeno: :jalapeno: :jalapeno: :jalapeno: :jalapeno: :jalapeno:
Joking about change it to red. When you ride with me, we will have the Christmas palette covered.

:P
Steve
i'll give you FL. but not GA.Don't see why not. If you can count Fly-n-Rides don't see why you can't count that. :nixweiss:
hmmm if i go once around the lot on your new bike can i color in FL too? :nixweiss:

Steve
Steve,
It's hard to really answer the topic here without seeing the bike, but I can say for sure, the 05 SEEG seat has the all time most uncomfortable seat H-D ever made. The stock seat's gotta go for sure. Engine wise, I don't know what it's got for mods, but if it's bone stock, changing the intake, exhaust and tuner is well worth the money in performance gained and smiles per mile. Once that's completed, I think you'll find you'll be quite happy with the 103 and the 5-speed trans. I see no reason to spend the money to swap out the trans on this to a 6-speed. Suspension is a personal thing. You might be very happy with the stock air shocks on the rear and the front end the way it is although coming off the Magnum, I have to believe you're going to spend some time getting used to the " Harley Ride " Progressive fork springs help a lot and cost a fraction of what the Traxion Dynamics front end change out costs so that bears looking into if you want to stiffen up your front end some. That's it from me. The beauty in owning a Harley-Davidson is in making it your own. Changing this here, that there till it doesn't look like someone else's and has a personal feel to it. You've bought one of if not the best model CVO bagger ever made, so you're most of the way home already.
B B
Congrats Steve on your purchase!
The Bannana maybe the best color depending on which you own, but is definitely not the fastest color.
/and so it continues!
Well I believe Harry is trying to stir things up a bit, so it sounds like I
will have to educate him on which color is the fastest.
We all know that banana peels are very slippery and the outside of
the peel is very smooth. So the banana bikes will cut through the
wind better because of less drag ( being slippery and smoother
than the other color ). So all things being equal the banana bikes
will ALWAYS be faster. PERIOD.
Well that is the end of the lesson, class dismissed. :bananarock: :bananarock:

Call me crazy but I don't think the color of the bike has anything to do with how fast it will go.
I believe it has more to do with the skills of the rider :2vrolijk_21:
So there for the fastest color will always be the one I am on......(humble aren't I 8))

Would have like to stay longer but we had/have miles to go before we sleep...(or get home 5:30 hrs to my house now.)If plans were working like they are supposed to, you should be home now. The logistics were mind boggling, but with Bill driving and navigating, you guys tackled the drive in true CVO style. The bike looked so good in the back of Bill's HD/Ford truck. Wish we'd had more time too, but I am so happy you called us. Next time, give me a tiny bit more warning and I will cook for you. See y'all in MV in September. Steve, try to eat the add ons like an elephant. One small bite at a time. I mean, it has live this long like that, it is not going to spoil to stay like that for awhile.

The WFP Harley Hauling Company successfully completed the job....2763miles RT from My house in 66 hours...Steve, glad I could partake in the adventure. No words can describe how grateful I am to you for joining Neal & I on this crazy crazy ride.
I get home and Anne wants to take a ride...I caught myself falling asleep on the bike twice...so we stopped for lunch and I only drank Iced Tea...was better the rest of the trip.
Got home from the ride and started the 5K service to be accomplished by me...Oil Change-Completed...Transmission Fluid Change-Completes...Primary...stripped an inspection cover screw...chit! Will deal with it tomorrow...too tired right now.
Oh and Jamey/Candy, Chateau Briand sounds great to me...if Anne is with me, take a piece of shoe leather, cover it with the sauce and she will never know the difference...she does steak burnt...beyond well done. Medium Rare for me will be just fine!

Yup. Will keep in mind.so Steve, can you give us the ride report? What is better or worse than the Honda?
Just swapped out the shield tonight. Back to 12" stock.

Well got a real ride in today on it. 360 miles.Other than these small details, ain't it a sweet scooter, Steve? :) har! spyder
Sign me up for a new seat :-\
Neal helped me adjust the rider backrest forward 1 notch at Bill's suggestion.
That did help with the reach. I still think I need the bars to come back 1-2 inches towards me and then I will be more comfortable.
My biggest concern with the ergonomics so far has been a non-issue.
Tomorrow is another day and we will cross into Canada so we will see how back to back days go.

Tomorrow is another day and we will cross into Canada so we will see how back to back days go.
Steve
The difference between tomorrow and today Steve is that today you hadn't ridden 360 miles on a stock 05 SEEG seat. :PWell I know what I am in for in the seat department, I ment the back, neck & sholders after 2 full days on the road.
B B
Well I know what I am in for in the seat department, I ment the back, neck & sholders after 2 full days on the road.
Thoese were the ergonomics that kept me from doing this sooner.
When I did some test rides 2 or 3 years ago, I was in pain in under 5 miles. So 360 is a major thing for me.
Steve
C'mon Steve...you know that we did that in the morning stretches on our trips....real ride...phooey!Ok Ok you got me.
Anybody got a jel pad you can borrow. It'll put you up a bit higher, save your butt a bunch of %^*&*&^%&^*& and put you closer to the barsshort legs here.....any higher and getting my feet down could be a problem.

