SEEG Seat
« on: February 20, 2005, 06:23:23 PM »

Interested in the seat members are using for their SE Electraglides for touring, as well as daily riding, if different.  Messages specifying pros/cons, comfort vs looks, # miles logged on different models, comparisons, lessons learned, backrests, etc. appreciated.  Hoping this adds to the database on this site regarding this very important option for what is obviously the best motorcycle ever made.

Just bought the Road King pillow look. After coming off of an Ultra it's hard to step back on the long trips.

The red bike has the Corbin Dual Tour.  It's got the heater in it and I did red welt to make it look better on the bike.  A pair of the oval backrests done to match the seat.

Without regard to the appearance (which I really like), however, my butt likes it a lot.  And that's the important thing.

For now mine will be the stock seat until I can afford to get the Corbin Dual Touring Seat. I had the corbin on my last bike and really liked it [smiley=bigok.gif]

Does this seat work with the stock rider backrest? It looks like the stock one in the pic.

Its the taller backrest with the small back pad to fit it. The stock one did not work.

I am using the comfort stitch for a Road King also. My wife likes it much better. I really like the looks of the stock seat but the comfort stitch is great for the long rides.

Anybody tried this one with the backrest yet for long distance touring?  Kinda has the good looks of the stock seat with maybe more touring comfort?

I too have the Mustang Road King touring seat.  Very nice and comfy.  I am anxious to ride, I bought JC's Corbin custom made seat.  Can't wait to put some miles on the bike, this winter thing is getting old.

I installed a stock seat off of a Road King Custom. I just liked the looks of this seat and it didn't hurt that it is fairly inexpensive at $200.

It is also compatable with the stock rider backrest, which is cool.

For touring, that would be somewhere around the 300 mile plus day, I have a Road Zeplin.  The ultimate touring seat is located on page #410 of the HD 2005 accesories catalouge.   I put a tank bra on to protect chrome dash.  I had one on my 98 ultra for 77 thousand very comfortable miles [smiley=thumbsup.gif]  I wouldn't think of riding an 800 mile day without one.

Got an email today from Mustang saying the one piece sport touring seat I ordered is on backorder and I won't have it for a month. Oh well. Also, I came across a site that has the Mustang seat line for cheaper. They will also ship it for free. Would save about $55 off the order. I have emailed Mustang to see if they will match the price. If they won't, I will cancel and order from directparts.com. Here ya go!!

I haven't taken any measurements, but the Comfort Stitch seat sits you higher off the ground and more forward than the stock SEEG seat.  Basically, you'll feel more like you're sitting "on" the bike instead of "in" it.  You could get a good feel for it just by sitting on or riding an '04 or '05 Electra Glide.  Just keep in mind that the SEEG will sit one inch lower due to the lowered suspension.

I'm running the stock seat, had thought about going with Mustang early on, because that's the seat I used on my last scoot, which was very confortable, but the more I ride this seat, the more I'm liking it. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Still on the stock SEEG saddle, 'cause I like the looks of it, esp. the way the rear part follows the contour of the fender.  But, not the most comfortable seat in the world.  I start squirming way before it's time to stop for gas and that ain't good if you're planning a cross country ride as I am this summer.  I had Corbin make me a custom saddle(spiderweb, of course) and rode it cross country.....did fine. May do that for the SEEG, now that I think about it. [smiley=confused5.gif] [smiley=drink.gif] [smiley=idea.gif]

I'm confused here.........can someone set me straight here please.  I currently have a Corbin (tuck & roll heated) on my 2001 Ultra classic. I like it so well I thought I would keep it and use it on my new 2005 SEEG when it arrives in May.

Will it fit? Or do I need to buy a new one?

Thanks!

Unfortunately, you will have to pony up for a new one. The Ultra seat goes up too far on the dash to fit on the SEEG. The only way the seat would work would be to put the shorter Ultra dash panel on the SEEG.

Yup, you gotta have a seat made for a Road King or do as Laker suggests, but then loose the CVO applique on the dash. [smiley=thumbsdown.gif]

No one has mentioned replacing HD "open cell foam" with "closed cell super foam"  Sargents Cycle Products www.SargentCycle.com in Jacksonville FL will  take stock seats and replace the foam.

