Catalytic converter??
« on: March 14, 2011, 09:53:48 PM »

Here's another question from the fellow is considering the purchase of a 2011 Softail Convertible from a dealer who does not currently have the bike in the store. As a result, he's not entirely sure about a few of the questions I have for him.

OK, I've gotten conflicting information about this. Do 2011 non-California bikes with the Screaming Eagle 110 engine have calalytic converters in the head pipes? If that is in fact correct, some have said that changing the headpipes should always go along with a change in mufflers.

As always, thank you in advance for any response.

My 2010 are only in the mufflers.  I would guess that the 2011 is the same.  I just changed the mufflers with SE Slip-ons.

As far as I know, unlike standard Harleys, all CVO 110's have cats in the head pipes - California or not.  My 09 CUSE4 certainly did, and it was not a California bike.  The explanation  that I have heard is that it was cost prohibitive for Harley to produce separate CVOs for the non-California market, so we all got screwed with the cat.  Mine went away with an upgrade to the Fullsac X-pipe/baffle/TTS package this past fall.

Touring models, the cat is in the headpipe at the collector.  Other models it is in the mufflers.  And all CVO 110's come with cat's.

Jerry is right on the money.  So if you are offended by the cats on your Conv they are very easy to get rid of by simply buying a set of slip-ons.
