Need part # for Tourpack emblem
« on: October 03, 2005, 09:39:11 PM »

Does anybody have a CVO specific part manual and can get me the part # for the tourpack emblem on the 05's SEEG?  I was told is a CVO only part, can anybody verify this.  Is this on of those parts that you need to give your vin # to order and give the old part back if you order a new one?  Thanks in advance.  Lat's Roll

Yes, it is a CVO-specific, protected part.  I tried to order one for my '04, but couldn't.  Twolane turned me on to one that was on eBay and I scored it that way.  Not sure if you'd have to turn one in to get one, but it is protected.

Isn't that something.  You can't buy it at the dealer being a harley/ cvo owner but probaly that same dealer has one for sale on ebay.  That sucks.  Let's Roll

Lets Roll the easiest way to get one (may not be the most honest) is to say it feel off so you don't have it to turn in.  You should have no problem since you have an 05 and the VIN #.

When my tour pak got stolen earlier in the year the first asked for the old emblem.  When reminded that that was not an option they actually asked for a copy of the police report.  So if you tell them it just blew off they're probably going to ask for a signed affidavit witnessed by Snow White and all seven dwarfs.

I know about the police report stuff.  My derby cover on my 03 heritage got scratch and I tryied and order one.  I wanted to keep the old one and hang it in the garage, but they wanted it so I pretty much demolished it, then said here you go.  Let's Roll

I'd like to get one of these emblems, too.

I asked some of the guys up in Reno if this emblem was available.

Thanks Ernie, for the PM on this thread!  And thanks for remembering that it was me that asked you about this emblem. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

FYI, when I ordered my replacement tour pack (from my crash) they didnt ask for the old one, and it came installed on my new tour pack (2004).  I still have my old tour pack top with the emblem.

Is the emblem the same as the one pictured above here?  I think you'll find the emblems supplied on the 04 paks are a generic emblem rather than the "Screamin Eagle" emblem that was stock with the 05 bikes.

It's a VIN restricted part.  You can't just order one.  Have to have an 05 bike and usually will get asked for the old one to be returned.  Someone we know here picked one up on eBay a few months ago though.  Just have to keep an eye out and hope to score.

When I was ordering parts after a whole tour pak got stolen they actually asked for a police report to verify the incident.  I don't think they trust us very much on this kind of stuff  [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Okay, let's get to the meat of the thing...  We're here to help each other right?...   So...  send me the part number, etc, find out where ya want to order it from,  I'll order it against my bike's Vin #, and send it to ya.  Postage shouldn't be too bad on a part that size...  Will Chicago or Surdyke give us the discount on it?  Send me a PM and I'll take care of ya... 8-)

Breeze, it's worth a shot.  But if past experience is anything to go by it'll be no joy.  103 was interested in one of these a year or so ago.  My dealer wouldn't let me buy one without turning in the old damaged one.  When I needed to order one later after having a tour pak stolen they actually asked for a police report to verify the loss.

Good luck  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Breeze, get two if you can.  The one I got off eBay is not quite as nice as I'd like.  The chrome doesn't fully cover the ends of the lettering on the "Screamin' Eagle Electra Glide" script.  I think it may have been a quality reject that someone ended up getting ahold of.

The only dealer that I know of that offers the 10% discount to HOG members (that aren't a member of their local chapter) is Kutter HD in Janesville WI. Out of all the other dealerships I've been to, nobody else offered it, unless I smooothed 'em over a little... and that always didn't work.

Check out Chicago HD @ 1-888-338-6868 for ANY of your accessories you are looking for. 20% off, no sales tax, free shipping and a minimal handling charge.
Depending on what you are ordering, the shipping time can be a burden. Supply and demand I guess...
I've ordered from them numerous times and they never messed up an order. It's definately worth looking into.

