I know at least one person on this site has cut the taps off top and bottom (top tap has the sticker on it) to expose more of the element. Probably helps a little. Some like the look.

I cheated on that. I flipped the cover upside down to hide the sticker. Whenever I pick it up from service the sticker is back on top. I know they're pulling it off to check things anyway. There's no difference in the top and bottom tabs.
I do like the thought of trimming them off though for that cleaner look.

We bore the stock backing plate for the 58 and larger t/b . Simple to do and very cost effective .
Steve, what do you charge to bore out the stock backing plate to 58mm?

I love the way mine turned out.  Gotten a lot of double takes on it.

It does look really good that way. How did you go about doing it?

The dealership did it when they built the motor but I know how I would have done it.

I guess they sent it to a machine shop to have it cut but that's way over-complicating it. I'd have probably used some tape to get a line close to where it had to be and carefully went at it with a cutoff. Then finished it gingerly on a belt sander to get it flat.

They did smooth the edges before re-powdercoating it so the finished product looks factory.

I did it mostly because of the larger filter but it would work either way. Looks pretty mean I think.

Where did they get the filter from? Do you know the part number? Love the look of it.

Tilley Harley makes a kit. Call em up and ask to speak to the service guys.

It's definitely not cheap and I'm not sure it's really worth it. But it looks sweet.

Iirc it's around 240 bucks for the filter and necessary hardware.

Imo it looks kind of silly unless you mill the cover too but it's not necessary.

Keep in mind that it does stick out an extra inch.

i quit running a air cleaner cover 5 years ago.. run a k&n element raw. stainless button head to plug the hole

I've ridden through hard rain and it runs fine.

i know a nice cover looks nice. but a bare harley engine looks nice.

as i get older i really don't give a rats ass what folks think it looks like. i want a harley engine, wheels, a windshield to make it easier on my older self and a nice comfy seat - and the sidecar that keeps my wifes back from barking. [and my worn out ankle from barking when i try and stop.... '

probably keep this bike till i can't ride any more - but cute do dads don't go back on when they break any more.

Brilliant!  Sticker is now hidden on the bottom. Thanks for the tip!
