FAIRING NOISE
« on: April 03, 2006, 01:02:16 PM »

I have a full lenth windshield on my glide..I dont know if it is the extra tall windshield or what but if I hit any bumps in the road the fairing is making noise like it is loose.....I rode my pals glide and he has a low windshield and I did not hear half the noise that comes out of my fairing...anyone else hearing any knocking around in their fairings??..I remounted the windshield countless times and thinking of taking the windshield off to see if the noise goes away....at every bumb I get a knock...

I had maybe 3 different windshields on my old SERG and once in a while had to take the faring apart and clear out a few of those silly rubber windshield mounting grommets. During the install process they had a pattern of falling into the faring, and one time a bolt came loose from the radion and was rattling around inside. But this was not a regular nuisance like you're describing. Have you taken the fairing apart yet to take a peek ?

yes, found the radio bracket rubbing into the outer fairing(grinded the bracket down) other then that seems ok....will remove windshield again and see if noise goes away...if not will remove outer fairing again

Did you find anything yet? I couldn't see it being the windshield simply because it's bolted on and if it were loose you would be able to move it by hand. I'm guessing the taller windshield is shielding the wind noise allowing you to hear your noise. Is it a rattle like something is rolling around or like the entire fairing is loose? The next time you have the fairing off check the bolts that hold the inner fairing to the frame mounting brackets. Just thinking out loud.

Its the extra tall windshield...took the windshield off and the noise was gone for the most part...windshield is tite...it is just soo tall I guess with the flex and all it just makes noise..i will have to live with it or try a lower windshield....I had every lenth windshield on her ...I get the least windnoise with the extra tall one.....Its tough too see out of it in the rain but for touring is the one for me....ride-on

Don't know how tall you are, but the Clearview shield is much thicker and less flex than the stock windshield. Plus with the Eur-lip you can go a bit shorter so as to look over the top and the wind jst goes up and over ya. I wouldn't go back to a stock shield, ever.

Hey, Headpan. Loosen up the 4  nuts on the bottom of the fairing, then push down on the front over the headlight as you re-tighten the nuts. Good luck.
