The Daytona Beach Bike Week Rally started as the Daytona 200 Race on January 24, 1937.  This first race was a 3.2 mile beach and pavement course.  It was won by Ed Kretz from California riding an Indian motorcycle with an average speed of 73.34 mph.

This year race took a break from 1942 to 1947 due to World War II.  During the years off, an unofficial event was still taking place commonly called Bike Week.

In 1947 the official race resumed and gained in popularity.  The event was then promoted by the late William France Sr., co-founder of NASCAR.

This year marked the 70th year of this event and this thread is dedicated to the time honored history of this event.

What do we know about this fellow…Ed Kretz?

Who was her?

Where did he come from?

What made him tick?

Why did he care?

If you are seeking that heritage I am not in a position to provide it however I respect those that are seeking it!

If that is the case…”This ‘Thread’ Ain’t For You!”

This thread will be about my experience of Daytona Beach Bike Week and that means it’s all about the B’s!  I will attempt to cover them in the next few chapters.

Each journey to Daytona Beach requires me to travel South in most cases so with that being stated Bruce Rossmeyer’s in Ormond Beach is the first  stop.

Normally this area would be filled with bikes for sale in year’s past.  What’s up and/or down?

BUT…They do have two of them..

When I took the picture of the price the sales person said…”so you like the bike?”  I said, “Well I’d like to get one sold at that price.”  His response was “well if you had 10,000+ people going through your garage everyday you could get that price too!”

Everything begins and ends with attitude…I’m just sayin’….
