LED tri bar light stays on
« on: January 02, 2012, 04:23:55 PM »

Yesterday my tail/brake light started to flicker then got stuck on full bright (tail/stop) it is the tri bar LED style, on a 07 FXSTSSE. I have 12vdc at the blue wire and 6vdc on the red wire until I activate either brake switch then there is 12vdc on the red wire. My guess is that the tri bar PCB is fried closed and the brake switches are working. Of course my manuals are 60 miles away at this point. Just wondering if someone has experience with this.

Hey ConeyIsland, I see this is your first post on the site.  Just want to say welcome from the wonderful state of Tennessee!  Why don't you go to the new members thread and introduce yourself.  Lots of nice folks with tons of info to share.

I had mine tri- bar replace twice,  cus the brake light flickered on, then burnt permanently until it stopped working at all. I later found out before the 3rd blew up that this was due to water ingress, so make sure you seal around the wiring harness connector under the seat.

I took the light apart and cleaned everything with contact cleaner. Prior to reassembly, I ran a bead of silicone sealant around the housing and put dielectric "goo" on the connector. So far so good even in the rain.