C'mon Steve...you know that we did that in the morning stretches on our trips....real ride...phooey!
Ok Ok you got me.
Let me start this over.
Since the bike went on the road Monday I have only done 30-40 miles per day after work.
Today I hit the road at 7:15 AM and called it a day at 6:45 PM.
This was a leasurely ride up the eastern coast of NH, ME and am now less than 5 miles from the Canadian border.
True we could do 300 before breakfast on some of our rides, but this wasn't that kinda of ride.
Steve
How many miles on the 105th SEUC so far Bill ?
B B
short legs here.....any higher and getting my feet down could be a problem.
Steve
So now we have a new subject for a CVOHarley poll.
Who has shorter legs
A) Mrs We
B) Mungam
C) Rooster
D) Squirrel
F) ?
;D ;D :D ;D ;D
B B
About 6400 after the ride up into VT and NY over the past 2 days.
Add Jester Decor to the list. We've got a lawsuit now with the city for pouring the sidewalks so close to her butt.
If Steve and I were to have legs that proportionally matched our torsos, we'd be tall.
A good seat and Steve will be flat footed.Any suggestions on a brand/model?? and all things being equal with heat preferred. :jalapeno:
You can get a lot lower and still have a great seat and when they get the neck out of the seat it makes standing a lot easier.
Any suggestions on a brand/model?? and all things being equal with heat preferred. :jalapeno:
Thanks
Limited options with heat. One of which is a Harley part. Most common among the group here is Corbin. Not universal. But most common of any other single alternative.I have seen/heard some negative feed back on Corbin as of late.....
If you do go with a Corbin you could order a model for a Road King or the SEEG specific models. We're of similar enough height and length of leg this advice is probably good. If you do order the SEEG specific seat tell them you want it with a "nose job." That's their jargon for a bit of tapering down of the seat where it crossed under the legs in front of the hips.
I have seen/heard some negative feed back on Corbin as of late.....
Is this still the case?
Thanks

If you open up the Corbin website and "build" your seat on paper, then call the 800 number and work you way through each step with the nice lady on the phone you shouldn't have any issues. I did it that way and had an excellent experience. I have the seat I wanted, it fits the bike AND more importantly Me perfectly. Just be sure you ask the order person anything you don't understand from the website and you should be good.
My $0.02

Absolutely. Any RK seat fits an 05 SEEG

I have seen/heard some negative feed back on Corbin as of late.....Steve, none of us here can tell you that you will not get the lemon one, but Jamey just got the dual tour corbin which he ordered from Jenny. If you had someone like her to fight for you, you have a bitg of a guarantee. She get's you the 20% off. If you can find a temporary seat that you can use while you sort things out, there are a ton of choices t build your seat - such as colors and skin finishes - snake, aligator, ostrich, elephant etc. Studs or no studs, stich pattens - with or without colors, on and on. I'd take my time on those choices, as for the cost of the seat, you don't want to which you had a done it different.
Is this still the case?
Thanks
Steve
Jamey got his Corbin Dual Tour from Jenny and everything came as expected, ordered and other than not getting a cover for the lower part of the tour pak, it looks fantastic. The cover ----- our fault for not knowing it was needed.
Well got a real ride in today on it. 360 miles.
Sign me up for a new seat :-\
Neal helped me adjust the rider backrest forward 1 notch at Bill's suggestion.
That did help with the reach. I still think I need the bars to come back 1-2 inches towards me and then I will be more comfortable.

Congrats on the new bike! It's a beauty.
That was one of the first things to go on the cherry, the stock handlebars. I commend Brian for riding it home from Ohio with those things. I only rode it briefly with those things and couldn't stand them. We bought the HD pull backs, just like on my street glide. Also I'm putting my mustang seat on it from the street glide. I do like the Mustang product but I am not sure if they have the heat option on their touring models.
Kathy
Congrats on the new bike! It's a beauty. Thanks Kathy

So now we have a new subject for a CVOHarley poll.Cockledoodledoooo! Ok, have you ever seen a tall rooster? I had to install the legends before my legs got any shorter. And I don't think I will be changing bikes as they keep raising the seat height and my legs aren't growing :nervous: Anyway being short does have it's advantages as I hardly ever have to duck.