Take Care,

Grover

Thanks Grover, I have been using Chic. H-D for the past couple of years and you are right, they are great folks.  What got my attention was that my dealer announced a few years back that H-D would not allow dealers to offer a 10% discount to HOG members any longer. It now appears it was not H-D, just the dealer's idea and blamed it on H-D.
I think aussie has it right, "stealers". ;D

Nope, I talked to our dealership owner, my girl does advertising business with him, and yes they offer 10% off to their local chapter members. I didn't have much use for the local chapter but a few of the girls friends are in it and now I am in need of some new parts for the new ride so I guess I join up. I am looking at Chicago HD and Surdykes for most purchases though as 20% plus saving the sales tax is way better.

Pic attached, I ordered it with some other items from Chicago HD and got everything but. bastids that little medallion on the top of the tour pack says "Screamin Eagle  Electra Glide" in a really cool script. I have a closeup of it on my work computer but have a month off.

Having recently added a tourpak to my bike I can add that the emblem that goes on the stock ElectraGlide Classic costs $7.00. That screamin eagle emblem will cost you $60.00 if you can get it. I settled for the stock
item....

I know, what a screw job!! I ordered the orange/black for my '04SEEG. Paid the overpriced cost for the damn SE chopped tour pak and you'd think they would at least put the SE plate on it instead of the USA plate that comes on all the standard issue tour paks >:(

I'm in discussions with my dealers warranty guy about this issue. He says he will try what he can...We'll see. I might just have a custom one made on a cnc machine for more of a personal touch.

C'mon guys, there are now three threads just in this section all asking the same question at the same time.  Scan the threads just a bit.  Prior to either of a couple of recent bumps in this thread and another late this evening the part number you're looking for had been posted a few hours ago in yet another thread in this same section of the site:

Well......damn.  I got the run around at my dealer too.  He will sell me a new one for 60 bucks, but he wants the old one back. (restricted part number)   [smiley=oops.gif]
For the 60 bucks HD wants, I would head to the nearest bead store, and ask one of the hobby folks there to make a cloissonne plate to match for a lot less bucks...  It's supposed to be easy to do, and since it doesn't really need to be flexible, that type of product should work just fine...

Sorry.  I failed.  My deepest humility is tendered to those afflicted by my ineffectiveness.... :-[

Good effort Coolbreeze! We won't hold it against you.
It's pretty nice of HD to let us put up with paint issues, cheaper crank bearings etc. But when we want a limited piece for our bikes it's always the good old Hundred Dollar motto! All it is; Is free advertising for them anyways. Well if I don't get anywhere with them, I just might have my own custom plate made with something along the lines of... J, hope your experience turns out to be easier than mine was.  Early last summer I actually did have a tour pak stolen.  In placing the order first the shop ordering the parts got the order bounced for a request to have the old emblem returned.  When they were told the original had been stolen Harley P&A then requested a police report to verify the theft.

The MoCo may be willing to build more and more CVO bikes each year and lessen any sense of exclusivity via raw numbers; but they're still moderately serious about people cloning their own through contraband parts.

So, what your saying is, they dont want to sell these because they dont want someone to get there hands on one and make a copy? That is so stupid it probably is true. Dont go after the wrongdoers, penalize joe lunchpail by not letting him honestly get one with his hardearned cash that he wants to spend at his local harley dealer. Make it so he has to buy one from the black market. God, its so stupid it has to be it! HD couldnt get laid in whorehouse wiht a fistfull of hundreds! They have fallen blindly into this goldmine and continue to make mistakes. Dont get me started, lucky I wouldnt ride anything else, and havent since the 70's!

Owner, I believe that's it exactly.  That rationale is the only thing that makes sense (in its own weird sort of way).  A standard little emblem on the back fender is less than ten bucks.  But that little emblem on the back fender of the 04 SEEGs and (I believe) your 06 is a CVO only piece, is restricted, and sells for $50.00.  Not because it's producton costs are more.  But because it's basically an excise tax that, along with the restriction, is intended to make it more difficult for someone to accurately clone their own SE bike.  That tour pak emblem is less than $10 (if I remember correctly) for the standard emblem.  The CVO emblem is over $60.  Same deal.  I guess they figure that making some weird mix and match availability of the tins and body parts isn't enough (some you can buy without restriction and some you can't).  They've got to get hinky with dinky stuff too.

