Calling All Bagger Guys...
Alright, I am the first to admit, I have never viewed a V-Rod as a potential bagger. However, my friends/owners at the local dealership view it differently.
Below you will find the results of their construction.

I am posting the pic here, in the event the next link is removed from the dealership.

I hardly ever visit this page but, IMO, this thing is beautiful. Looks like "Son of Otis". Although I might prefer a different front wheel.
In fact, the more I look at it, the more I think this thing looks better "dressed" than bare....and I have always preferred naked Harleys over baggers, appearance-wise.
Wow, wow, wow.
-
Oh YES YES YES - I want one and I want it

A while back san jose hd,cal. was taking orders to build v-rod baggers had pro-toe type on floor they were asking as much as a cvo 32k -AK
-
I think that is all a kit that someone is selling.......can't think of who right now, but I saw it 2 years ago. Look on the net and try bagger V-Rod and you might find the co. who makes the parts. They buy all H-D stuff and than make all the brackets that fit the V-Rod to do the conversion.
Got it.......www.cyclevision.com they call it "road rod"

Cycle Visions is a private shop here in Dago. Been so long since I first saw one of these on Randy's showroom floor, I forgot all about it. Anyway, around Dago, Randy's shop is know for expensive, but quality work. His folks do it right the first time. He's been on the leading edge of a lot of stuff like this kit. First time I saw a Dragonfly fairing was at Cycle Visions. Beags used to be one his best customers
back when he was ridin his extremely modified Fatboy. Never heard him have a bad word for Randy and the crew. Can't say that as to his opinion of the stealer where he bought his Cherry Bomb. Anyway, back to the point is that IMHO if Randy (Cycle Visions) is selling it, then it's a good product.
-
I like the blue one, it doesn't overwhelm the look of the V. The link shows more pics. It looks good from all angles, including the back! The black kit makes it look like like a Road Glide. :-?
-
I will be taking the one in my area out for a short run this weekend...I will post my results...not interested in a purchase, just good friends with the right folks and they offered to let me try it out right after building it.

Jock, you're taking out the black Road Glide wannabe? The feedback will be interesting! Why don't you try to get it up to about 110 and see if anything starts flying off? I somewhat envision that ride like a scene from The Little Rascals when the parts start flying off the boxcars! The V just isn't made to be "enclosed!"

Just got a call, looks like there maybe a contract on the bike in the works...therefore the run is on hold.
-
If your gonna spend the bucks there askin for for this kit - like 12k if i remember correct, then for gods sake give it a real rear fender - that bolt on squared off thing looks like a lego job, that said, looks good otherwise, could handle very good, runs cool, just make sure you got the tourqe for loaded bagger low speed pullin and you could have a nice sport tourer.
-
I love it!!!!Afactory version would kill all the other harley wannabees like goldwings and such.Add an airbag and honda market will be dead in a year.Of course moco pricing might just be a bit too high for some than they would go with the wing. Other than that i dont see any reason to buy any other watercooled hightech tourer other than a harley.I would still be on a good old air cooled vtwin tough.Cant help it its under my skin lol.

Ok, Get ready they are coming. A bud of mine got smoked on his SERG by a ( SERGVR ? ) last Thursday west of KCMO. He was doing 110+ trying to catch it and the SERGVR was pullin away real quick. About 3 hours later he ran across it again. This time he got a better look at it. SERGVR = Screamin Eagle V-Rod motor in a Road Glide frame. He said it sounded alot like a Harley ( really good ) not a Rod, and yes he got smoked again. He said it was doing the 140 range. I got a woody.

Because of the tag relocated along with the led rear turn signals I would think not. But you will have all of the stock parts to change it back. Then they would work.

Ok, smarta$$, you could have just called me on the phone and told me that instead of making me go, "Duh!" in public!!! I kind of like the tag relocate (you know I'll have to have a vanity plate for that one) BUT HAD COMPLETELY FORGOT ABOUT IT!!! Out of curiosity, why didn't you remove the stock taillight when you put on the LED?
Go hit the books and stop making me look bad!!!

I'm not a paint & body person, but have seen lots of work done on old hot rods. Could you not use the mesh tape and fiberglass bondo and smooth it over, sand it, and paint it to match? Just wondered.
Don't see myself as a foo foo type of girl!! And strapping a small bag to passenger seat just ruins the whole look! It'd be suitable/doable for 4-day rallies, but wouldn't like to do it on a regular day-to-day basis. Will send you a PM with a pic to see if it will work for a temporary fix.