I have put over 1k on this trip this week. I wussed out.
I bought a sheepskin cover this AM at the dealer for the ride home. It made a difference all day today. :jalapeno:
Tomorrow I will need to do just over 600 miles to get home by tomorrow night.
I had a mustang on my last bike but it wasn't water proof (my own fault I guess for not water proofing it).
Everytime the seat got wet, it would ooze out the stitching for a day.
Steve
Those miles add up quick don't they!Correct. Some even less so than others. The Mustang doesn't have leather so doesn't absorb except thru the stitching....even most all boat seats with cushion will absorb some. :-[ jmho. spyder
This is probably stupid of me to say but I didn't know there was such a thing as a waterproof seat.
Well I should have water proofed the stitching but didn't.
So I am home 1800 miles miles later. The sheep skin cover did the trick.
I feel like a Harley rider now. My 1st piece fell off the bike......
The shift lever stripped out 1 block from home.
I got it home in 2nd with the heel shifter.
I reversed the heel shift which I never use anyway and the bike is back on the road.
Just have to wash it before a local ride Sunday.
Steve
Steve, I too used the sheepskin on a cross country trip for comfort. The two main problems I have with them are when it rains they're a 'sponge', and they raise the seat height a bunch (any amt. is a 'bunch' to me). :drink: har! spydergot lucky, never put the rain gear on the whole trip. Did take the cover off when it did start to drizzle. I wanted it dry for the next day (today's ride home). It didn't raise me up too much, but it did make a world of difference.
Congratulation's on being inducted into the BROTHERHOOD (losing the part counts.) May the rest of your miles be trouble free my friend.
Other then the shift lever falling off...what did you think? What are your riding impressions?I enjoyed the ride. I may have rushed into this trip on it, but sometimes you just have to go for it.
Never thought to have you tighten the shift levers...even after we saw Scot go through it a month earlier.Got to wait for the paperwork to get completed.
When organizing my tool kit, I realized I had forgotten about the spare screws I once bought...With fresh ones, you can really torque them down to get you home.
Strip the inner one and use the warrantee for both!
Welcome Home
I could hear the mp3's from my zumo at 85MPH on the VTX.....
Them POS billet shift levers! ::) :sauer055: I've trashed two heel shifters on my SEEG. WTF? :confused5:
Brakes can be fixed rather easily and cheaply with different pads. Most here use Lyndall will good results. A search will reveal the part numbers you need.
Tunes . . . gotta be better than the VTX, no? ;D But $100 or so and a half hour inside the fairing putting some Hog Tunes in will take care of you there until you're ready to spend more money on the Hawg Wired components.
Do you have the OEM Dunlops on there? Try the Michelins when you wear those POS things out. I put 'em on the SEEG last fall and have been really happy with them wet and dry.
Still, what a sweet bike the SEEGs are, huh? :2vrolijk_21: :huepfenjump3: :beerchug:

Somewhere in past posts is a picture of zip ties holding my shift levers in place. Have lost at least 5 of them. Parts guys swear it is from slamming the gears with your heal. I showed him a brand new one that would not even tighten up . I had to through bolt them and install a lock nut to keep them on.
Still have the zip ties on :2vrolijk_21:
Stupid question folks......
I have a trunk light in the chop tour pack. Did that come stock on the bike or is it an aftermarket item?
Neal found an adapter on Ebay that is supposed to be plug and play between the light and the plug that give a leg with a standard 12V cig plug. This lets you charge cell phone etc inside, protected from the elements.
I bought it, only problem is the plugs don't match. The ad said HARLEY TOUR PACK 12V CHARGER ADAPTER FLHT FLT 97-08.
Thanks
Steve
with the new LED light...there are pigtails for the optional saddle bag lights... that connector looks like it will fit those ( i think) maybe :P
It'd have to fit in the interconnect before it X's off to the tour pak light and saddlebag lights. It's still 12v unswitched there; hot all the time. The connectors outboard to the saddlebag lights themselves would only be hot for the timed period when switched on.
true ..but why would you care if it were hot all the time?
If you're charging a phone you'd want it hot at least longer than the five minutes that the bag lights would stay on.
Trunk is included, and the light staying on is a recall item. tell the dealer you can't see if it was but the tourpak is getting very warm sometimes in that area.
The picture you posted is not good enough to look at the connectors.
If you're charging a phone you'd want it hot at least longer than the five minutes that the bag lights would stay on.
I don't suppose there is a "master list" for each bike with all the recalls....I know I could try to read 4 years worth of posts to try and catch everything, but for a newbie (who is not a newbie) it would be helpful.
Cause we don't know what we don't know ya know 8)
Too bad ya don't know someone who knows who is close, ya know :nixweiss:
isnt there a website where you can just type in the VIN?the Compensator nut?????
( i have no idea what it is of course, but i believe it exists)
only two that I am aware of are the tourpak light and the Compensator nut
the Compensator nut?????
Thanks
Steve
The comp nut is just a TSB.
Circut breaker?? Or was that squared away before '05?
The comp nut is just a TSB.do you have 1 of those for the light?
do you have 1 of those for the light?

