Title: Royal Enfields new scoot
Post by: rganz on January 24, 2009, 12:21:22 AM
Canadian Biker-March Issue has a article on these bikes. Does anyone have anyexperience with them.
I don't mind the look of the classic.
http://www.royalenfield.com/bullet-classic/bulletclassic.html (http://www.royalenfield.com/bullet-classic/bulletclassic.html)

Article says they are 100 years old. 2009 has a new motor a 500cc pushrod motor that lives with the gearbox in one casing and has a 27hp 30 fp torque screamer. Kind of a cool retro look .

They even have it in black

Maybe a nice looking bike for someone else.  Not exactly what I would want to ride.

In the new model, the Bullets raw torque has been technically harnessed by equipping the UCE with elctronic fuel injection (EFI) technology to result in enhanced combustion efficiency, so as to comply with Euro111 norms.

The EFI power train with extra power and torque provide for the dual ease n comfort of cruising at 70MPH on highways.

technically harnessed thats a new spin on the theme restricted

You know it's a bike with its legacy held in Brit bikes.  It's got an onboard tool box...

Aren't these the motorcycles Sears and Roebuck used to sell out of their catalogs in the sixties? I remember a neighbored friend that bugged his dad for a motorcycle so he could ride with a group of us on Hodaka's. His dad finally got him motorbike out of the Sears catalog. The first time he went riding with us and on the first jump, he came down and both foot pegs broke right of the frame and his new shiny Sears bike was bent to hell. Needles to say,, he never rode with us again.  :P :P

RE's were originally English bikes. Here's some info on past Sears offerings.

A lil on Royal Enfield.

Royal Enfield was the brand of the Enfield Cycle Company, an English engineering company. Most famous for producing motorcycles, they also produced bicycles, lawnmowers, stationary engines, and even rifle parts for the Royal Small Arms Factory in Enfield Lock. This legacy of weapons manufacture is reflected in the logo, a cannon, and their motto "Made like a gun, goes like a bullet". It also enabled the use of the brand name Royal Enfield from 1890.

In 1955 Enfield of India started assembling Bullet motorcycles under licence from UK components, and by 1962 were manufacturing complete bikes. The original Redditch, Worcestershire-based company dissolved in 1970, but Enfield of India, based in Chennai, continued, and bought the rights to the Royal Enfield name in 1995. Royal Enfield production continues, and now Royal Enfield is considered the oldest motorcycle model in the world still in production and Bullet is the longest production run model.

I don't think RE ever made bikes for Sears though. ;)

Asking these guys what they think of a non 45 degree vtwin will only bring grief! They can't see past the HD logo.
I had a bit of experience with the bike back 40 years or so. Twolaner said it best ,Brit bike typical oil leaker but back then if you had one you were the chit. It would make a nice putt around bike if you like retro. :2vrolijk_21:

That's exactly why I'm going the 900cc vertical twin Triumph Thruxton route! Old and new Brit technology combined, for the ole Bit look and feel, without the oil leaks and Lucas electrical problems! ;) :2vrolijk_21:

I still think back very fondly of a few Brit bikes I had.  You did bring your tools.  They did break or need regular maintenance.  And they certainly leaked.  But they were cool.  And they endeared, even if maybe just in hindsight.

Gotta give ya props on the research for the Sears Allstate stuff.....   BUT one important group was left out of the mix for the Sears product line.

They had their own brand of Cushman scooter that were of course Allstate Scooters.  Not sure of the exact years, but I owned a '59 Sears/Cushman and I think they did that from the mid '50s maybe until Cushman closed up in '65.

The bottom line was this, Sears would private label anything they could to make money.  The Henry J car of the late '40s and early '50s was private labeled the Allstate, so two wheelers were not the only thing you could by with a motor in it from Sears.

My family has a 1923 Sears catalog that even has housed listed for sale.

Thanks for the memories of the Allstate two wheelers.

 :)  :)  :)

Affectionately known as the Puch (pronounced "pooch").....my worthless ex-brother-in-law had one back in the day.  Fairly decent bike for the times...unlike the worthless ex-brother-in-law.

My folks had two when I was a kid. The ones they had were actually mopeds. It was the first motorized bike I ever rode.

There was a article in Easyrider last year about the movie Riding Solo to the Top of the World. It was about a Indian photographer who rode a RE to top of the Himalayas. I sent away for it and have watched it several times. Great flick and a great bike to ride when your life depends on it. Watch this flick and make up your own mind on the reliability of this motorcycle.  Doc

Once you change over the charging system then the scoot becomes a decent scoot.

Friend of mine has one with the hack and I enjoy the heck out of riding that bike :2vrolijk_21: around town....it is not a bike to go cross country with......unless you have 2 months to do so :coolblue:
