Title: Another 2017 CVO limited 131 upgrade started LOL
Post by: Iceyone on February 05, 2020, 09:13:27 AM
Here is the current sheet, running the HD torque cam, 64mm Throttle body, 5.5 injectors and the upgraded max flow SE intake, V&H pipes, with a TTS turner, currently has 112.69 HP and 125.11 Tq. still thinking about going with a different cam but, think i should be able to get into the 140's with this combo :-) and yep, the bike pulls great as is, cant wait to see what it does, kit is in and they start it next Tuesday.

Do you have the run the headpipe that comes with the 131" kit. Seems like it would be restricted since has the Cat in it. I'm thinking about doing the 131" kit but using my headpipe that's full flowing. My warranty is about up anyways...

If you're not worried about warranty you can use whatever head pipe, tuner or cam you want.

So Iceyone your planning on using the HD torque cam with the 131 kit?  If so I'd like to see those dyno numbers cause I have a torque cam on the self and was thinking of doing that myself.

no, i already had the torque cam installed, pulled it out and went with the one in the kit. I DID NOT use the head pipe that came with the kit, running the V&H power duel head pipe, it goes on the dyno next friday 3/6/2020

So you used the kit as it was shipped but a different head pipe? What tuner did you use? In your first post you mentioned a TTS, did you stay with that tuner? Really good numbers.
If HD ever gets things figured out I might be able to get my 131 installed. At this point my dealer has been waiting on 3 kits since early February with no ship date and they have sold 2 more kits since then.
Enjoy the ride..

I will certainly use the cylinders and pistons. The rest will be a kit made up of my ported heads and my choice of cams, TB etc.
We must not loose sight of what is reasonable and customary for performance builds.
A 131 m8 with just a proper cam choice, not harley, can make in the mid 130s easily for horsepower and torque with a very strong early torque curve.
1hp/cu in, always done easily, 1.1 a little more costly, 1.2 still easily done at a higher cost. All of these numbers can be done with longevity of the motor and rideability still comfortable and long. How much $$ do you want to add over stock?

HD would not give me dealer a ship date. It started with February 25th ship date then moved to two dates in March. Now they are only saying late April.

What changed from the initial go at it?
Can we see the next dyno?

I will want to keep my warranty and use HD parts except for Fullsac head pipe but the numbers are disappointing. My HD with the 117 kit and torque 285 cam, Fullsac head pipe and fullsac 2" baffles ( using what was then a legal HD Race Tuner) 117hp and 126TQ). I would think a 4 valve head alone would achieve much better numbers not to mention the added cubic inches and factory stated increased compression ration. Not trying to be buzz kill what what's up with he m-8?

Exactly
And to run the kit you have to use the cat pipe from HD. Break out and use other pipes and now its a custom tune and no warranty.

You said

True but then you plug it up intake and especially exhaust and not give it the compression needed plus use a less than ideal cam what happens?
You get the sum of the parts and tune!

The 131 kits I have seen are coming out very close to 123 HP and 138 torque with a nice torque curve.  That is using all Harley parts and keeping the warranty.  Its really nice torque for a guy that wants warranty for two years and to be able to ride cross country.

I have seen a couple with other head pips or tunes.  HP did not break 129 and torque is in mid to upper 140's.  But no warranty.

I used the pistons, jugs and cam, i kept the stock heads (sort of a test case for the dealer) kept it under warranty, and pulled a 128 hp and 149 tq, these numbers beat the bike he did befor e me, the other bike used the whole kit except head pipe, he used a 2-1 bassani that actually robbed it of power, he pulled 135hp and 146 tq, i now have the fulsac CVO 2.5 exhaust in my hand and were gonna see if it does make a difference

Just curious...How much torque can the stock belt withstand?

talking to the rep at bikeweek he said the stock headpipe and the kit headpipe are physically exactly the same. they just stuffed more cat material in the kit one to meet EPA regulations. use your stock one it will flow better?? if anyone is trying to keep warranty

I asked that question when my neighbor was talking about supercharging his twin cam and they were expecting somewhere near 200hp. They determined that at about 175hp or more you need to convert to chain drive. I do not need that that much hp. But....

Good news the dealer received and installed my kit. I picked it up April 18th and just finished the 500 mile break-in yesterday. So far I’m very happy with everything. I’ll change the oil one night this week and be ready to test it more on Saturday. The installing dealer does not have a dyno so no numbers to share yet, but as soon as this Covid stuff is over I’ll get it tuned. I will be using the HD SEPST for now.
Recap, after a 60 day wait, it was worth it. I’m very very happy... :bananarock:

HP isn't going to break a belt.  Torque will

Several years ago I rode a Boss Hoss that had belt drive. I would think the torque from a V-8 would be much more than any street V-twin could muster.