Steve - not a TSB, it is a recall. Stop by a dealer and let them know your light is staying on at times and you heard there is a problem with them.
Ruh roh, me too...........
You never caught that with the 'nana? It's not just a replacement it's an actual upgrade Rog. You'll get the LED light with the timeout feature built in. Ask them if they'll charge you the difference and fix you up with three light kit that replaces the one in the tour pak and adds the pair that shine down in the saddlebags.
I'll have to check both these bikes. Not sure what I do or don't have. That's the trouble with more bikes than houses I guess.
Did you guys cover the Magic Button recall too? i may have skipped that one

I argued with the service writer that there was a recall. He claimed there was not.
It is his job to know that type of stuff....
We argued some more and he brought up a web site that showed by my vin it didn't qualify for any known recalls.
If my gold key # is any basis on when it was built, it was built in the final 300-400 bikes that year and any known issues would have been cut into the prodution line.......
I hope.
I was also told I would have to pay to have them check the comp nut. If I did nothing and it became a problem it would be covered.... >:(
Steve
Welcome to wonderful world of HD dealers Steve! :nixweiss:Oh yeah forgot to mention the leaking head gasket that needs to be replaced as well.....

Steve, if memory serves that light was a running change during the model year. Could be mistaken about that but it rings true. You can tell what you've got very easily though. If the light in the tour pak is a plastic housing with an incandescent bulb inside of it you've got the "old" type. If it's a flat LED you've got the new.Well that's what they said, but I figured for piece of mind it was worth checking out.
As for the compensator, I think the new torque spec was released during the 05 model year there also. So if you're late year production you might be ok there also. For what it's worth that one does give you real warning. You hear and feel something different before it gets bad enough to really harm anything. With the time and miles on your bike it's probably a fair guess that if it was going to come loose it probably already would have by now also.
Find a new dealer?Don't they all suck?
In 05 the SEEGs were produced by colour. First was the teal, then cherry and finally the banana's. There is no way a teal was anywhere near the end of the production run. My cherry (built in February) had the old light. From what I've read here, there and elsewhere, I believe the change to the LED was with the banana's. The other thing to watch for on your bike other than the compensator nut is the fuel fitting where the line attaches at the tank. It was changed mid January 2005 during the production of the cherry bikes. Went from a pressed fitting to a clamp. Yes, the old ones may leak (hence the update). That is some good to know info on these bikes. Thanks :2vrolijk_21:

No...........not all, but some folks get better service at a particular dealer than others do from the same dealer. Maybe time to stike up a relationship with one that comes recommended. :nixweiss:I took it where neal takes his.....

have you plugged you vin into h-d.com to see if there are any recalls you qualify for?I think so, and if I was in the correct place, then no I don't.
Oh yeah forgot to mention the leaking head gasket that needs to be replaced as well.....
the one I took pictures of when you picked it up?That is the 1.
:o :nixweiss:
Also, You do NOT have the LED version...I unplugged it just in case before loading it in the truck...didn't want to kill your battery...
That is the 1.
Thanks
Steve
Sorry...I just saw the residue but am not that much of an expert to know...As long as it is covered, it doesn't matter. You guys did point it out to me so I was aware of it before I bought it.
Sorry Steve to bump in on your thread. You need to trade your non LED light for the LED light, your cost or theirs, or just remove it. It is only a matter of time before it burns out or actually up! We heard of one of our CVO brothers having a huge fire in his tour pak.
My question is on the comp nut. Since my engine was rebuilt - can I assume that I got a new comp nut which hopefully would have been tightened correctly?
Since my engine was rebuilt - can I assume that I got a new comp nut which hopefully would have been tightened correctly?
I dont get how the hell yours isnt covered under this recall..... very confusing..its obviously the bad light... WTF?
I don't remember for sure. Was this an actual recall? My recollection was that it was just a TSB to be used in case of failure.
don't remember for sure.. . I do remember that mine was the 1st one my dealer had done..... but in any case...if you walk into a dealer and say 'this thing stays on or is hot" and it is quite obviously the old one... how can they say it aint covered?
It's been awhile since Steve bought his Jalepeno I'd be interested to hear what he's changed/added in the past couple monthsI have put over 5k on the SEEG since 7/4/08. I haven't done much to it yet. (lack of funds) Still haven't got the old bike sold yet. I did the sharpie mod and added the sheep skin cover to the seat. I added the matching King Tour Pack but that is it so far.
Also, how he feels about riding H-D as opposed to Honda. He put a lot of miles on that Magnum

Titanium plates on the floor boards :2vrolijk_21:

I wanted a set of those when I got the RK. Was told they cause all kinds of ignition problems & also that they are VERY unreliable. Never bought a set so never found out for myself.
