I used a comparable product from a company called Desert Dawgs on a couple of different Road Kings for a lot of miles.  Loved the flexibility and the super quick on and off.  Made a difference in cool weather and rain.  Not nearly as much difference as the uppers on lowers on the Glide.  But a real difference nonetheless.

Soft Lowers

Never thought I'd start a message with that title; but I digress.

Looking for opinions/comments on Harley's soft lowers for FLT models.  I am thinking of pulling my stock SERG fairing lowers off and using the soft lowers on cold days.  I’ve looked into the Eglide Goodies’ Ultra and Hoppe Industries’ AirMax vents and just don’t know about cutting into my bike.

Thanks,

Myk

I used the H-D canvas soft lowers on the '02 EG Classic I used to own before the SEEG.  Like 2lane says about the Desert Dawgs, it was GREAT to be able to pull them on and off so quickly and then roll them up and put them in a saddlebag for next time.  The protection is really, really good, especially from the cold, but your feet will still get wet like mine did in the rain (no where near as bad as not having lowers at all, just won't stay as dry as with the hard lowers).  Sounds like maybe colder temps is all you're concerned about and for that I thought they were excellent.

I agree.  Took hard lowers off and only use soft ones myself.  Easy on, easy off [smiley=beerchug.gif]

Thanks for the replies gentlemen,

I purchased a set of H-D FLT soft lowers last week.   My morning rides into work (50mi) at 50° and my evening rides home at 100° were both terrific.  I look forward to my Colorado winter rides with my new soft lowers.  So far, I recommend this purchase to anyone as well. Ask me again in January :)

Thanks again,

Not that I know of Otis.

I bought a set of HD's and modified them slightly.  If you get the ones with the buckles and not the snaps you can make them work with some minor cutting.  They work fine for my RG.

What's different for the Road Glide?  Shape of the crash bar somehow?

They have the support that holds the fairing at the top of the crash bar.

I didn't even think about that.  Thanks Otis.  Someday I just need to get more familiar with Road Glides.

I purchased H-D's Protective Soft Lowers, part # 58502-80B, the one with the snaps, (found on page 431 of the 2006 parts magazine). I have a 2000 SERG, and did not need to make any changes. It does not fit perfect per say, the cross bar on the down tubes kind of gets in the way, but I am able to snap all the snaps and so far it stays in place and works fine.  I will give an update after Sturgis on how it did for long trips on cold nights in the Black Hills – Hey! It’s snowed on me before up around Deadwood in August.  H-D Note: ‘Should not be used when air temperature is above 50 degrees.’

Take care,

They have the support that holds the fairing at the top of the crash bar that interferes  with the snap lowers I tried before, Thanks DJW I will try the buckles.

Guys & Gals,

Their is a guy on Ebay who sells Soft Lowers Specific to the Road Glide. Item #4565221316, the Buy It Now Price is US $64.99.

They have slots cut out for the Fairing Support Brackets and for Highway Pegs. I do not have a pair as I run the Hard Lower Fairings. Just thought I'd pass it on to the people who are looking.

The one thing to keep in mind, that soft style lowers DO NOT devert air at the engine for cooling. This is why the soft style lowers should not be used above 50 degrees.
