McMinnville Air Museum with the Roosters
« on: August 27, 2008, 12:51:29 AM »

The Roosters and I took an afternoon trip to the Air Museum. Terry found a trainer plane to test out. This Air museum is the home of the Spruce Goose.

It was a fun day, rooftop dining at the brew pub (McMenamins) in McMinnville. Evergreen Aviation Museum was fun, John & Terry were like little boys, they had computers on tables with joy sticks so you could try your hand at flying, not sure I would fly with those two. They got up in the air and were flying, their loops and rolls were funny then came the crash.
Terry use to work for Del Smith (owner of Evergreen) back in the 70's doing helicopter logging. He had fun looking at the old helicopters, and telling John some of the stories. It was a fun day, and good news for John that morning when he found out he was getting a new motor, he was doing the happy dance when he got off the phone.

Been there several times and what a cool place.  Our HOG chapter has even done a ride out to the Museum.  There is another museum in Tillamook Oregon where they housed the Blimps during WWII and it is full of old WWII aircraft.  I like the WWII fighters there at Evergreen to, one is a British Spitfire.
That's interesting he worked for Evergreen. I worked for their competition Columbia Helicopters as an A&P mechanic out of Portland doing logging several years ago and used to watch the Evergreen sky-cranes flying in their loads of logs.   ;D

John wanted to know what the big deal was with Tillamook Cheese Factory  :nixweiss:, some things we just take for granted.

The big deal with always stopping at the Tillamook cheese factor is for the Ice Cream, love their Wild MT Huckleberry.
Those WWII fighters have always been my favorite.  My step father flew the P-38 and P-51 Mustang over Europe during WWII and he had some of the most interesting stories to tell, especially when he was shot down over France and how he escaped being captured.  He's now in a care facility in Wilsonville OR with Alzheimer, very sad as he does not remember those times any longer.

Got a call from Leo (geezerglide) last night. Looks like him and his group about seven might be coming down to visit the Evergreen museum in a few days so we will go up and have a visit with them. Can't wait to get some more pics to share.  :2vrolijk_21: :bananarock: :pepper: :pineapple: :apple: :jalapeno:
