Tour-Pak Paint Graphics
« on: December 03, 2003, 09:22:57 PM »

I am planning on putting a Tour-Pak on my FLHTCSE.  From what I can tell in the accessories book and from the dealer, if I order a King Tour-Pak it will come in the FLHTCSE colors but not with any of the pinstripes.  On the other hand if I get the Chopped Tour-Pak, it comes with the both the colors and the pinstripes.  Anyone know if this is true!

I would like the King Tour-Pak and you would think for $850 they would pinstripe it!

I'm not sure about the pin stripping, but I am going with the King Tour Pak anyway.  I have an ice chest that fit in my tour pak on my Ultra Classic and I plan on using it again on the SEEG.

Besides, any good pin striper will do it for less than $50.

I finally received my King Tour Pac today and, despite what I was told, it is all pin striped, has the flames, and looks great.  All is well!

Let's see if I can hit all the questions.

1)  The king Tour Pac looks just like JCZ's #2 photo.  It is black with the same stripes etc on the cover that are on that photo.

2)  I am using the quick release set-up.  My plan is to switch back and forth from the stock seat/sissybar set-up to the tour pac/touring seat depending on if I am just riding around local or on my long trips...or if my wife is along...she's the one who demaded the touring seat and the big armchair backrest on the tourpack!

3)  I am using the comfort stitch seat from Harley.  (The SERK uses the Road King version of that seat as we know.)  I went with this seat because both my wife and I liked the seat on the '02 Ultra I had before this, I knew it would fit, and because the passenger portion of this seat is the widest I have found...not that my wife has a wide bottom!!!  (She may read this by accident!)

4) I ordered the Tour Pac on 10/28/03 and it arrived on 1/9/04.

Finally, the King Tour Pac does not come with a lock.  Apparently the short one does.  I think the lock is about $10.

Finally, finally, I needed to get an antenna relocation kit as well in order to switch back and forth the way I mentioned before.

Jay are you putting the back rest with the wrap around arms(aka ultra classic) if so let us now if you find a template to drill the extra hole for mounting,  as I understand even the king tour-pak comes with the small backrest.  Gotta keep em happy. [smiley=1syellow1.gif]

My King Tour Pac came with no backrest at all.  I did put the big armchair backrest on just like on my Ultra.  The template came with the backrest.

One quick thought on this stuff we've been talking about...

I know that not all Harley seats fit if you put on the big armchair backrest on the tour pac, so I would suggest you check on that if you go with an aftermarket seat as well.

As I said, just a thought!

Corbin's seat is made specifically for this bike (the 04 SEEG) and it comes with the arm chair backrest.

Just got my King Tour Pak and am very happy with what I see.

It is painted to match the cobalt blue and black including the pin stripe.  I notice a big difference from the tour pak on my 01 Ultra Classic.  All the hardware (latches, hinges, lock, side plates (where the side lights are on the Ultra Classic, along the bottom of the trunk) are all chrome plated!  It did come with a lock and map pouch, also.

The quality of the paint and clear coat are very nice, no ridges over the pin striped areas.  I ordered the liner for it, yesterday.  I'm also thing about putting the spoiler wing on their with the LED running/brake light, but haven't decided on that, yet, for sure.

You got your Tour Pack before the bike..that would depress me! :'(  I am not getting a tour pack right away/  I got the full size removable backrest with the luggage rack attached.  I have a t-bag that will hold almost as much stuff and when you get to where your going it all comes off easy (and my wife is comfortable also.

Mine came with a map pouch as well, but no lock.  I had to buy that separate!  How do you rate!!!  I'm jealous.  Must be that "senior member" status vs my "newbie"!!

Just kidding.  Glad it all worked out for you too!

Ok guys, its been a while since I've responded to the site but figured I'd let you know.
I just ordered the Tour pak, detachable mounting kit, antanna relocation kit, Corbin Dual Tour Seat w/heater, matching "small" passenger backrest, and rider backrest.
I ordered through Patty at Chicago HD. and got 20% off the Harley parts and 10% off the Corbin parts. Plus no state tax. shipping is still cheaper than the tax.  3 to 4 weeks for delivery.
Same old story, the old lady's butt got spoiled with the Ultra.     [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

The Corbin seat has about 50 different styles (appearence) to choose from at no extra cost. And another 50 with added costs. Their web site shows it all.

The weather here on the west coast is suppose to be "spring like conditions" for the next few days. I can't wait.  [smiley=bigok.gif]

I am thinking of the chopped tour pak. has anyone seen any lower profile passenger backrests, with the armrests that would fit the chopped tour pak and still maintain the more chopped look? You know best of both type of thing. Trying to make everyne happy you know, and still have it my way ;), any photos?

Rugby in my homepage (click on the "homepage" icon at the top right of any page) there are some photos with the chopped tour pak on this bike.  However, my understanding is that the arm chair type backrest is not compatable with the chopped tour pak.

Jack make sure you order the lock with it, I quess it's not included and my dealer said they had to order it so it would be keyed to my ignition  key. They threw in the lock and installation for free so I wasn't about to question him.

Just in case anyone wondered...I have the Mustang pillow seat on my bike, and it fits great with the king tour pak.  I also ordered the black spotted backrest, instead of the SEEG backrest pad.  It looks better with the Mustang seat, and cost $100 less!!!  Unbelievable.

Thanks Doc, for the photo.....it was pretty clear on this monitor (had to buy a new one last week cuz I couldn't make out the photos).

My wife has already let me know that she wants the wrap around back rest like my Ultra Clssics had.  So I'll be getting that style for when I have the trunk on.