I've done on 2 seats so far.  First was 2000 Deuce, next was for my 04 SEEG (Blk/Blu).  I have a 02 Screamin Eagle Road King seat on the 04, (stingray insert) and just finished Daytona run.  GREAT improvement.

Planning on doing 05 SEEG (red) stock seat the same way.  Love the fit, feel and look of the stock SE seats.  Cost around $200 for 2 up foam replacement.

Doesn't change cosmetics at all, just better padding under.

I thought the only advantage in closed-cell foam over the open-cell was that it would not absorb water. (BIG advantage in a mc seat).  But, if it's more comfortable also, that's a no-brainer! [smiley=dunce2.gif]

It is better, when you go to Sargents, they throw a piece of foam on floor and have you stand on it.  Doesn't compress 50% like open cell foam.  Comfortable without turning HARD like the stock foam.  Corbin must use some sort of this type of foam.  Seats always seemed very hard, yet everyone swears after breakin, it is great.

Sargents does big seat business on swapping foam.  They do not redue entire seat, only part that takes body pressure.  they cut out old and cut in new piece to replace.   They usually have 2 week turnaround time.  I'm going for third seat next week.

Any body ever try any other like swap with any one else?  I tried another guy in Myrtle Beach at Suck Bang and Blow,  on the same seat,  and didn't like it as much.

Sargents has better FOAM

I finally had the chance to throw on the Mustand Sport Touring seat that has been in my garage for a while. It was a little difficult being that I am currently on crutches but it's on there. I wish I could test it out. I definitely like the look (the Mustang Touring Seat was a little too bulky looking for me). I will get a pic sometime soon. Just getting the seat on was a feat in itself.

I am going to specifically ask him if he thinks there is anyway I will be healed enough to make the Smokies. If he doesn't say yes, I think I will whack him in the shin with a crutch. While in the garage today, I checked to see if I could hold the bike up with the bad ankle. It was a little testy, but in 25 more days you never know.

Has anyone tried or know someone who has tried the HD Tall Boy Seats?   If so, what part number did you/they purchase?  I tried a 52975-05 which is listed for Electra Glides.  It was comfortable but the front piece extended too far up onto the tank.  I have a question in to the local HD dealer regarding 52976-05 which is listed for Road Kings and Electra Glides with a cover on the tank.

I had a sundowner seat on my FLHRCI and loved it.
Thanks

Since I started this wayward thread back there, guess I should post what I have done so far regarding the seat issue and how it's going....went with the Corbin Stinger....really like it....very comfortable long distance so far plus actually accentuates the slammed looked of the bike, IMO.

I am also really likin' the snake trim thing with the flame stitch and the B & B paint...  [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Elvis, I LOVE that Corbin seat, Man!  You did good with the flames and the whole deal.  Goes really well w/ the bike.  I had Corbin do me a custom seat for my Softtail and I've always loved it.  May have to go the way you did, it's the best I've seen so far.  Glad to hear it's comfortable for the all day hauls.  Two questions......Did it sit you any farther back from the bars?   ..........and Does it raise or lower you on the bike?   [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Thank you, Mrs. We...

I am still waiting on the chrome backrest but betting that works well.  Will post another pic when I get it.

Hey SpyD...
Thanks, think it worked out well.
Corbin sits me down and back...that is what I wanted as the footboards/footrests have always seemed a little cramped after the Road King...not any more.

Elvis, the seat is really nice looking on your bike.  Nicely done  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]  Another question while your fielding them though.  What holds it down in the rear?

Elvis, seat looks great. Quick question. Do you have to remove the stock rider backrest bracket that sits on the fender or does it need to be removed. Just wondered. Thanks.

I am taking the Fifth as I am married.

Seriously tho, Corbin has a new slick mounting system that uses a lock with a key and no visible screw.

elvis

So by the time the Elvis/MFG mounting system is fully implemented the seat is held down by gravity, a wife's bottom and a lock and key.  I am not even going to ask about where the lock and key goes............. [smiley=shocked2.gif]

Elvis,

Damn sweet looking seat!  Didn't care for the shape too much in the plain stitching but it looks awesome with the custom touch!  Now I love it. Thanks for sharing.

