Hard to say what caused the shots to be fired but this is exactly why you can't ride aggressively in traffic(cut off lanes/pass in limited space etc) or drive a cage aggressively.

Current issue in the northwest involves suspected MC member that was self policing a print ad place in a Motorcycle Publication, beat the crap out of a guy that sells ads but didn't sell the one that caused the problem.

I think it was the Mike's Hard Lemonade the made reference to the MC and an alternate lifestyle.

If someone wants to fire em off at an angel; I just don't want to be around 'cause there won't be any winners. As for the idiots on the road, there's a time for patience and a time for just getting the hell down the road post haste. Hard to imagine a time when I'm going to take on a cage.

Back to the original story about the shooting in CT, here's more news.  Looks like the police now think it wasn't road rage but intentional from the Outlaws motorcycle gang.  May be more nasty stuff coming.  If you live in CT don't drive around in a green Blazer/Tahoe.  Excerpt:

"Before Carrol left the scene, however, he told emergency responders that he and his friend were riding their motorcycles southbound when they allegedly passed a car several times carrying rival Outlaws

Big Daddy pegged it........

Just read an article in which they interviewed the HA's involved. They said there were 4 Outlaws in the SUV which opened fire on them.

This is not good for anyone.  [smiley=nervous.gif]

And I suspect the fued will get worse before it gets better. I for one will be extra cautious around any events I attend this year. Especially if colors are flying might be a good idea to avoid the whole scene. JMHO

latest off the wire police wont cofirm outlaw activity

Police say slain motorcyclist was top-ranking Hells Angel

By Cara Rubinsky, Associated Press Writer  |  April 3, 2006

NEW HAVEN, Conn. --A motorcyclist shot to death on Interstate 95 Sunday was a leader in the Connecticut chapter of the Hells Angels and had been monitored by local and federal authorities after serving time in federal prison, police said.

Roger Mariani was one of 37 Hells Angels and associates from Connecticut arrested in the mid-1980s as part of a nationwide crackdown that resulted in 125 arrests and the seizure of $2 million worth of drugs. He was released from prison in 1995, according to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons.

Mariani, 61, of Stratford, was killed and motorcyclist Paul Carrol, 37, of Bridgeport, was injured Sunday afternoon when someone opened fire on I-95 in West Haven.

Mariani was shot in the chest but managed to pull his motorcycle to the side of the road. The medical examiner's office on Monday ruled his death a homicide.

State police were still looking Monday for a GMC sport-utility vehicle with Florida plates. They believe four men were inside. They were also looking into the possibility that the shootings occurred during an altercation between the motorcyclists, who were riding in a group, and the people in the SUV.

Specialists in gang activity are reviewing the case. Though police officials are aware of ongoing disputes between the Hells Angels and other Connecticut motorcycle gangs, they said they haven't seen evidence tying the shooting to any of those clashes.

"Rivalries among motorcycle gangs are nothing new," said Col. Edward Lynch, commander of the state police. "We're always listening for that, but we're cautious about saying that's the case here because you don't want to jump to a conclusion."

Gang and organized crime experts have noticed an increase in tensions recently.

"There seemed to be an escalating conflict between the Angels and some of the other outlaw biker groups, namely the Outlaws and Diablos," said Stamford Police Capt. Richard Conklin, who oversees the city's organized crime unit.

Conklin described Mariani as a club leader whose stature had increased in recent years.

Conklin said his department kept tabs on Mariani when he worked for Fritz's Harley-Davidson in Stamford.

Fritz Blau, who owns the dealership, said Mariani worked there for about six years but left two years ago to become a loan officer.

Blau said he knew Mariani had been involved with the Hells Angels but said he believed it was a condition of Mariani's parole that he not associate with the group. Blau said Mariani's parole ended around the time he left the dealership.

"The guy had personality, so he had friends," Blau said. "He was just funny, he made you laugh. It's kind of shocking that he's not around anymore. People are going to miss him."

Public Safety Commissioner Leonard Boyle said law enforcement agencies are keeping tabs on the situation in case tensions escalate.

"Any time a member of an organization like this is murdered, there's always a concern that it is a harbinger of future events and that's something we are watching," he said.

Dozens of squad cars respond to melee
Police say only two injured, none arrested.

JEFF PARROTT
Tribune Staff Writer

Area police broke up a large fight Saturday between rival motorcycle gangs at the St. Joseph County 4-H Fairgrounds.

Dozens of people, some wielding weapons, were involved in the melee that erupted shortly after noon, police said. The bikers, including those wearing "Outlaw" and "Hells Angels" gang jackets from Chicago, Detroit and Indianapolis, were attending a motorcycle swap meet.

More than 30 police cars from South Bend, St. Joseph County and Mishawaka responded to the scene. Two bikers suffered injuries that required medical attention but were not life-threatening, said St. Joseph County police spokeswoman Jaimee Thirion.

A county officer, Cpl. Kent Wickham, suffered minor injuries in a traffic accident on his way to the fairgrounds, Thirion said.

After bringing the disturbance under control, police canceled the remainder of the event and ordered those attending to leave.

No arrests were made, police said.

Dan Hardman, who with his wife had set up a booth to sell parts, described a chaotic scene.

"They were using bats, (motorcycle) forks, hammers on each other, with no regard for anyone around them, even children," said Hardman, who saw an 8-month-old child in the booth next to his.

Hardman, a member of a Christian biker ministry called Bikers at the Crossing, said most of the time, biking is a peaceful "family thing."

