XM Install
« on: September 09, 2005, 08:42:01 AM »

I think that I have seen someone else that has done this but thought I would share anyway. I installed my XM into the lower fairing last night. I will finish all the wiring tonight and should be ready to ride again for the weekend. I originally had the unit in my windshield pouch but decided I wanted to remove the pouch completely. Besides a handlebar mount, this is the only place I could find. The next step is to get the locking covers and put the unit in those so I have a little security.

Laker, nice install!  That is similar to 04hd103's setup.

How about a picture from the back side to show what kind of mounting was fabricated to keep the unit from just pushing inside?

Tonight I'll snap some pics of the inside and the wiring when complete.

The antenna sits on top of the radio under the fairing.

I don't think the unit itself is waterproof but considering the entire XM package is now only $50 I will take my chances. I do know that how I have it mounted is much more protected than the handlebar mounts that I was considering.

how about some pics? my only concern would be that the antenna would or would not work inside the fairing.

Mine's on the handlebars and after getting wet for some reason the presets don't work until it drys out. Still can use the manual tuner or the remote.

You can get a weather resistant cover for your handlebar mounted Roady here http://www.twowheelradio.com/ or here http://www.hoonhardware.com/RoadyHolder/roadyholder.htm

I don't have any pics of the antenna under the fairing but will try to remember to snap a few the next time I have it off. The antenna itself is a magnet and holds very firmly to the radio. As far as the reception, I never have a problem until I get into the mountains. Then I always have a CD for backup tunes.  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Thanx Darrell, Just ordered my cover from 2wheel.

I also have my antenna "mouse" on my radio under the fairing and have not had any problems.
