Title: Whrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Post by: Steppr on April 20, 2010, 12:25:20 AM
Long story - kind of short. Just got the 04 SEEG back from repairs a week ago. Purchased from a member here last October. On second ride out in Oct a young lady in an oncoming car decided to make a left turn in front of me, just as I was entering the intersection, nailed her on the corner of her front bumper. 270 over the bars etc etc etc.
So am just getting familiar with this bike now. They replaced the entire front end. Ride is fantastic. We have had a softail and 3 Ultras, non of them are the solid quality this is. Every ride impresses and leaves me questioning what the difference could be. I expect a difference in handling etc between a ford escort and a lincoln, but don't expect it in these bikes. Would appreciate any feedback.
The real question. As this bike warms up, I am hearing an increasingly louder whrrrrrrr sound coming from front of engine. Wear earplugs all time, at first thought it was wiring noise coming through radio but still there when shut off. Can even hear it when standing away from bike. They did not have to replace any engine components in the fix. Is this a normal sound? Have a 103 in my 07 Ultra but dont hear anything like this??? Also seem like fuel gage may be out or I'm getting about 20mpg. Need to put more miles on it, only mention now in case someone may see a correlation between it and sound.

Has the bike had an amp installed?  Some will give a whrrr-sort-of-noise from the speakers.  Could even be there whether the radio is off or not.  Also, pay no attention to the fuel gauge for gauging the fuel.  It's primary duties are to fog up and fill the hole in the fairing.  Track your miles on the odometer and both fill up and measure mpg by that number.

Steppr I don't remember any kind of a noise like that on this bike. No amp was installed. Fuel gauge always seemed to work well. But like them all it stays on full for a long time and drops fast after that. It seemed to be accurate enough to let you know when to refill. Glad you got it up and running again. DelNel :)

04 has the 2 speaker amplified head unit. I replaced my spark plug wires and it got rid of a high picked whine.

Was the bike still running after you went down? Just thinking was it short on oil from being down? DelNel :nixweiss:

Picking away at things.
Mileage today 32.4mp imperial gallon.
Fuel light on took 10.4l to fill it (approx 2.5us gal) fuel gage does look nice tho.
Learned the dealer installed hog tunes when it was down. Does the whrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr thing when radio is off.
Someone said could still be the amp???????
Ride still impresses.

Is the sound coming from the speakers (put your ear next to a speaker and turn the ignition switch on and off)?

You cite "as the bike warms up" as when you hear the noise. Presumably you're not talking about the fuel pump which pressurizes prior to hitting the start button? :nixweiss:

Does not sound with key only turned on, only when engine running.
They confirmed today that they did replace the oil cooler, front rocker box, and front motor mount. Nothing else.

Are you running the stock spark plug wires and the stock spark plugs?   Depending on the brand etc changing these items can cause that feedback through the stereo.