ELVIS,

ThE REAL QUESTION IS, WHETHER OR NOT YOU GOT THE BOOTS TO MATCH THE SEAT.

Which brings to mind.......if you named your bike Molly.

Fee, fee, fi, fi, fo-fo, fum
Look at Elvis now, here he comes
Wearin' his helmet and memphis shades to match
He's got alligator boots and the alligator chaps
Wearin' dome top pistons  and chrome-moly rings
He's got chrome on his fingers, now, and everything
He's the devil with the blue dresser, blue dresser, blue dresser,
Devil with the blue dresser on
Devil with the blue dresser, blue dresser, blue dresser,
Devil with the blue dresser on
Wearin' his perfume, Harley SYN 3
Got to be the finest biker 'ever could be
He walks with a limp, catches everybody's eye
He's got such good lovin' that they can't say goodbye
Not too skinny, he's not too fat
He's a real humdinger and they like it like that
He's the devil with the blue dresser, blue dresser, blue dresser,
Devil with the blue dresser on
Devil with the blue dresser, blue dresser, blue dresser,
Devil with the blue dresser on

       Good golly, Miss Molly
       You sure like to roll
       Good golly, Miss Molly
       You sure like to roll
       While you're rockin' and rollin'
          Gotta pay another toll
From the early, early mornin' 'til the early, early nights
See Miss Molly rockin' from the Cars with Blue Lights
       Good golly, Miss Molly
       You sure like to roll
       While you're rockin' and rollin'
           Gotta pay another toll

Elvis, that stitch pattern looks similar to the seat that Corbin made for me.......except I had them double stitch in blue thread, the flames pattern (follow the link to a slide show of the seat being made)...........

Does anyone know if any stock Road King Seat whether it's from Harley, Corbin whoever will it fit if you take off the back rest mount under the seat?  Corbin says it won' t fit.  You need the seat they sell for a CVO SEEG.  But that's Corbin talking.  Has anyone done it and do you have pics?

I have a Mustang solo seat on my SEEG that I had on my RK The fit at the front isn't perfect but is as good as it was on the RK. Can't use the HD back rest.

bighd1340,

I can address one model of the Corbin offerings.

The Corbin Dual Tour seat made for the Road King is different than the one made for the SEEG.  The overall length of the SEEG version is shorter to accomodate the Tour Pac.  I have a leftover Dual Tour for my former Road King and have installed it on my SEEG.  To do this, you must remove the rider backrest hardware.  When installed, this seat is too long and will not allow the Tour Pack to fit.

BIGHD1340, I put the Road King Custom seat ( harley item # 51093-04) on mine. Fits fine and rides much better than the stock. I did move the driver backrest bracket slightly so the backrest fits better. Also put on a bigger passenger quick detachable  backrest with a  luggage rack. All this make the bike better for trips but I like the stock look a lot better. Good luck.

Corbin's seats are still the best!!!!!  I just received my new gambler seat today and it's great.  I have tried everything to make the stock seat tolerable with no luck.  I rode about 150 miles today with no butt pain.  I have had 2 other corbins that were great.  I know some will say they are pricey butt you get what you pay for.  Hee are some pictures.

Nope, the stock backrests have a framework that bolts the bike.  The Corbin backrest attaches in the seat itself.  Total dissimilar systems.

Just to share recent experience with Mustang Seats. Called to order a two-up touring seat for '04 SEEG. They sold me product #75464 which is made for a Road King. This seat would not fit to my satisfaction, as the front rides up over the dash and its a real stretch to get the rear down far enough to screw it in. I felt that there would be too much stress on that little screw so its going back to Mustang. They were very patient with me, but after all the off and on, I lost mine. Looks like its going to be a Corbin, as I know it is SEEG specific, even though its much more $ and can't use stock HD backrest.

HEY HDNUT YOU CAN USE THE STOCK BACKREST WITH THE GAMBLER SEAT IT FITS PERFECT.  THAT'S ANOTHER REASON I BOUGHT THIS PARTICULAR SEAT BECAUSE CORBINS BACKRESTS LOOK LIKE BIG LOLLIPOPS.  IF YOU WANT TO SEE IT LET ME KNOW AND I WILL SEND YOU SOME PICS.

