I agree with many comments above in that we all can play a "what if" game and invent the perfect scenario to back up our personal beliefs. There are many variables in every shooting situation that no one tactic will work in all cases. You do have to have a variety of skills and tactics to be able to defend yourself and your family not only physically but legally and on some level morally.
I try to not "put all my eggs in one basket" by relying on just one aspect like sound, what if the homeowner is drunk or sleepy and slurs his words, there is a nearby noise like a train/airplane etc. or the suspicious person (who may be a friend or family member) is drunk/ sleepy or wearing headphones etc.
In states where there is no "stand your ground law" you may be questioned about the suspect and how did you know if he had the physical ability to cause serious harm or death to you or a family member? I know the old adage about "better to be tried by twelve then carried by six" but think about the legal defense if you could say I did what I could to identify the threat and not just shoot in the dark......especially if the "intruder" was a family member or friend.

Being from a stand your ground state and having a few incidents this year and discussing these incidents with  very experienced policeman friends, the concensus still is:

If you are involved in a shooting;

1. Immediately surrender (point to it) the weapon open chambered with the chamber clear and clip removed.

2. State that you were in fear of your life.

3. Advise the officers that you will be happy to talk with them through your attorney. But until then you have nothing else to say.

4. WITH Permission or when asked: Provide them with your Id And your Concealed Weapons Permit.

Sit down where they direct and wait for their directions.

Happy New Year!!

A clip is used for revolvers, and Pistol use a magazine.

Picked up a nice little Sig P238 for the BSR this week.  She does not have the hand/wrist strength for the other small  semi autos she tried.  Cannot pull the slides on them.  This one is on a modified 1911 platform with a very easy pull.  Came with an extended clip.

Not a carry gun - unless you count for quail - got a Stoeger 20 ga semi auto for myself today.  Very similar to the Benelli inertia action - not gas powered.  Gun's parent company is Beretta which also owns Benelli & Franchi as well as SAKO  & a few others.

Clips are something one puts in their hair...

Magazines are something you read while you're sitting on the toilet....

I thought we were talking about guns  ::)

It's not the most practical conceal piece but I get a lot of compliments on it.

Picked up a nice little Sig P238 for the BSR this week.  She does not have the hand/wrist strength for the other small  semi autos she tried.  Cannot pull the slides on them.  This one is on a modified 1911 platform with a very easy pull.  Came with an extended clip.

When my wife wanted a 380 like all her lady rider friends had she wanted a Ruger LCP or a BodyGuard.  I did not want her to have either, felt the Sig was a much better 380.  So with her friends we went to the range, and I took a friends P238.  After my wife shot 4 different 380's she wanted the Sig P238 with out me saying a word.  If I would have told her it was the best, she would have never got it.  We have just over 1000 rounds thru it with zero issues.  Its her carry.

I just got the P938, same gun but in 9mm for summer carry, I will keep carrying the 1911's in the spring fall and winter.

I prefer the Kahr PM45 for summer carry. Other seasons the Glock 30SF.  Both very concealable but still got the punch of the .45.

Thanks Dood!  Will "clip" for future reference.  :2vrolijk_21:

Chose to not renew  my subscription, so my magazine was not "extended" - know what you mean as well.
