Well I should have water proofed the stitching but didn't.

So I am home 1800 miles miles later.  The sheep skin cover did the trick.

I feel like a Harley rider now.  My 1st piece fell off the bike......
The shift lever stripped out 1 block from home.
I got it home in 2nd with the heel shifter.

I reversed the heel shift which I never use anyway and the bike is back on the road.
Just have to wash it before a local ride Sunday.

Steve

Somewhere in past posts is a picture of zip ties holding my shift levers in place. Have lost at least 5 of them. Parts guys swear it is from slamming the gears with your heal. I showed him a brand new one that would not even tighten up . I had to through bolt them and install a lock nut to keep them on.

Still have the zip ties on :2vrolijk_21:

Thanks to your zip tie idea, I knew what to do last year when mine failed in KC.  In my case, it was the one on the inside, not the levers that kept slipping.

Thanks!

Metz 880's are another excellent choice over stock. Very happy with mine, on my second Metz rear now.

Took my heel shifter off the first month I had the bike, never had a problem with the front shifter.

Just a thought, depending on what kind of helmet you ride with mostly. If I were to do it again I would go for some kind of helmet stereo driven by my iPod or XM (through my GPS). The factory radio has limited FM range - reception, and it really is sub standard compared to a XM or mp3 input.

I did the Hawg Wired, 4 channels, with the speakers. It is a major improvement, but I really don't think the cost was justified. And I will probably still change out my radio to get "4" channels. The SEEG has a 2 channel radio.

Sounds like your still having though, enjoy it, mine is still my favorite bike.

Stupid question folks......

I have a trunk light in the chop tour pack.  Did that come stock on the bike or is it an aftermarket item?

Neal found an adapter on Ebay that is supposed to be plug and play between the light and the plug that give a leg with a standard 12V cig plug.  This lets you charge cell phone etc inside, protected from the elements.
I bought it, only problem is the plugs don't match.  The ad said HARLEY TOUR PACK 12V CHARGER ADAPTER FLHT FLT 97-08.

Thanks
Steve

My stock (chopped) tour pak came w/ the old style light (mercury switch). After lots of complaints H. D. came out w/ the LED one. If you talked real nice to the service dept. and told them old one was staying on they replaced it w/ the new style.

Trunk is included, and the light staying on is a recall item. tell the dealer you can't see if it was but the tourpak is getting very warm sometimes in that area.

The picture you posted is not good enough to look at the connectors.

with the new LED light...there are pigtails for the optional saddle bag lights...  that connector looks like it will fit those ( i think) maybe  :P

It'd have to fit in the interconnect before it X's off to the tour pak light and saddlebag lights.  It's still 12v unswitched there; hot all the time.  The connectors outboard to the saddlebag lights themselves would only be hot for the timed period when switched on.

true ..but why would you care if it were hot all the time?

If you're charging a phone you'd want it hot at least longer than the five minutes that the bag lights would stay on.

I don't suppose there is a "master list" for each bike with all the recalls....I know I could try to read 4 years worth of posts to try and catch everything, but for a newbie (who is not a newbie) it would be helpful.

I don't remember, are the timers in the individual lights or are the bag lights timed off the main light.

isnt there a website where you can just type in the VIN?

( i have no idea what it is of course, but i believe it exists)

only two that I am aware of are the tourpak light and the Compensator nut
