King backrest on a chopped tour pack-pictures
« on: July 21, 2008, 08:30:42 PM »

I just installed the MOCO's smooth backrest on my chopped tourpack.  Wanting more comfort/safety for my 9 year old daughter falling a sleep on longer rides.  About a month ago I searched for pictures but couldn't find.  Recently saw Willie G's 03 anniversary Road Glide with chopped pack and king backrest at the Motorcycle Museum in Pickerington, Ohio and didn't look that bad at least to me.  Sometimes you have to go with safety/benefits over looks.  Maybe these will help someone to decide.  Required drilling 6 new holes in the lid (comes with a drill template).

I think you'll be please with the result Bob.  If Parker is going for a ride that's more than very quick I'll put the King tour pak on the red bike.  It's got the big Corbin backrest on it.  Those have "arms" that are longer than the Harley pad's armrests.  She's very comfortable inside of it and really can't fall out with the tour pak mounted in the most forward postion it can be and still fit behind the saddle.  Makes a nice cocoon for the kid.

Amen brother Bob.  Corbin wants a boatload for their backrests too.  My grown up passengers actually prefer that pad when considered solely for comfort's sake.  Parker is about the only thing I put the King tour pak on for anymore though.

:2vrolijk_21: I like it!  It looks better than the small pad on the chopped pack.  It'll certainly give you more confidence when it gets quiet back there.  I was getting a few gentle helmet taps on Saturday on a 50 mile ride from a sleepy 11 yr old BSR........

That's definitely the sign she is falling a sleep.

Hey Bob

How does your daughter like the corbin seat? I'm beginning to think my wife does not care for the "firm' seating.

Get those comms yet?

No comm's yet, Duane.  Daughter likes the Corbin much better than the stock seat for comfort.  Last year when it was shipped back (Corbin), she kept asking how much longer on this bad seat.

Stock seat was never an option for us. I was switching between a comfort stitch and the corbin.

I just added the harley sunray to my 2001 SERG (Blue) amd was looking for a new backrest with some side support as my 15 year old son keeps falling a sleep. This looks like an option. Why doesn't harley market this for the chopped tour pack? Is there a fit issue?

Thanks,

No fitment issue.  The tour pack lids are all the same no matter what size lower tourpack you have.  The large backrest comes with the template to drill 6 holes to mount it to the lid.

The large backrest works/mounts fine on a chopped tourpack.  Do not know why it is not marketed by the MOCO to fit.

Thanks
I ordered the Harley King Tour-Pak Backrest Pad Street Glide 51634-06 for my 2001 SERG with the chopped pak. The harley photo of this backrest has the sunray seat in it which is what I have and it looks nice. I did notice at the dealer today that the lower pad mounts to the pak and not the lid (at least the newer ones do). Is that how your is? I will post a photo when I get it mounted.

I no longer have the bike so I can't walk out and look.  I believe my flap attached to the backrest but I can't tell from my 1st picture in this post.     :nixweiss:

I have the same backrest pad on my chopped tour pak (same year and color too!) and the flap attaches to the backrest.

I installed the Steet Glide tour pack backrest today on the chopped tour pack of my 2001 SERG. Everything bolted on fine after drilling the new holes and plugging the old ones. I just used 1/4-20 bolts to plug the holes. All the bolts are covered so you can not see them. I used small O-rings on all the bolts to make sure they are sealed. Here are a couple photos with the bike on the lift. As it was snowing out and 9" on the ground it wasn't leaving the garage. Normaly in VA we can ride year around but not this year.

53100-96   HD part# out of accessory book. $99.95

If I would have done it again, I would have used the contoured part# 79148-06A as it is more user friendly for bags.

I had to put cloth under the bag ends to not scratch the lid.