What did you do with the holes in the tour pak?  Or did you leave your antenna back there?

I like the wing tips, too.  That is something that I was already considering and will definately go with them after seeing them on your bike.  Thanks again Doc! [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Haven't done anything yet with the holes...still waiting for a great idea to pop up.  I would prefer not having them professionally filled/painted.  No real desire to spend that much cash on such a small deal.  Yes, I liked the wing tips too...thanks for noticing.  I can't freaking wait for warmer weather, and rain to clean off some of this crappy salt dust.  I'll post more pictures when I get a chance.

You need to go up there and check out your equipment, I think they started painting orange and black last week.

You are right in that fact. Got a call from them today and they had a coil froze in a machine. They really wanted someone to come up this week and I will probably send someone else. Our shop manager is out due to a death in the family and I am covering for him through Friday. I probably won't make it up there anytime soon the way things are going. Thought if someone gets ahold of one prior to me seeing it live I would like to at least look at a photo.  ???

Hey Doc I need some help.
I am assuming your tourpak is detachable. What part number did you use for the mounting bracket that attaches to the tourpak? I ordered the chopped tourpak and a "detachable tour pak bracket" part # 53107-96. This is not the right one.
thanks

Uh-Oh! I ordered the same bracket for mine. What seems to be wrong with that tour pak rack? Did you get the docking hardware kits too? It appears to be right by looking in the catalog .............

Kind of hard to explain, but.
I am hoping I can use the same docking parts that come on the bike for the stock backrest. The bracket I ordered does not mount to the existing docks. The distance between the forward and rear dock on the bike is much further apart and the bracket is not adjustable.

Were you told that you had to change the docking posts on the bike as well?

thanks

Hey Kingsalmon...you need additional docking hardware to fit the bracket.  Look in the Mo-Co book and you will see what you need.  It's a cheap fix, and it will work.

Yes sir. Unfortunately yes. The parts guy told me right down to the last nut and bolt (literally) what I'd have to get. Stupid me didn't write anything down either. Basicaly tho it's the docking kits, both front and rear. The tour pak rack and backrest. For the king tour pak you have to add the lock and assorted hardware.

I'm not aware of any tour pak mount that will work with the detachable backrest docking station. Sorry ...  [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

You do not need front docking hardware.....it's the same as your front docking hardware for the passenger backrest.

Yeah .... me too. I'm really looking forward to seeing your smiling face astride that orange SEEG! I bet that was one hell of a disappointment. So, outside of the color, what did you think of the spoilers? Thinking about a set for your SEEG?

JCZ, Do you just relocate the front docking station for the backrest to use for the tour pak? The dealer told me that it wouldn't work. I guess I'll be finding out in a couple of friggen months! I can't believe painted parts are that far out.  [smiley=confused.gif]

I was bummed, my wife wanted to kill the guy.   [smiley=furious.gif] As for the saddlebag spoilers they look ok I guess, but I wash the bike every Friday and thought the wiring would be a hassle when taking the saddle bags on and off.  Orange pearl  in the light is way cool.  Parts guy said he would sell'em cheap,  I'll ask how much if anyone is interested.  [smiley=beerchug.gif]

Speaking of King Tour-paks.....has anyone found a good way of plugging the antenna mounting holes in the King-Pak???  I guess I'm looking for a pop-in rubber plug or something similar.  I know we visited this topic before, but no one had yet found anything good for this.  Thanks.

Doc,
What about using a a button head fastener (see Picture)and nut with an o-ring under the head so you don't scratch the paint and seal out the water?

Button head with chrome flat washer and nylon washer under that, is what I have.  Not the best looking but it beats leaving a hole and nobody has commented on it.

I also thought about a short bolt from the inside, with the chrome acorn nut (no lock washer, just Locktight) on the outside.

Some kind of Rubber plugs do exists. I was at the local HD dealer and saw a SEEG with the chopped tour pack lid and rubber plugs that looked very clean. I just called and the guy in parts said he remembered the bike and they used the rubber bumper off the jiffy stand on a softtail part number 62123-66

This however does not make sense to me.
All I know for sure is I saw very clean looking flat plugs where the antenna relocation kit goes.

This does not make sense to me either...but I really want to find something...thanks for the info.  I'll keep looking.

did you install the arm rest seat on your tour pack?  Did you have to drill holes to mount it?  I am getting ready to install the arm rest on the tour pack.  Thanks

Yes you have to drill holes to mount the larger backrest, it should have come with a template for drilling the holes.

Thaanks may not be the cheapest way to fill the antenna holes but looks better than bolts or plugs.

My husband removed his antenae from his tour pak, which left two holes. He filled them with a harley licence plate holder with the "Bar & Shield" Logo License Plate Hardware Kit. This chrome-plated hardware kit features white "Bar & Shield" logos, set off by a black background. Sold in sets of four, these 1/4"-20 x 3/4" fasteners include lock nuts and washers.

However....  Mrs. We, if you want to make a stab at color matching the plastic or rubber plugs you used Harley has a touch up paint kit for our red bikes.  I did what you described with some plastic plugs from Home Depot to fill the holes on the chopped tour pak when I removed my own antenna.  It's a base color/top color kit for the candy cherry and does a surprisingly good job.

I just walked out and looked at my touch up kit so as to give you the part number from it but it turns out the only number on the package is 94276.  Not the right nomenclature for a normal HD part number.  But speak with the parts counter at the dealership and they should be able to find the touch up paint kit available for the red bikes.
