Make my Tourpak outlet constant power
« on: April 09, 2020, 02:52:37 AM »

Hi guys, I've been told that there's a non-evasive way of making my tourpak outlet constant power that way when I leave my helmet with my Sena unit in there while I'm at dinner or hanging out it would be charging. How or can anyone point out how to do this without cutting or splicing. Looking to plug and play and I'm ok with making plugs and spinning i have the tool to do it if need be.

You might consider a portable charge/power pack that has multiple ports.

Plug the power pack into the tourpack’s power point.

Then plug you helmet into the power pack when you put your helmet in the tour pack.

If the outlet goes dead when you turn off the ignition, the two easiest options are ...

1)  A jumper cable from your helmet to your battery tender plug.

2)  Re-wire the power receptacle directly to the battery. (Using an inline fuse of course.)

This is exactly what I have done. I installed the Antigravity XP - 10 - HD Velcro to side of tourpak.   Also ran a cable from tour pack to the battery for those times when I might need a jumpstart. The jumpstart battery has two USB charge ports that I used to charge the headsets. And it also comes with a cigarette lighter adapter charge cable which charges up when the bike is running.

I bought an 18" battery tender cable extension, plugged it in and ran it into my left saddle bag. Then put a Y splitter on that and installed the Harley powerport into one plug and the other plug is used to plug in the battery tender. When I am riding I plug in the battery tender USB plug in and have usb power for charging. Looks better than having the tender cable hanging out or removing the seat to plug it in. Just flip the lid open and done. Suppose it could work on the tourpak as well, but my tourpak is a quick disconnect so I never bothered.

Hey Threephase, thanks for the idea,  it sounds extremely easy my only question to that is aren't the Rushmore saddlebags a lot tighter fitting that you can't run wires into them ? I was able to do that with my pre-rushmore saddlebags but the new ones seem so tight that they feel like they'll cut a wire.

I figured out what size hole was needed for the end of the connector to go thru, used a nice sharp bit and a slow drill speed to make the hole. A 3/16" pilot hole would be best. Then I got a grommet from Home Depot that would fit in that hole and seals the wire. Then a small dab of black RTV silicone for good measure on the inside (or outside if you prefer).