I know I promised DC I'd quit monkeying around, but I'm going bananas readin this thread. The pic of the blue bike Jock posted above with the leather bags, a Corbin seat and a windshield is a pretty good set-up for working a V-Rod into a touring bike without making the bike look like a Road Glide. Notice the luggage rack on the back. With a seat back for the passenger seat you'd have some good anchor spots for some tie down luggage as well as the saddlebags for day to day use. You could also pull off the windshield and put your stock seat on around town. Try to visualize the Corbin set-up on the orange and black SE V-Rod with the seat and bags done in an Ostich or Alligator from Alligator Bob along the lines of the post on Best CVO Pic of 2006 $$$$$$$ to be sure little sister, but done right you'd have one sweet one of kind signature ride. Maybe you could become the new Marla. God knows we've been waiting for someone to step up and fill her shoes since she left us.
-
V
You do know who Marla was I hope
-
Not a clue!
-
Marla and her dog Scooter used to ride around the country on an Electra Glide attending events and doing articles for the biker mags. Roving Reporter, photojournalist, whatever, she did what she had to do to not only survive, but live a life that made most of us jealous. She was something special and those of us fortunate enough to have known her still miss her. She was from Canada and cool as only Canadian women can be, fiesty as hell --you either loved Marla or you didn't , but everyone respected her. Mind you, when she started doing this back in the late 80's, there still weren't that many women riders and she was the only woman doing this. Actually she and Rip from Easyrider were about it period.
-
No, the homework I was doing is Operations Management for the MBA. SUCKS!!!! And to think I was considering going on to Law School! Maybe later...NOT after these two years! LOTS of time off!!
I could definitely travel the world with a camera and a pen, but not the pooch! I gave up on pets when I had 4 bottomless pits with upturned palms saying, "Mom, I need (fill the in the blank)!!!" I'll look up Marla soon...after I fill 4 new positions at work...after we knock out a few walls to build new offices to house them...after we get Ma Bell to finish the fiber installation....after....what does it matter at this point!!!! I need some coffee! Want a cup? Cream? :-?
Back to the reason for this thread before I get accused of jacking it... [smiley=oops.gif]
Those bags won't work (considering the relocated taillight/tag as DC so delicately put it!!) I need an immediate - even if temporary - solution so that I can bring my clothes back with me from MB. I'm flying in to pick it up. I'm going back through Charleston to see a pirate friend. So I have to have some clothes and can't just ship them!!! 8-)
-
Well as a temporary thing, I'd suggest some throwover bags from one of the catalogue companies.J&P whomever. I had a aset of pretty big bags I bought from H-D I used to use on one of my FXR's but I don't believe they sell them anymore. You could also buy the base plate, high sissy bar and luggage rack that fit the SEVROD and coerce DC into helping you put them on the bike. that would give you tie down points for a good size backpack
On a permament basis, you are going to need to get someone to cusom fit you a set of bags. I suggested leather because someone like Alligator Bob could make the bags to fit the bike. I also think some type of brown leather with the paint work on the SEVROD would look cool As long as you don't want to remove DC's License plate set-up you're not going to fit a set of hardbags to the bike. Not trying to be a dick, just telling you the straight story
Sounds like you got enough on your plate without running away and becoming a Gypsy Biker, but it sure makes for a sweet thought to slide off to sleep with now doesn't it.
-
I know, I know! Didn't mean to insinuate you were a [smiley=banana.gif]! I appreciate everyone's suggestions! Look at the roll-up bag on the storage help thread....Maybe?
Ewww! Throw-overs on a V! :o Ok, it's functional! But I'm a girl, for goodness sake, and LOOKS are important!! I was thinking of the hardbags, but forgot about the tag relo AND I like the tag relo! I'm thinking I'll have to get some beat up hardbags that can be modified...set the LED and sideplate in fiberglass on the back of one bag and have graphics to match the bike airbrushed on the bags. So if you know of anyone that has some hardbags that was rear-ended, point them my way! [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]
In the meantime, it looks like I'll be buying a sissy bar and luggage rack for the trip. Damn now I just have to decide on which pair of boots to carry since I can only carry one pair!!!!
-
What ever you decide on let me know. The trailer has a tool box bolted to the floor under the work bench. I just need to know if I should load it with metrics also. I have plenty of room so it won't be a problem.

I am with you there...I personally do not like the look of a V-Rod Bagger. Different strokes for different folks...It's all good.
-
V,
Two years ago I rode to Sturgis with a friend who mailed his clothes ahead. When we left he mailed his dirty clothes back home. He wore a backpack on the trip and only carried his toiletries and an extra set of clothes.
-
Funny you say that because I almost decided to do EXACTLY that!!! If I was going to keep the Sporty, I would still consider doing it. BUT since I'll only have the V, I thought I needed a more long-term solution. Rumor has it that the City PD will be replacing their 2yo bikes at the end of this year. I want to see if I can get one of their RK's to see if I might be bagger material!! I think I'll be too attached to the V to give her up so I'll most likely HAVE TO HAVE two!!!
By the way, are y'all going to Sturgis this year?? How long does it take you to get there from OBX?
-
V,
-
Very good point! I haven't been on a long bike trip except overnight to my grandparents. However, I made that VERY PAINFUL mistake on my first backpacking trip which has many similarities with the exception of there was no Post Office or FedEx drop box in the middle of the woods. That was the same backpacking trip that the weather dropped to below freezing and none of those EXTRA clothes were wool and were useless!!! So, point taken! NOW I know why everyone thinks of biker events as "grungy!" [smiley=nixweiss.gif]
-
Very good point!
-
If I was going to go that route, being a girl, I could skip the ride all together, fly, take two bags, and ride on the back of someone else's bike!!
-
And NOW speaking of baggers...I'm going to tie a canvas bag on the sissy bar of the Sportster and take videos back to the store! Why? Because I can and I've been trying to get out all day so dammit the movies are NOW excuse enough to do so!!! Wanted to earlier but couldn't figure out how to get that box of Tide to stay on the 2up!!! Wait a second....I can see it now...I'll get a custom painted industrial-quality Radio Flyer to hook to the back! OR what about one of those pull-behind kid carriers for mountain bikes??? Think I could paint it electric orange and black and make it street legal? That would be freaking hysterical. Hell, it'd ruin the look of the bike but we could put a big sign on the back that says, "Going to Wally World!!" Or "Yea, it's ugly, but look at the bike! She's bad, isn't she?? Yeah, you'd be towing this ugly-@$$ trailer too if you wanted to ride her to Walmart!!!"
-
you gotta go the 'trailer' route if you want to go 'styling'.......ala Hubbard !
