Yeah, it's not a big upgrade nor a huge retro.  But it's still an improvement and it does stop just a little better.  It also looks better too (and we know how important that is  ;D ).

Chrome brakes came off the Road Glide and Brembos went on.  Some old (new to me) Lyndall rotors and a set of Brembos that were scored cheap used and broken down for powder coating then reassembled with new seals.  The powder is something called Illusion Malbec (sic?) that is a great match to the Midnight Red on the old SERG.  In the right light you can see the powder has a bit more flake in it than the Midnight Red does.  But it's a really good match nonetheless.  The calipers proved a good test for this powder too.  Have some other parts off to get done now that I know the color match is good.

Also, have to forgive the rotor bolts in the pictures.  All I had hear to finish a reassembly this afternoon.  The counterbore on these rotors is about .030 smaller than the hole on every other rotor I had around and all the stock rotor bolts I had wouldn't fit in the hole.  So later will be taking some nice high strength 12 points over to a buddy's machine shop and using his lathe to cut their flange OD down to .560".  Wasn't going to let that stop me from getting it all buttoned back up this afternoon though.  Too easy to change the bolts on the bike later  ;D .

Oh yeah, click the pictures and they'll get even (bigger) better looking  :drink: .

Ok, that's all.  Rode the Road King yesterday so it's this one's turn today.  Going to ride it to dinner.   Somewhere.  Have to decide the destination on the way.

Thanks guys.  Appreciate it!

Took almost 80 miles to get to a spot that's 20 miles away for dinner (just happens that way sometimes).  Then took almost 30 to get home.  While at dinner checked the site from the phone and I think the take off brake parts are sold too.  That's just a good afternoon's ride.

Oh yeah, and the new brakes work awesome.  It's been awhile since did one of these quickie Brembo upgrades so hadn't noticed the direct before and after for awhile.  Forgot that their really is a difference you notice before and after.

Looks good.  Works well.  Gotta love it.  :2vrolijk_21:

The calipers look very good and I have wanted a set of those rotors for a long time. Just to cheap. Good job!

I lucked out on the rotors.  A guy I know here locally bought them quite awhile ago.  Ran them for two weeks and didn't like how they "behaved" when coming to a stop.  Of course how they behaved was exactly how they were supposed to.  Slightly different feel and definitely a different noise.  He pulled them off and they've been sitting since.

Then a few weeks ago he asked for some help working on his Road Glide.  I spent the better part of a rainy weekend farting around in my shop messing with his bike.  Payment was the rotors  :pineapple: .

Think I screwed up with the new brakes on the Road Glide.  The rotor and caliper package now arguably (ok... really) is better looking than the brake package on the Road King.  That could piss the Road King off.

I know better than to make either think I'm playing favorites.  The Road King has never yet found reason to act like a bitch.  Yet.  If she notices I'll come home soon from a ride and, just sitting there alone, she'll have puked out a piston or something.  I'm a little afraid now.

The attention to detail is a good thing. May I leave my bike with ya for awhile?

Sure you can. It wouldn't be the first fight to come visit here and it won't be the last.

Have a rear caliper bracket and spacer at powder coaters right now getting done to match the front. It will replace the black one that is currently installed.

I'm getting ready to do this same conversion on my 01.

Already got the calipers and the rear bracket.

Looking for a nice set of 07 Street Glide wheels locally so I dont have to pay for the shipping... (or 08's but then I have to do bearings... )

Its either 08's and bearings or 07's and rotors... lose lose...  :(

If you go the route that has you needing rotors you'll probably spend just a little more overall (getting some nice rotors).  But you'll get to choose the rotors separately so will get to select something you really like.

^that sounded really good in my head--who knows if it works out that way in real life^

Having to deal with such a localized market for easy shipping has to put a crimp in the cheap parts market.  And decent chrome shops on your particular island if you do find something worth using?

Chrome shops? what are those?  :soapbox:

Nope, none of those here either... this rock (or gathering of rocks has some serious disadvantages)

Afraid of that.  The state's environmental regs being as stiff or even stiffer than most not surprised you don't have any options.  Chrome shops are fewer and fewer everywhere in the lower 48 too.  Oh well, sooner or later the wheel Fairy will find something for you.

Thats why PC is a popular choice among local builders.

The salt air is harsh enough but add the fact no local chrome shops and that makes it even worse.

Cheap chrome rears its ugly head really fast!

twolane, I stated elsewhere it has more to do with the heavy metals in the discharge to the wastewater system that is a problem.

If you could come up with a way to pre-treat prior to disposal it could still be viable.

(Or consume as much of the metal in solution during the electro process there isnt any left to travel downstream to the treatment facilities) I suppose a similar opposing electrical ion positive/negative action may be able to do what is needed.

If not the most modern technology is membrane filtration but for heavy metals it may be a cost prohibitive process unless you use it for an entire industrial process for pre-treatment.

The good thing is the discharge is near ZERO, the bad thing is it isnt cheap.
