Saddle shields/ heat deflectors
« on: November 28, 2011, 08:52:06 AM »

Has anyone installed any type of heat shield like these Kuryakyn (http://www.kuryakyn.com/Products/837/AirMaster-Saddle-Shields  ) on a Convertible?

Any issues with installation?

Would they interfere with checking the oil?

Thanks!

Yes,  I have those on my 2010.

They do not interfere with anything and do a pretty good job of preventing my right leg from getting cooked at stop lights.  They look pretty good on my bike,  IMHO..  Make sure you do not clean these with anything harsh as my friend did and the chrome rubbed off.

Only problem was that the front mounting bracket did not work because it goes across the frame just behind the tank mount.  The stock seat is formed to fit snug, so it was in the way.  I went to Lowes and bought a aluminum conduit clamp,  slipped it over the frame (with a little bending and finesse) and it worked great.  I think it was the 1" but bought 2 sizes as they were cheap and used the one that fit.  The back mount was perfect.

If you would like,  I will snap a shot and post.

I have them on my 2011 ConV and they work great.  I read some posts about them breaking easily, but no problems for me.

Thanks.

ozarke - Pic would be great if you have time to take and post.

jasray - did you have any problem installing? I will be putting them on a 2012 - wouldn't think there would be any difference.

Made a misstatement on my earlier post,  it was the rear bracket that didn't fit.   Following it some pictures.

The installation is pretty straightforward, you have to leave everything a little loose in order to get the alignment even on both sides, but other than that it is a 15 - 20 minute job.

I have one from RJS Originals and they work fairly well and look a lot better. They're having a sale right now.

beauty is in the eye of the beholder.   :)

The pictures posted were to show how they were mounted and taken inside with flash.  I agree these pictures look suspect, but they really don't look the same in sunlight by the eye.  They have a reflective chrome finish which was eliminated by the flash.  :-\

Checked out several, if not all options, and this IMHO was the best for me.  I accept the look to reduce the cooking of my thigh.

Nicely, and politely said..  and by the way, I agree.
