Not a great way to end the year
« on: January 27, 2018, 06:49:23 PM »

Well, 2 days after Christmas I was off to meet a friend for lunch. Not far from home someone decided not to look both directions pulled out right in front of me. I didn't have a chance in hell doing about 40 miles per hour with the brakes locked up.  I hit the rear quarter of a small SUV.  Landed up with Compound break left femur. Compound break right humerus. Right tibia fracture and three left toes fractured plus a Broken nose.  It was cold that morning so I had my heavy leather on and winter gloves on Plus half helmet. Helmet looks like hell glad I had it on.  Left knee skin was de-gloved but that was it, very little road rash.  Harley is totalled with 32k worth of damage. I have a picture of my femur hanging out of my leg 3 inches. Did nine days in the hospital and I'm now just over three weeks in the rehabilitation center. The accident happened in front of the gas station. So I actually have surveillance video of the accident. Watching the video of surreal, no stunt double needed. The bitch ever came to a complete stop and just came out into the street.  Recovery has been tough, it could have been worse. As of right now not looking to get another Harley, I think I'm done. Going to really miss that bike.

Sorry for your accident. Just be prayerfully THANKFUL that you are still here & can talk about it. bikes can be replaced, living people, once they're gone, they're gone.you don't have to ride to be apart of this group. Best wishes to you & praying for a full recovery. Take care

Get well buddy!  Hopefully you'll heal to the point that it will not have any on going issues and hopefully, she had insurance.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune, accident , and your injuries. Good to know that you are on the way to recovery. As many of us have been down and survived and returned to riding. I hope you continue to be a part of this site, even our GTG's have become motorcycle optional. Best of luck on your recovery.

Glad you're alive and on the mend.  Hope you change your mind about gettin' back in the saddle!  Phucking idiots in these cages!  There should be some type of MC safety and awareness questions and training on all driving licenses and renewals.  Every phucking accident I've witnessed in my life, that included a cage, the excuse is always, "I just didn't see him."  No, you didn't, 'cause you weren't looking for a MC.  You were looking for a car or a P/U, or phucking with your cell phone.  Phucking idiots.  I chase them down, and talk pure chit to them, man, woman, or teenager.  So do most of my riding buds.  I've even seen some of the idiots treated like the victims in this State and VA.  If we ain't dumped or injured in the incident, we ought to chase everyone of 'em down, jerk them out of their cage, and slap the piss out of 'em.  Phucking idiots.  There endeth the lesson.  Later--HUBBARD

im not really a believer in the more motos on the road, the better.  if you have to ride - then ride.  if you dont have to, then dont.  if its not a sickness you cant cure, then why try to rationalize it?

WTF?

Sorry to hear, but glad you’re in rehab and hopping for a speedy recovery. I also was in an accident. Broken left arm, right leg and nose, had a 3/4 helmet on but no face shield hence the broken nose. Still riding and being as careful as I can but you never can tell what a cage may do. It’s a chance we all take and only you can decide down the road if you ever feel like ridding again.

WTF?

Musta heard you, Chuck, cause that comment has been removed.

Mr. Eagle, I pray your recovery is swift and complete and that the inattentive person operating that vehicle had insurance and, hopefully, learned from this experience as well. I've been riding for over 45 years now and while I had my bad accident toward the first of my "career", I'm glad I got back on and didn't abandon the sport. I'm not sure at my current age that I would return if sustaining the same injuries you have. However, I would like to think I would. At least once healed, throwing a leg over one and riding around the parking lot just so I could say "see, still here"

Whatever you decide for your riding (or not) future, glad you are above ground to tell the tale... :2vrolijk_21:

Sorry to hear all this and I hope you recover quickly and fully!  The decision to ride or not is tough. I have known people that when they rode they were so nervous it wasn't enjoyable any more. I know it takes time but that is something each of has to decide.  Either way you go be safe!
