We've never tried it with a shorty, but it should do just fine.  I've always felt IF I'm going to ride with a lid, then it should be a full face helmet.  The only shorty I've even ridden with was her's when we went into Missouri to meet 2lane on our way to Cripple Creek.  I wasn't taking a lid and she liek sto have both options, so while in MO I rode hers.   I don't think it will be a problem though.  They (Autocom) stresses getting the ear speakers right up next to your ear for best performance.  I've found that as long as the output canals roughly lined up with my ear canal it didn't make ANY difference how close to my ear things were (at least at Harley speeds!!!)
