Have to add, my grandson has a Ruger 10-22 but much prefers Pop pop's Ruger MKIII and S&W M&P 15-22.

That 15-22 is actually quite fun to shoot.

For Christmas I got the Kimber Ultra CDP 45 in stainless steel/black with rosewood handles.  Beautiful pistol that is sweet to shoot  :beatdeadhorse: :rifle:

Has Kimber gotten rid of the razor sharp ejection ports yet?

do you know if those were "reloads"? have always been told to not use reloads in glocks because weakened brass could expand into the notch in the barrel

I considered going that route too.  Two things made me decide otherwise:  The conversion kit is pretty expensive, so I could just get a whole 'nother pistol in 22LR for just a few bucks more and not have to fiddle with converting it over at the range if I want to shoot the 45 round as well;  The 45 I've settled on is not a 5" barrel, it's a 4.2" (Commander length), so I COULD carry it if I want to, especially in colder weather with more clothes on.  I mean, you CAN carry a 5" 45, but at 5'8" (and shrinking), it's a little large/heavy for me to tote in my wasitband.

Sig makes a nice 1911 22LR and for 45 the Sig 1911 C-3 is a nice piece for CC.
As are the Glock 30SF, Springfield XD45 Compact and Taurus PT145 Pro

And I may end up with a 20ga. tactical pump shotgun as well (Mossberg).  I've got an old 12ga Double Barrel, but it's so heavy, it's impractical for use.

I think the 20 is an excellent choice.
I have a youth model “Escort” 20g auto. The 12.5” LoP makes for an easy to maneuver weapon. The barrel is 20” but with the short LoP it is very manageable. Holds 4+1 of 3” and I am probably going to get the mag extension to add two more.
Not a tac gun by any means, but I preferred an auto for the house and besides, in Jersey, pistol grip autos are on the chit list.

nothing will get someone's attention like hearing you rack a load in a pump shotgun...unmistakable sound.

I agree a shotgun is great, at home. Not to carry. BUT if you ever really need one, and hopefully you never will, but if you do, no time exists to be scaring someone with the sound of "racking" a shotgun, only sound should be safety going off so that already full chamber of "00" is ready to go.

I was just getting ready to add –only sound should be the safety, right before the big bang theory. Racking the shot gun will only give away position. And doing the movie style one hand rack will ruin the gun if you do it enough.

Not 100% sure, but there is no indication that what I have left is a reload. When I go back out in the shop I plan on measuring the length, see how they compare to a standard.

Well I'm not sure about "razor sharp ejection port". This pistol seems to have all smooth edges.

Went to the range yesterday for some time with #1 son and grandson.
Had a deal I couldn't refuse. He wanted a compact 9 and I wanted a G-19. I bought him the KelTec PF-9 (his choice) and traded for his G-19, gen 3. He has department issued Gen4 -19's.
I can tell you I certainly got the better end of the deal, that KelTec PF-9 kicks like a mule!. And it is very uncomfortable to handle when firing (digs into the fingers/hand)

Anyway, I had a gear bag full of mixed 9mm that I was using and had a case failure. The Glock's are a little loose on the sides in that you can see daylight through the slide and grip. Not a defect, inherent in a poly/steel design.

Heat/ smoke/flames/and powder - ouch. Got a 1st degree burn along the top of my index finger and black soot marks across both hands.
Pulled the gun apart, no round in the barrel (that was good) and no damage. My son is a certified Glock armorer, so it was good to have him on hand. Looked at the rest of the rounds in the bag and didn't see anything unusual.

2-3 mags later and - bang - does it again. That's it, all the ammo gets dumped until I can inspect.

Turns out both failed cases are the same brand, marked "F C"
Of the 100 or so rounds I have left of that bunch half are Winchester, a 1/4 PMC and about a dozen of these "F C" rounds. At least I think I can get rid of the bad chit.

Looks like shells aren't clambering, which is baffeling because the gun should not fire until the shell is fully seated..  For kicks, try manually clambering these same shells and check if they slide in freely...   Pretty weird but I'm leaning towards issues with your handgun  :confused5:

My CDP Ultra does not have razor sharp ejection ports.  Its pretty well de burred everywhere.

So - I knew I "had" read about it, not sure when. It was over a year ago, August 2010 issue of Gun Tests, Kimber Compact Stainless II.

Mine is an 08, it does not have a sharp edge like that on the ejection port.

Interesting, I sure would not like that.