This turned out to be anything but. He said a police account that only two people were injured was "baloney."

"They were using fenders on top of heads, it was horrible," he said.

Witness Bob Candler, of Niles, agreed.

"It was pretty ugly," said Candler. "I seen a guy getting hit in the head with a hammer, he kept waling on him."

Hardman voiced sharp criticism for the security at the event and its promoters, Paragon Promotions of Portage, Mich.

"You don't allow colors to mix," Hardman said, referring to the fact that rival gang members were allowed to wear their gang symbols. "There should have been a lot more security. There were two (security guards), and they ran like girls."

Paragon Promotions officials did not return a call seeking comment Saturday.

An employee of Freedom Cycle Inc., 6210 U.S. 31 South, who declined to give his name, said the Michiana area has long been the "turf" of three gangs: the Hells Angels, Iron Cats and Devils Diciples. The gangs might have considered it poor "etiquette" when the Outlaws showed up without having first cleared it with the gangs.

"It was the Angels and the Outlaws in the same place, period. That's all you need to know," said the employee, who did not attend the event but heard about it from people who did. "It's a club mentality, like one baseball team against another, or just like two high schools. There's been an ongoing dispute between the two clubs forever."

Candler said the Outlaws should have been arrested. He found it odd that so many, at least 75, would come all the way from Indianapolis just for a small swap meet.

"They were not there for a good time," Candler said. "I think they were there looking for trouble."

Dan Brouillette, of Goshen, said he arrived shortly after police and was never allowed in. He had hoped to trade a motorcycle for some parts.

He arrived to see men attempting to leave the fairgrounds on their motorcycles, only to be detained by police officers pointing shotguns at them, Brouillete said.

"The next thing I know it's a giant episode of 'Cops,' " he said. "It's the most excitement I've seen in a long time, so I'm glad I came out."

But Candler was less flippant.

"It was sickening," he said, recalling how a young woman turned to him and his girlfriend as the fighting broke out. "She was pretty frightened. She said, 'Don't leave me.' "

Either that or he's a prospect for another m/c.  I'm surprised the paper even let them print both first and last name PLUS city!!  What a fool!!   [smiley=confused5.gif]

I saw that guy Fritz Blau on the news last nite. A huge fire in Stamford might have burned down one of his places. It was an old warehouse that housed some antiques and I beleive Fritz owns a shop in there.Speculation was saying that the fire started in the bike shop.I don't think it was related but definately coincidental for sure.

Does Fritz own the HD shop too?  Sounds like too much coincidence in the warehouse situation.

Yea, its Fritz's HD of Stamford.

The Fed's shut down the shop in Bellingham, WA for a day when they arrested a bunch of Banditos and said that the International President actually was an owner in the shop.

He's in the Federal lock up in Seattle awaiting trial.

Interesting thread   My opinion and it's just that, my opinion, is that these things have a way of sucking in innocent bystanders  I'm sure some of you out there have support items for various organizations. I've seen folks get jacked up during heavy times for stuff like that.I'm not advocating any club or taking anyone's side on this or any other incident which follows. Just wanted to post a reminder that sometimes folks can find themselves in the middle of something just by virtue of something as innocent as a sticker on their bike or a T-shirt they bought. Normally nobody cares, but when sides start getting chosen, everything gets looked at.

Hells Angels members arrested with weapons, list of rivals

April 4, 2006

ENFIELD, Conn. --Two men arrested Sunday night with weapons in their car may have been Hells Angels gang members looking to retaliate for the shooting of a gang leader on Interstate 95 earlier in the day, police said.

Enfield Police Chief Carl Sferrazza told the Journal Inquirer of Manchester that Trevor Delaware, 35, and Jeffrey Richard, 39 of Andover were arrested about six hours after the shooting. They appeared to be Hells Angels and may have been looking for members of the Outlaw Motorcycle Club, which has chapters in Enfield and Waterbury, he said.

They were picked up driving a car with plates stolen from East Haven, police said. Inside police found gloves and masks, a softball bat, a bent golf club, a wooden club, a ball-peen hammer, and a loaded handgun licensed to Richard.

Sferrazza said police also found part of a police gang training manual that identified 10 Outlaws.

"There is certainly the possibility here, not the absolute certainty, but certainly the probability that these individuals were here to cause some harm perhaps to some of the Outlaw members in town," Sferrazza said. "We're not sure if that was the case or not, but it's a logical probability based on what happened earlier."

State police continued their search Tuesday for the shooter or shooters who killed Roger Mariani of Stratford and injured Paul Carrol of Bridgeport on I-95. The two were part of a group of Hells Angels riding together through West Haven on Sunday afternoon.

State police have said they do not yet know the motive for the shooting and have no evidence that it was linked to a gang rivalry.

"We're still investigating, still following leads, still looking for witnesses" said Sgt. J. Paul Vance, state police spokesman. "All the cards are still on the table. We're looking at everything."

Police were looking for a green GMC sport-utility vehicle with Florida plates. They believe four men were inside. They were also looking into the possibility that the shootings occurred during an altercation between the motorcyclists and the people in the SUV.

Waterbury attorney Leonard Crone, who has represented several Outlaws, said he doesn't know of any members who have been questioned by law enforcement about the I-95 shooting.

"They don't have any knowledge of anybody from their organization being involved in an assault or anything that happened on that highway that day," he said, adding that he was unaware of the Enfield incident.

Police said Delaware and Richard, who were stopped for a seat belt violation, told police they were going to visit a friend whom they would not identify.

Both were released on bond and scheduled to appear in court April 11.
