Instead of putting the new oil temp gauge in place of the ambient air temp gauge I think I'll move the voltmeter over there and put the oil temp gauge where the volt meter was.  That way the oil pressure and oil temp instruments will be stacked one above the other.

What do you connect the guage to in order to make it functional?  Do I need to buy anything else?

Guage comes complete and the sending unit taps in next to the oil drain plug under the transmission.  Very simple install.

Runs up along the frame rail with the other wires/clutch cable to the fairing, makes a very clean install.