I dont see why not? Everything else is made there. I might be getting one after all. I'll probably end up with 5 of them with all the different ways I've tried ordering them. But thats OK, I'll sell them for cost to someone here.

But you'll still be asked to supply a VIN for an 05 bike to prove you would've had it to begin with.  At least I was when my tour pak got stolen.  Even with the stolen tour pak and the resultant inability to return the missing emblem as they wanted they still requested a copy of the police report to prove it had been stolen.

ok, not to be silly, but the vin number seems to be not so hard to get........

Call me!   But seriously, Wait till I get my significant other one.......  No really, don't silly people post way too much info on that eBay site?  I am kinda in cheek joking, but, seriously,  doesn't that kind of hard fact get posted?  I'd grap onto that.  I've seen a whole poll on the UCSE about nothing about this info.  If I was seriously in need or lust as the case may be for something, it can't be that hard......    My husband has got some of these kinda things just cause he is a nice guy and the parts person sees a sale and does what has to be done...... others want to play by the rules without exception.    I don't want to ruin a good thing in a public forum..... think about it and contact someone who is legit in your need and work it out..... just a suggestion.

A new thought on this...... I lost my key lock for one of my saddle bags.  It was keyed of course, to to the other saddle bag and tour  pak. I don't know why it fell out or where.  Tried to retrace tracks, but comeon......... So I order new lock,   I post such loss here, and wise men say..... this should not fall out so covered by warrenty...... makes sense to me so I mention it as the bike is in for some kinda warranty work at a HD service center.  I had already ordered the lock so somehow the parts dept talks to the service dept and the lock is installed...... again..... on my bike.... and guess... it is not cheap.  First of all, I'm p**ssed it falls out, but.... OK stuff happens... but I buy the part, no one talks to me and the part is installed, and seems like it takes about four hours to install said part....... yes not so happy, but the GREAT SERVICE MANAGER OF RICHMOND HD, says, your right,..... no charge for install of replacement saddlebige lock.  The great manager point out that the not so nice of our group might ask for free replacement parts ..... just cause under warrenty.... I don't know what happened to my lock?  In the sun I guess?  But he came through for me.  His question makes sense.  I mean, I could loos my .............. fill in the blanks.  I am glad they trusted me enought to know, I was not trying to get over..................  [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]

My dealer had a used 05' on the sales floor . They said the emblem was lost or stolen out of the stoor. When the bike sold they sold me the emblem......it's that simple, or that complex......But I HAVE IT NOW !!!!!! 8-)

The warranty guy at my dealership told me that on the protected items, they have to send the old one back in an alotted time frame or they will get a hefty fine from the MoCo. But I'm still trying...

http://www.zanottimotor.com/

Zanotti gives 20% which, depending on cost of shipping vs value of item, may be attractive

Cheers

Usually you dont get a discount on painted parts. Check with them first of course, but I have never found one to give the discount on painted parts.

WOAH, 10% discount for HOG members? Our dealers cut that out years ago  :'(, I thought that was all dealers. Was it just my dealer that said it was all dealers? Anyone else still have dealers that offer discount for HOG members?

When did Chicago Harley drop from 20% back to 10%?

Actually.....  just now went to check their website.  Still showing the 20% discount they've offered for such a long time.

I have purchased thousand of dollars of various accessories from Chicago HD over the past 5 years. I will NO LONGER EVER purchase from them again. They are extremely slow shippers and my last order took over 6 weeks and 4 phone calls by me to get the order shipped for very standard stuff. I prefer Hales' HD in Mansfield, OH. Nice folks and much better service at 20% MSRP.

Same problem here, I was due a credit for a part damaged in shipping and never got it.  Got a replacement and they charged me for it too!
