Yup, it sure looks empty.

I've been informed that Deeley (H-D Canada) has confirmed that there will be no dealership in Toronto in the forseeable future.

That's just screwed up.  No way in hell that a modern Western nation's largest city with a metro population around, what, 5.5 million (?) can't make a Harley dealership go.  Does that speak to the "enhanced" prices that are due to Deeley with Toronto being so close to the international border?  Or is something else going on?

The "Deeley Tax" has long been a bone of contention here, stuff that can cost you south of the border one price can cost us double here... it must be similar to what our friends in Europe experience, but at least there is some justification for the distance it must travel there first.

Others hit the nail on the head when relaying Toronto's attitude towards the customer, but I can't help to think the way Deeley behaves had a lot to do with it as well.

I believe it has more to do with going too big without the business to support it.

For one reason or another they just couldn't bring in the customer base required to support a 60,000 square foot, very expensive building that was "done up to the nines"... No doubt about it, they did everything 1st class except the running of a business.  That building was beautiful throughout with nothing done on the cheap.  From what I heard at any given point in their new location they had over $1 Million in Motorclothes in stock!  That all cost money and there just wasn't enough coming in to support it.

I was told the long before they moved from their Front Street location that they were in financial trouble and put on C.O.D. with their suppliers, including Deeley.  Apparently when a customer required a part to be installed on their bike when it was being serviced, the customer had to pay upfront for the part so TOHD had the money to buy it from Deeley or wherever the part was ordered from.

I don't know how true that is, but if it was it is one heck of a tough way to run a business.

It's quite simply MoCo (and in your case Deeley, in our case HD Europe) pure greed, I think Murff.  The prices here - and perhaps there in Canada - are simply unbelievable.  Items are already seriously overpriced at US prices and we are asked to pay so much more that in terms of justifying it by distance travelled, they could have their own luxury round-the-world cruise for the extra!

A couple of examples:

58260-09CZA outer batwing fairing.  US price (with discount, of course) $589.60.  UK price $1667.50 at current exchange rate, inc tax.
91951-07 LH mirror. US price $102.40.  UK price $289.62 (For ONE freakin' mirror!!!!)

And one that really takes the biscuit.  The little chrome strip round the front edge of HDI bikes.  Just a little chrome strip with sticky tape on it. Pretty plain, and not very big.

59280-02 Fender Tip, HDI.  US Price $120 (bad enough!!!!)  UK price $339.38 (WTF???  $340 for a little chrome strip????  Are they crazy??)

I'd love to know what you are being asked to pay for these part #s in Canada, Murff.

Mighty expensive. The prices in Korea are right at double that of the US prices. Thankfully I don't have to pay them. Man you guys are dedicated.

I refuse to pay UK prices too, Skillet. The prices here are an insult to my intelligence, and I've vowed no more bikes, no more parts at the current prices.  >:(

Here you go Jim...

Canadian prices including 13% (GST + PST) tax in Ontario

58260-09CZA  $983.04
91951-07   $198.82
59280-02   $233.85

More than U.S. but less than U.K. pricing.

The best has to be tires... I can spend $880 (tax in) at a US dealer and equip mine AND my wife's Ultras with new tires or
I can spend $866.14 (tax in) to do one bike in Ontario.  So for $13.85 more I get TWO for the price of ONE!   :o

BTW, lately the CND$ has been slightly above the US$ so there's no exchange to be concerned with.

Naturally when we require new tires we plan for a road trip south of the border.  :2vrolijk_21:

Thanks Grizz.  The old "Deeley Tax" is plainly enough to make ol' Trev a very wealthy man!  (Even taking the 13% tax - ours is 20% - off).  Lucky you are close enough to head south though. :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21:

Tyres here (thought you Canadians would spell it like we do!) are crazy money too, as you might guess.

I like getting the HD catalogue from Deeley.....then I go to the US and buy stuff. I use my local dealer for trying things on for size....won't use their service dept either. But, then my local dealer's shop is incompetent and always defensive about their incompetence.

europe is farther, parts go from china to the us, then to europe - full circle !

ya thats why they cost so much - and some parts must go to canada via europe & they average the price out

Toronto Harley Davidson. This is in Toronto Canada, our biggest, newest HD dealer. Only 2 years in it's new location. The owner stopped paying his bills and stopped paying Harley for there bikes!!  So HD pulled the owners dealer licence to sell HD's. Lucky we have a few more dealers with in 30 min or so. Cheers.

Valparaiso, IN Harley (http://www.hdvalpo.com/) just hired the old owner of Crete, IL Harley onto their sales team.  Crete was one of the dealers that had to close in the IL area in Oct of 2010.  He was close to retirement, but apparently not close enough.
