I had the LCD stick and went back to stock after it blew out accellerating on a highway on-ramp.  That cam/o-ring design is not high on my praise list.  The barbs of the stock on hold better.

Know what you mean about the LED dipstick. I had one blow out on my '03 Ultra a while back right after the dealer put a big bore stage II kit on.  Seems whoever filled the oil didn't understand that the LED has to go straight in to lock the bearings.  Any turning will free up the filler stick.  I've not hand any issues since that time as several hours of cleaning is a great reminder.  I do all my fluids myself ususally anyways.

I use the LED and I also have a McEwan fairing gauge.  I've always used the two just to get comfortable knowing where the temp is.  Roger's gauge isn't really accurate until you get above 200.

I'm a bit annoyed that the gauge that I ordered is on the way with the needle issue.  I thought it was pretty clear that it would be modelled after the other gauges.  Live and learn.

This is precisely why a forum such as this is so beneficial.  One slight comment gets made about considering the LED dipstick and the ensuing conversation immediately and informatively highlights that the item in question can be a problem child if one isn't very careful.  Enough so to certainly make one think twice about whether any gain might be outweighed by the fuss of just having to think about something that you shouldn't really ever have to think about.

I mean, really, who wants to worry every time they hop on their bike about whether or not their dipstick might get blown?  [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Man I'm glad to hear that I wasn't the only one that had an oil cap blow off the bike. But my situation was the opposite, the stock one chose the self eject option and so far the LED has stayed put.

I'm using the dipstick gauge for more than 6 months now and it is a major ordeal just to get this thing out of the hole, I can't imagine this thing ever blowin' out!!!  I guess I just wanted to let others know it's not all bad!!!

Yeah, not to discount some of the issues with the LED dipstick that others have had, but I've had zero problems with mine either blowing out or being hard to remove.  Used it in two different bikes for over 2 years and 15,000 miles.

The instructions for mine say to turn it counter clockwise before trying to pull it out. It comes out pretty easy when its turned first. There is some sort of mechanism that releases it.

Mine is very hard to turn!!! then it is still EXTREMELY snug (you have to wiggle it on mine) to get it out.
