Replacing Cyl/Head Bolts?
« on: October 17, 2018, 04:27:24 PM »

If I have a Twin Cam with rusted cylinder/head bolts, can I remove one and then re-torque the new one and then move to the next one?  This would be for the two next to the spark plug.

I don't want to loosen them all up and then have to do all new gaskets.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Also, I would put some anti-seize on the threads and the surface where they mate to the head.
(The TQ readings will be more accurate)

Here are the instructions in the SM, use these. Use oil under the head. The degree method is based on that amount of friction.

Ya just need to make sure you lubricate them with something (and everything is clean). Anti seize is very good
for the threads. You can use just about anything for the bolt tops, oil, light grease, anti-seize, whatever. As long as everything
is clean you should be fine.

The 1/4 turn method removes some of the friction 'variable' (as opposed to the straight torque wrench method). Cleanliness
is paramount either way.

Thank you guys, great information.

I've copied the manual page into my project folder.

Have a great weekend.
