Flush Front Axle
« on: January 27, 2006, 10:57:52 PM »

When I replaced my wrecked 03 SERK with Gertie who is morphing into Elvis, it came with a flush front axle (no nuts, no caps) Love the look of it, but since I'm gonna change out the wheels this weekend, I checked through the paperwork the previous owner gave me. Nothing in there about this set-up. I believe he said it's a LandMark. Does anyone know anything about this ? If you've got one could you tell me if there tech paper that comes in the pkging is available on-line somewhere. Being the shade-tree mechanic that I am I subscribe to the "when all else fails, read the directions" school of wrenching. Well if all else fails here, I don't have any directions. Don't think it's gonna be a big deal, but you know the bitch is in the details  ;)

Well it's not a LandMark cause they don't make one, but it couldn't have been easier. Me an SB did the wheel swap and the flush front axle was easier than stock. Drop the nuts on the right side clamp. flush end cap comes off since it seats with an o-ring and is pressure fit. Big nut is exposed that is part of the shaft, pull the shaft, drop wheel, insert wheel (this is where brake rotors and belt pulleys on all your wheels makes life easy)  push shaft back through tighten down (the left side cap is evidently internally threaded and tapered) Put the right side cap and nuts back on tighten and you're done. 20 minutes start to finish of which we spent 10 examining the axle. Looks so clean and when we went to get my paint, Bob Mooreland's (land speed record holder) shop is next door. SB went over there and ordered one for around a Benjamin. PM him for the name of the MFGR since I can't remember.

That's the one I bought.  Haven't gotten it yet,  but I'm more excited than Christmas morning.......You guys gotta remember,  I'm a simple guy.....not as flush as SPIDERMAN, so if I treat myself to a new part that costs only a Benjamin.....I'm stylin'............

Holly crap Naitram,  I haven't seen one of those since I got married.   I'm rolling pennies these days to get my goodies (pennies are one cent pieces $.01 USD for those of you over the puddle).
Cheers!!!

Well now all we need is a good supply of rag paper,  and nice color printer and we're in business.........how many pennies is that gonna take.  After that axle......I'm a little light for a while.
