This is the power wire.
The feed comes from the accessory switch on the fairing. I bought an extra one and installed it in the blank hole. It is wired "hot" all the time. My Garmin will shut off when power is removed (can be overridden). This way I can shut down the bike and leave the GPS running. And/or shut the gps off with a switch.
The wire is long enough that I just pull it through the grommet when I want to use it. My GPS has a Li Ion battery, so I don't need power to it all the time.

Thanks a bunch Porthole.........I received the Tech Mount. I see that you had to drill some holes in it. I was wondering about that.
I have two different Garmin bike cradles so it's just a matter of deciding which one that I want to go with.
Can you tell me a little more about the Li Ion battery? Do you know if it will work with the Street Pilot 2730?

That's a great mounting setup. Where did you find the marine GPS cradle. I am looking for a nice cradle for a gramin 2720 that has a good latch mechanism to hold it on firmly. The whole setup I got from Ram looks flimsy.

Try a Touratech. They mount up to a ram mount system. I got a chrome Ram Mount from these folks. Not the cheapest but I had everything in a couple of days.

Forgot to add that the Touratech is designed for off roading. The 26xx or 27xx locks into the cradle. It's not going anywhere.

The Garmin 276/376 units are combo units, streets and marine. The package I bought came with all the mounts and power supplies I could need, except for the motorcycle specific power cord.
The unit has the roads and maps and then with a button activation I can switch it to a marine plotter with charts and bottom sounder.
FYI - maps are for roads, charts are for water.

Here's another source for mounting solutions, and other accesories. Use one of their mounts for radar detector/GPS and decided to order another to be dedicated to GPS for longer trips. Some are pricey, but are literally bulletproof designs. Pic shows one with Valentine 1 radar detector, but GPS mount just bolts to the same plate. One recessed bolt secures it to the handlebar and Garmin already has a screw lock on their mounting cradle. Have to take some pics of mine and post em..........

As far the operation. When it is in the "street mode" it works probably like most of the other typical GPS units. Shows you the detailed maps, and a variety of other "places" like fuel (have used that feature more then once), lodging etc. And you can look up addresses.
The driving directions are pretty good too.
When you switch to "marine mode" it acts just like a plotter with detailed charts.
Like I said before, I switch it back and forth between my truck, the bike, my whaler and any other vehicle I get in or boat I my drive. Heck, I even had it in the window of a 777 coming back from Vegas in February, that was cool. You can see pics of it on my whaler here

The plotter functions just like any of the other bigger plotters, just remember you are using a small screen. It has all the typical plot and navigate functions along with all the alarms.
The sounder requires a "black box" option. You can see that mounted under the whaler console here.

The transducer options are all the same, transom mount, through plastic or bronze etc. Actually, the black box is compatible with most Garmin plotters.
When the sounder is active (sorry no pictures, but I could snap a "demo mode" pic if you like), the screen switches to a "color video" mode, which can also be split with the chart. It works pretty good for what it is. I don't think I would use it as my primary on my big boat, as the unit is compact, but I don't hesitate to take it with me on the big boat. The sounder works just like any other color video sounder would.
All in all, when in either the chart plotter or Street mod the unit functions just like a dedicated unit.
