Whats wrong with the inner/outer fairing fit?
« on: July 18, 2010, 06:33:27 PM »

I removed my windshield to install a new Windvest and was surprised to see this large gap between the inner and outer fairing on the top. I am not sure if this gap is normal or not, I have never had the winshield off until today. I have had the fairing off prior but kept the windshield on so I never had a chance to see this before but I'm pretty sure its not right. I have had the lower fairing brackets off before but have never moved the inner fairing mounts. Is this normal? Is there a way to adjust? I removed the headlight assm just to be sure I had it on the hooks. All seems correct except for this gap. Finally got tired of screwing around with it and thought I'd ask those that have been there and done that.

r u sure its latched on to the hooks ?   best way to know is to take off the headlight bezel and the lights to make sure... the gap looks like way too much..

Yes, Its latched on the hooks, After about an hr of dicken' with it I removed the headlights so I could have a closer look.

Without the windshield off I would have never know, that new SE gasket seems to make everything look OK. Hoping someone has experience in this category.

I'd take it to the dealer before the warranty is up. Mine doesn't have a gap like that. Has it been off?

Yes, I have had it off a couple times, but I never took the windshield off so I could not see if there was a gap or not. I was shocked today when I removed the winshield I thought maybe I did not get it hooked on the bracket. I can push it together with my hands but it just moves back. It comes together pretty good until I put I put the two screws in by the glove box. Once these screws snug up it pulls the two fairings apart uptop.

My silver one doesn't fit like that :huepfenjump3:-maybe its just for the oranges :2vrolijk_21:  If it wasn't on the hooks I don't think you could get the screws in.

Never seen or heard of this on any of the 09s.  I say take it in asap and make dealer repair.

Welp; After screwing around with it for 6 hrs tonight I have decided to take your advice (since nobody can tell me how to adjust it to fricken fit) and call the stealer and get his humble opinion of this ill fitting fairing. Surly Harley could do a better job than this to get the fairing to seal out water. There should be a tight fitting seam on these fairings and a decent rubber molding that seals these things up tighter than a ducks poop chute.

Looks like it is hitting the radio carrage and holding it out, look at the back of the inner fairing and see if it has been rubbing there.  Doc

Doc; The inner fairing is not touching the radio bracket (rails). If I apply pressure to it I can push it down to the brackets and the gap is greatly reduced. I showed the dealer and we looked at another SERG (silver) and it too could be pushed down onto the radio brackets.

to all that still think it is not hooked on the two hooks within the headlight opening your wrong. It is securely hooked. Soon I will play with it some more and come up with a fix.