Hey Elvis..........too many of those 'fine corbin seats' walking away from the bike while parked out in the dark?????  If it's handy for us, it's handy for the opportunist thief.   [smiley=mean.gif]  spyder

By the pics in the attachment it'd be great for the solo but it won't work on a dual seat.  Dual seat doens't have those mounting bolts in the rear.  So it's back to the thumbnuts for all us dual seated numbnuts.  Now I want some beernuts.

HDNUT if you're wanting to make your wife happy do what I did and buy her her own harley.  Most women don't like the passenger part of the corbin's and the gambler seat is no exception. [smiley=6.gif]

JCZ,

How do you condition and clean your seat so that you don't discolor the blue flame stitching? [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Like the look just wondering about the long term upkeep?

Thank you for your reply! [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Just got an E-mail back from corbin today. No lock mechanism for SEEG DualTour available. Just a wee bit paranoid about being a screwdriver away from losing a $800.00 seat to some lowlife. Any suggestions? I'm thinking of at least replacing the Phillips screw with a Torx screw.

Some things you've got to just decide not to worry about.  If memory serves the "stock" screw is a button head (needs an allen socket or wrench).  If it's not then that or a torx head would be an easy solution.  I've just got the thumb screw on mine though.  Had the same thing on two Corbin seats on two Road Kings over a few years before this bike too.

Someone might mess with it.  With the tour pak on most folks don't even know where the release screw is.  And if they do, a different kind of screw isn't likely to stop them anyway.

With the thumbscrew I don't have to worry about not being able to get the seat off easily on some dark night if I need a jump though.  I'm a big fan of making things easy for me.

I am thinking about purchasing the Corbin dual touring seat for my red 05 SEEG.  What about the tourpack?  I didnt see any pictures of the seat with the tourpack on the bike.  Will it fit correctly with the rider backrest and the tourpack on the bike?  Or is this seat only for use when the tourpack is off.  I did see they make a little pad for the tourpack if you want to match a color.  I called and talked to someone who had no idea what I was talking about!  If anyone has a picture of this seat with the stock tourpack, I would appreciate seeing it.  Thanks!

I put 700 miles on my SEEG this past weekend, when I picked it up from the dealer.  I can tell you now, it is not a touring saddle.  I called my dealer on monday and ordered the Dual Touring Corbin, that is made especially for the SEEG.  The dealer felt so bad about me not liking the seat, ordered the seat for me with the heater, at the same price as the non-heated.  I ordered it in gray ostrich, with black piping, and the large round backrests for rider and passenger.  Will post pics in a few weeks with it on.  This is going on the yellow SEEG

In answer to two previous posts...

Item 1)    The oddball mounting screw was acceptable insurance for me, SO, I went down to the local contractors supply depot and bought the nifty tool to remove the oneway screws that you see used in public restrooms, (which took some talkin' but I finally convinced 'em my intentions were honest) and I used that type screw to mount the seat, (with the tool in the saddlebag for quick jumps...) [smiley=blush.gif]

Item 2)   My brother in law just put the gel pads in his seat...  took a long ride...   sold the seat.  He said he felt like he'd crapped his pants for 450 miles, and he didn't like the feeling.  I'm guessin' it just squished up his crack and stayed there...   ick. [smiley=furious.gif]

Coolbreeze.....Glad your brother-in-law stepped up to the plate on his review of the gel seats.  I've been trying to figure out how to explain my displeasure with them.  I recently bought a bike for resale that had one on, rode it about 50 miles and couldn't begin to list the personal annoyances with the seat in addition to sweating your a$$ off.

The verdict is in I just got back from the Red River Rally riding the Corbin Gambler seat.  Going was a little rough because the seat was new and they need to get broke in but we rode 670 miles straight through to get home and it was pretty damn good.  It's not as comfortable as the Dual Touring but it looks closer to the stock seat.  I would have kept my Ultra if I wanted a recliner.  Corbin Rocks!!!!!!!!!

Nice seat.

You can use Photoshop or MS Image Composer to resize the pic.  Make it 500 pixels wide by 375 tall at 72 dpi or 5 x 7 inches.
